The next captain of AC Milan should be Gattuso. Forget the whole seniority thing and give this man the armband when Maldini retires.

    That is all

I think that has already been stated numerous times by the Milan management. When Maldini retires, it's Rino's armband.

But right now whenever Maldini is out it goes to Ambrosini.

ya I don't get why it's Ambrosini over Gattuso?? I know Gattuso has worn the armband a couple times this season already

Italian captaincy traditionally goes by seniority. So whoever has been at the club the longest gets the armband if the captain can't play.

So since Ambrosini has been with us since '96 and Gattuso joined in '99, Ambro gets it.

I think Gattuso is more vocal and just has CAPTAIN written
all over his play and attitude.
Nesta is a lot like Maldini...quiet, lead by example.

We could have a situation in a couple years(when Cannavaro retires from the azzurri) that Nesta will be captain of Italy and Gattuso will be captain of Milan.

I know he's only 2 years younger than Rino, but I see Pirlo getting the band somewhere down the line.

Could be an Ambrosini sit. where he's the vice captain and get's it when Rino is sitting or goes off, but I think he's play and leadership on the pitch translates well

Why not Kaka? He was a captain for Brazils U21 and has unbelievable mental serenity for such a young player.

You know that's not the way Milan works. But it would be a sweet day if Kaka' eventually wore the armband because that means he has stayed with us for quite awhile.

i dont think kaka should be captain..bein captain is a lot of responsiblites..not just on the field n not just a c on ur armband..its a lot of side work n press shit...i believe gattuso would speak well for the team, but he gets so emotional sumtimes that it would be hard for him to be captain..general/field soldier yes..but captain..? ambro is a good captain but if he loses spot to a new player or relegated to bench im not sure if he'll be captain...i dont see that gattuso will be captain when ambro is still at team..unless ambro gives up captaincy...we'll see...maldini has been it since ican remember

    I agree with you.
A captain must have a strong spirit that can lead the team to success. The one should be calm when some turbulence or unfairness arise.Rino is not good enough to control him temper. But I think he is turning better.

Kaka is a definite fan favourite and before somewhere down the line it was said by Galliani or Berlusconi that Kaka will be the next Milan captain. He deserves to be the Milan captain or maybe even Nesta or Gattuso.

kaka doesn't deserve to be captain
people here are confusing being the best player and being the captain

gattuso def has to be the next captain (or perhaps Nesta) but there is know way Kaka is even in the discussion

kaka' is not vocal enough to be considered captain atm, especially with someone like gattuso on the team.

I completely agree. Henry was made captain for Arsenal and I thought it was the WRONG move. Gilberto was then given the armband and did an outstanding job and surprisely bagged plenty of goals.
I tend to think Def MF or backs tend to make the best captains. They are aggressive by nature and selfless instead of thinking SCORE all the time.
I say Nesta or Gattuso should be next...I tend to think Gattuso because he is more vocal, but Nesta is phenomenal too.

i think ambrosini has earned the armband with his performances since maldini has been hurt.

i can see why gattuso would be a great candidate, but i don't think we need someone, who is prone to get a lot of cards, have the captain's armband on a regular basis.

i would love to see nesta have it on his arm

Usually, who appoints the captain? If it's the coach, he wouldn't want someone who slaps him. :)

It is weird having this discussion b/c Maldini has been playing for Milan longer than i have been alive and has been captain ever since i can remember. He will always be "Il Capitano"

Gattuso would be a great captain. I know everyone has already said it but he is a vocal leader, whenever there is an altercation or any type of issue on the field you can always count on Rino to be one of the first players to get involved for his team

    Captain Hierarchy
    1. Paolo Maldini
    2. Alessandro Costacurta
    3. Massimo Ambrosini
    4. Gennaro Gattuso
    5. Kakhaber Kaladze
    6. Andrea Pirlo
Does this mean that Ambrosini will be the next captain after Maldini and Costacurta retire, or is it just the current leadership group?
