Flo has PTSD from those Danilo and Odriozola signings still lol. Circa. €60m for those two deadbeats and we never went back for another. I think Vinicius Tobias is our fist RB signing since those two? Third times a charm maybe.
I don’t think we have actually completed Tobias’s signing. Saw quotes last week from Shaktar that we are waiting until the end of the season to make our decision.
Not sure why we didn't get Cancelo on loan [the deal to Bayern includes an optional buy clause]. The guy plays LB/RB, two positions that have become progressively problematic for us, he can also play as a winger and we don't have a RW. The only "logical" reason I can think of is that City/Pep would never do business with us not even in a form of a loan. Otherwise, this was a boneheaded miss by Flo and co. "We don't conduct business in January", that's some John Wick sh!t..
I'm by no means a knee jerk reaction kind of guy who demands transfers transfers transfers. But the club clearly have some sort of firm stance against recruiting players in January. It's like Haaland could be offered on a loan til the end of the season and we won't entertain it. When was last January signing? Lucas Silva?
Looks like Flo thinks decent role players are not worth the investment and seems to be allergic to winning back to back league titles. The problem is we can't get the megacracks either like the team used to. The strategy seems to try and get the "Modrics" and "Kroos' types. World class but undervalued which is pretty hard to do consistently and still be able to fill all the team's holes.
There's a very simple explanation. They weren't even aware that such a deal was possible because they didn't bother navigating the winter market for a full-back in the first place or inquire about Cancelo's situation after his bust up with Pep. You see, at Real Madrid they arrogantly believe that the winter market is beneath them. To them, January doesn't even exist. We currently have 0 fit full-backs and they'd rather waste one of the brightest midfield talents playing as a makeshift LB than bring back Fran Garcia 6 months earlier.
The last immediate impact January signing must be Diego Lopez in 2013. But the goalkeeper position was different. We literally could not play Nacho or Isco there. He was an absolutely urgent signing. So Higuain must be the last true immediate impact signing.
🚨| Juni Calafat was a big supporter of Pedro Porro but Real Madrid did not want any January signings. @diarioas— Madrid Xtra (@MadridXtra) January 30, 2023
AS is trash. I don't even bother reading when these RM accounts post their random articles daily. Juni's bet was Vinicius Tobias who is doing well at Castilla. But Carlo would rather play Odri, Hazard etc over anyone from Castilla. Porro is mediocre defensively and not elite going forward. Most likely to be another Danilo, Odri, Reguilon etc. Luis Enrique has faults, but he's not that dumb to completely ignore Porro if he was anywhere near top class.

Another player not good enough to play for Madrid despite being miles better from everybody in the squad in his position AND being good enough for pretty much every other club. But I can already hear the argument "the RB market is sooo barren these days" lol. I thought in Calafat we trust? But suddenly Luis Enrique is a great judge of talent whatever suits the argument it seems, no matter how much jumping through hoops it involves...
Dusan would be a good option on loan until end of the season but we’re absolute amateurs at times when making signings to improve the squad. It’s like we’re scared.
🚩Despite Mendy's two-month injury, Madrid have ruled out bringing in Fran Garcia in the winter transfer window. The agreement with Rayo Vallecano is to bring back the defender in the summer. ⚡️w/@MarioCortegana for @TheAthleticFC https://t.co/3WiK9s4hMr— Guillermo Rai (@GuillermoRai_) January 31, 2023 Florentino wtf
This is conjecture at this point because in reality the club didn't explore any options for January despite having 0 fullbacks fit. What if RM was an option for Cancelo and the fullback preferred to play for us? I thought the club liked renegades that forced transfers to Madrid. I'm sure the Catalans aren't fond of Bayern either, a side that perpetually bullies their Barcelona and has a cumulative score of 27-2 against them in ~8 games. Vinicius Tobias didn't get any minutes when our entire fullback line was banged up so I don't anticipate him getting a decent opportunity with Carvajal being "fit" this week. The club is set to make a decision on Tobias at the end of the season, so the prospect of him being our next RB is up in the air. But I'm sure Carlo is "monitoring" very closely. Of course no fullback is good enough for RM, not Hakimi, Theo Hernandez, Davies, Porro, et al. they are all suspect defensively and/or mediocre offensively. Any name that is presented will be met with a string of condemnations so long as it serves the club's official stance. We heard the same narrative when looking for a backup striker in the summer. That didn't work out too well.
I forgot about him. I was talking immediate impact January signing. Both Gago and Marcelo did not immediately make an impact in the first season. So I was only counting Higuain who scored some important goals that half of the season.
