I cant decide what is the best place to post this, but Ill put it here, for now, and Goru or Shuvy can decide whether it should be in a separate thread or a sticky, or something. Goru and I had the idea of writing a book about the J.League, to mark the 20th anniversary of the J.League. It is still at the "idea" stage, and we havent done much on it for several months. However, since I had some time over the New Year's holiday I sat down and completed a few rough ideas that I had put together for the chapter on the Urawa Reds. I posted it up on the RSN, so that I can get some feedback to see if people like the idea, or if they would be interested in reading such a book. http://www.the-rising-sun-news.com/news/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2567 Any positive feedback would be greatly appreciated, because its going to take a lot of encouragement and support to expand this into a complete book form. Hope you will enjoy reading it . . .
Re: The Urawa Reds Thread Every team has its own narrative, and I like how you've brought that out in this chapter. Some minor changes regarding writing style is probably all that's needed before publishing.
Re: The Urawa Reds Thread It looks good, interesting read. Of course my photos are at your disposal if you want to use anything.
Re: The Urawa Reds Thread Yeah... I know my writing for the RSN is a bit "overblown" for a book (and old RSN articles form the basis for a lot of the book). But after Goru does one edit, and a professional editor does a second, it should be a bit less "flowery" in final form.
Wish I could contribute more, but for the time being I have pics from: Omiya v Tokyo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/29852322@N02/sets/72157621622655003/ and Yokohama v Shimizu Spulse: http://www.flickr.com/photos/29852322@N02/sets/72157623772996946/
Thanks Some of the photos inside Yokohama Stadium look like they could be useful. Ill contact you by PM if I need them. Actually I am planning to write a section on Yokohama pretty soon. Verdy and Marinos are two teams that had important roles in the first few seasons of the league.
I didn't realise how far behind I am at updating my flickr. I still have a couple of Gainare Tottori matches and at least half a dozen Sanfrecce I haven't done. Anyway fwiw I grouped mine together into a collection. There's a steep learning curve in evidence, but some of my favourites are this fan shot, this goal shot and this group shot.
I wrote a long chapter about 1993, but needs a lot of editing... One of these days... (weeks... months...) But I love the idea - I have been bugging Matsu with it for a while!
A question on the theme of a book about the J. League. I'm guessing this book will be including pictures of certain players, games, stadiums etc, and I'm wondering about copyright. I also have a project due for completion this year including pictures of stadiums aplenty (ie, a guide to football stadiums in Japan) and the thought recently occurred that the owners of these stadiums (not the J. League, as no images of games or players are included) would have issues with it featuring in a guidebook. I'm guessing this is something you would have thought about already, so maybe you know something about the copyright law in Japan in this instance. Would be a shame if my project is thwarted, but hey ho, I don't want call from Japanese cities asking for royalties.
Nobody will bother you for stadiums, as far as those aren't pictures with a game ongoing in them. In general, J.League barks a lot about copyright, but look how liberal they are on YouTube...
That's something of a relief. It started off as a pet project but since quite a bit of effort has gone in to it, I've decided to make the book worthy of self publishing. The focus is very much on the stadia, not the pitch. If I can get to the last few stadiums I'm missing this year (with a view to which will be in J1 next season), then it should be ready for 2012. I may be asking for feedback on first drafts at some stage. よろしくお願いします。
