METROSTARS TO MISS 2002 PLAYOFFS The Chicago Fire defeated the Columbus Crew Sunday afternoon, 2-1, to take the remaining berth for the upcoming 2002 MLS Cup playoffs. The players will be off until October 7. They will then regroup for off-season training, with the possibility of playing an exhibition in late October. Further details on the possible exhibition are not available at this time. I seem to remember a exhibition match being talked about early this year? Anyone remember?
Nick had mentioned playing El Salvador or Honduras so that Balboa could play in a couple games (I kid you not).
I remember that quote. I've heard of getting exhibitions to get a TEAM in playing shape but not for the benefit of getting a specific PLAYER in shape.
Lets get on w/ the rebuilding! I don't want so see this group of MetroStars take the field ever again. What's the purpose in taking part in a exhibition match anyway? The Metros need to "Clean House" starting w/OZ. We need to seriously look at the effectiveness of a central defense consisting of Petke and Jolley. We need a quality defensive midfielder( ex. Chris Armas(local boy)). And either Mathis or Diallo must go, I like Faria's work ethic and he deosn't cost much. Mathis must regain the work ethic he had in 2000, he must stop seeing himslef as a goal scroing primmadonna.
I'm done with Metro this year. I'm holding my breath for next season, hoping for the best (coach, players, ticket package, kit buy, the whole kaboodle).
Metros exhibition I believe the reason why the Metros have to play the exhibition is to finish their quota of games played at the Swamp. Please no more DC United-Metrostars games this year. We shouldn't have to be tortured to watch those two play each other again!
