Undecided. I certainly don't think we should "rush" - in fact, I wouldn't mind tanking the rest of the year (by playing young players) to improve our draft picks. We should take as long as we need to find a new head man, and if that gives Warzycha the rest of the season, so be it. That said, I *do* think he deserves consideration independent of Andrulis. It'll be hard to wash the stink off, but I think he should get a fair shot at being considered for the full-time job.
How much of this article is actually based on facts and not speculation or ideas this Walsh guy came up with? No one said that. Jesus tapdancing Christ..
Maybe that's because the One Crew Supporter isn't doing it right. Point Break is my favorite movie by the way. Give me half a quote and I'll finish it. I've asked before but what is goal.com? Is it a collection of reporters from any certain team?
You don't know what goal.com is? Jesus frickin' Christ man! It's fantabulous! It's huge! It's only the biggest site for uh...wait. Let me go and find out.
I agree about the stink part, but he can probably overcome. Warzycha probably bleeds yellow and black more than any other coaching candidate out there, and that should count for something.
Agreed. Bobby has earned the benefit of the doubt. The fact that he remained loyal to Greg is a character plus, not a minus. No one ever saw a raised eyebrow, a rolled eye of a subtle smirk from him. I said I wanted a coach who would kick some asses and put some bite back in this side, and one who would be able to install something approaching a professional offensive effort. We'll know soon enough if he can do that. When Fitz was let go, Greg stepped in and just basically let them play. That won't really work this time. A lot of times a team will respond to a new guy just because he's...well...not the old guy. I think it will take more with this bunch. If he can get them to play some soccer, I'm fine with that. Show me Buddle making decoy and off-the-ball runs. Show me midfield posession passing. Show me a buildup from the back. SHow me second and third shots. SHow me an opponent's attack being broken up in the middle third, not on the 18. Show me the extra pass in the box. Show me Kyle Martino threading the needle. Show me Chad Marshall owning the left side. Show me Danny Szetela getting quality minutes and closing down attacks. I could go on and on - we all could - but you get the point: Show me some soccer. I don't give a good goddam about the score. Win, lose, I don't care. SHow me some soccer out of this bunch and I'll be in the front row of Bobbys Bandwagon.
You had me until here. I need to see good soccer and results. This team has too much talent to be in the position they're in. Everyone has said how nice a guy Andrulis is and I think that was one of his weaknesses. He never bit into anyone. Hopefully Warzycha will take some players out to the whipping post.(Buddle,Martino)
I agree with this. Playing sexy soccer doesn't mean throwing defense out the window but it does mean playing with little margin for error. It's a test of skill starting at the back, and since the Crew players aren't used to it, you can expect some frustration at first. But its the way of the future. The good MLS teams are showing that they can break down bunkered defenses, and everyone will have to adapt. I'm a little suprised at the support for Warzycha. While its a given that if he does well he will be hired because that's the cheapest and easiest thing to do, I think its important to hire someone with proven familiarity with creating cutting edge soccer. I don't want Sigi or even Gansler here because they coach to minimize the number of scoring chances, a cynical style of play. I suppose the only example I can come up with that is within the realm of the acheivable is to hope Paul Mariner could be coaxed from NE.
I must say i agree with Bill that Bob sticking with the Crew through this whole Greg saga. It is a testament to his character and love of the Black and Gold. While i do not know his real reason for sticking through this horrible time, for someone to stick around as long as he has shows his great dedication to this club. Who knows, maybe he stuck around because he knew it was only time before Greg was axed and he was made interim head coach. If that's the case, i applaud his sly tactics. Either way, I believe that every shittty loss we had burned in his heart as much as ours. I know he has a lot of passion for the team and that is one thing i never saw from Greg and that alone will be improvement enough to make our team at least watchable again.
i repped Archer for his post last page, and it's worth it. Look, I have never criticized Greg personally. I know he is a very, very nice guy, and has overall acted with class while being a coach for the Crew. I sincerely appreciate his effort into worthwhile causes outside of soccer. I have never attacked him outside the realm of his tactical decisions and team preparedness and execution. I wish him the best in his future, but I am glad he is not the Crew coach anymore. That being said, I truly believe a ball-buster is what is needed with this squad. I have always heard that a lot of the team does the "bare minimum" at practice and in their preparedness. I want someone who is a "take no **********" coach, someone who will sit you if you don't put forth the right effort, someone who sees a slacker for exactly that. this IS a talented team. good enough to win the MLS Cup? probably not. but certainly a team that can play with much more heart that what it is now. remember a few years ago when Buddle had a 2-3 goal game vs. KC even though he had his jersey ripped off his back (literally) from the close marking? does anyone here honestly believe that that effort is readily available on this club (not calling Edson out personally, just making the ripped jersey as a point) right now? a hard-ass coach just might be the cup of tea we need right now. sorry for the long post, just my $0.02. it's REAL f*vking hot in Arizona right now BTW. Caio all....
Well, I'm just gonna say this because it's what I;m thinking. Warzycha should have been told that he would not be considered for the full time job. That he might be hired represents the downside of this time of jubilee. It has all the potential for a repeat of the Andrulis story: a brief run of success followed by years of regret. Good management would attend to this problem now and eliminate making long term mistakes off of short term performance. I want Warzycha to succeed mightily, and then go. If the Crew are in fact committed to a "national and international search" and are competent at it, they'll find someone. Hoping that a little on field success means they have stumbled onto something is chickenshLt management. Sorry if this is rain on a parade. It's a lot easier for a long-distance and video fan like me to be skeptical than for locals, I know. But I just don't think the possibility of Warzycha should be welcomed. Deja Vu, and all.
I have to say that I, too, am a bit surprised there's so much of what sounds like long-term support for Bob. I recall seeing a lot of posts about needing to sweep the whole organization out the door, if we hire from within we're just continuing the same old pattern of mediocrity, etc. To be considered for the permanent job I think he needs to get this team clicking -- not necessarily winning enough to get into and deep in the playoffs, but playing passionately, incisively, and basically looking like they are moving forward, and strongly so (and I don't mean forward as in attacking, but in the sense of the club developing into one that really can challenge for the title). We would have to make a heck of a lot of progress in that direction to convince me that he's the man on a permanent basis. Give him a chance, yes. But FFS, let's be looking hard at anybody else we think might help us.
