59272 Twente women got a real trashing. From the match report I got the impression goalie Clark was responsible for about 5 goals
BBC World Service · Ellen Popeyus always had a passion for football. But growing up in the Netherlands in the 1960s, it was still pretty unusual for girls. "I played football from five or six years old, with the boys, on the sidewalk," says Ellen. "Every free minute I played. The boys I played with were OK with that... but it wasn't normal at the time." In November 1973, the Netherlands women’s football team lined up for their country’s first official international, against England. 59945 FC Twente beats Feyenoord and moves up one spot In the Women's Eredivisie, PSV suffered its first defeat on Saturday. The team from Eindhoven went down 3-2 at FC Utrecht, which is now only one point behind PSV third. FC Utrecht's winning goal came from the head of Maxime Snellenberg. Ajax, like PSV, has nineteen points, but will be in action against Telstar on Sunday. Furthermore, there were two more right-side of the table meetings on the program on Saturday. Excelsior - Fortuna Sittard and PEC Zwolle - ADO Den Haag both ended in 1-1. The reigning champion FC Twente has risen one place in the rankings after the victory over Feyenoord. In a match in which headers played the leading role – four of the five goals were scored with the head – Twente came out on top with a 3-2 victory. Twente is now fourth in the women's Eredivisie and is equal in points with Feyenoord, which is fifth.
FC Twente has officially been eliminated from the Champions League. It lost 2-3 to Real Madrid. Later in the evening, Chelsea was too strong for Celtic with 3-0. As a result, the chance of wintering is officially gone. At Chelsea, former FC Twente player Wieke Kaptein was good for the second goal. After more than a quarter of the game, she headed in a turning cross from Guro Reiten.
60260 Orange Lionesses need experienced players for easy win over China https://sportnieuws.nl/voetbal/nieu...makkelijke-zege-op-china-2024112921413375757/ The Orange Lionesses had a difficult evening against China, until the experienced forces came into the team. In the end, the three points remained in the Netherlands. After the arrival of the key players, Andries Jonker's team had no problem with the opponent. It ended in 4-1. On a very cold evening at Het Kasteel, the Netherlands started the game quite changed. They were mainly talented girls, who were given one more chance by Jonker to put themselves in the spotlight towards the European Championships. Chimera Ripa, Nina Nijstad, Ilse van der Zanden and Lotte Keukelaar, among others, were allowed to show themselves. Mediocre first half The first half was nothing to write home about. The Orange Lionesses did create a few small chances, but it was China that surprisingly took the lead. The first chance was an immediate hit. A deep ball was completely misjudged by FC Utrecht player Van der Zanden, after which Kun Jin shot the ball into the Dutch goal via the post: 0-1. Comeback At halftime, coach Jonker decided not to intervene and that trust was rewarded after more than fifteen minutes in the second half. An excellent through ball from Romée Leuchter landed at the feet of Ripa, who put the ball excellently in front of the goal. Wieke Kaptein was free and shot the ball hard into the roof of the goal: 1-1. A few minutes later, no less than five regular players (Jill Roord, Lineth Beerensteyn, Danielle van de Donk, Esmee Brugts and Lynn Wilms) of the Orange Lionesses were brought into the team to completely turn the deficit around. Within one minute, the team had already hit the mark. The ball landed at the feet of substitute Roord, who shot the ball brilliantly into the long corner: 2-1. Completely different Orange Lionesses With the new players in the team, completely different football was played. The chances were strung together and the Orange Lionesses were razor sharp. In the 81st and 84th, two beautiful goals were scored. The 3-1 was made by Lineth Beerensteyn. The Wolfsburg player was brilliantly served by Wieke Kaptein and sent the ball hard into the goal of the Chinese. The goal of the evening was scored by Brugts. The FC Barcelona player rewarded the crowd, who showed that they are big fans of Brugts, with a brilliant goal. A cross from Kaptein could still be headed away, but the ball fell to the left winger. Brugts didn't hesitate for a moment and shot the ball into the top corner with a dropkick: 4-1.
Good dress rehearsal for duel against USA Especially the last phase against China was an excellent dress rehearsal for Tuesday evening's friendly game against the USA. The last five editions against the American women were not won, so the Netherlands will want to revenge themselves. Especially for the lost World Cup final in 2019 and the elimination in the quarter-finals at the Olympic Games two years later.
60582 Orange Lionesses awaits loaded clash with USA: 'Prestige duel of the highest order' National coach Andries Jonker has no trouble motivating the football players of the Dutch national team for a final time in 2024 for Tuesday's friendly game against the United States. "It's a prestige duel of the highest order," said the coach a day before the match in The Hague. © ANP/HH National coach Andries Jonker looks on during a training session of the Orange Lionesses. The American team won the Olympic title for the fifth time last summer and is the current number 1 in the world rankings. "I don't understand much about the FIFA ranking, because in my eyes Spain plays the best football in the world, but it is clear that America is very good," Jonker said during an online press conference. "It's a top country and this is a top poster." "It is also a loaded match because of the past," Jonker referred, among other things, to the World Cup final lost by the Dutch against the United States in 2019. It had not escaped the attention of the national coach that the duel is also alive in the rest of the Netherlands. "The outside world also estimates this duel slightly differently than other matches. The stadium is already almost sold out and there is more attention from the media. This is also a nice poster for people who normally don't follow women's football." Orange Lionesses in the Nations League and at the European Championship The Dutch will play their first matches in the Nations League in February, while the European Championship in Switzerland is scheduled for the summer. "The Nations League is of course also important, but we are working towards the European Championship. In that respect, this is a match of great importance. It's a wonderful test to see where we are now," said Jonker, who has a fit selection at his disposal. "And everyone really wants to participate." The 33-year-old midfielder Daniëlle van de Donk is also looking forward to the duel. "A very nice match and a big challenge. These are the matches in which you want to show yourself. You always want to win, but America is a bit sensitive for us," the 161-time international also knew.
60719 Sofar the Orange Lionesses have the USA in a strangle hold. Only thing that keeps the USA on their feet is the Orange Lionesses not scoring their chances:
Dutch played a brilliant first half and should have been leading by at least 2-0, if not more. The Netherlands bossed the midfield, had a bunch of shots. That it ended 1-1 was unlucky and a bad omen. I didn't even want to watch the 2nd half after that. The team didn't finish some good chances in the first half, but then Naeher made a couple of good saves for them, and then the Dutch gave them a goal to end the half, which had to be deflating. Leuchter was excellent in the first half--the whole team was. It was a technical, ball-moving masterclass, but you gotta put balls in the net. DVD with a nice header off a free kick--but it went wide. Oh, my. I think there was a bit of over-passing in the first half: DVD had a good shooting chance but centered the ball to Roord, who also then had a chance but she apparently didn't want to shoot with her left foot, tried to bring it over to her right--and by then it was too late, the defenders were on her. But Roord did take 2 nice quick shots off of rebounds in the first half, but they were saved. My optimistic take is that this team is going to be formidable going forward, as there is a nice mix of veteran and young talent. Kaptein, Buurman, Leuchter, Brugts, Casparij, others---that's a nice group of players. And if Miedema, Pelova and Djikstra are healthy by the spring and training well, Jonker will have some tough decisions to make about who starts. I would like to see Brugts get a bit more assertive; she can be too quiet for long stretches. She is a player who can shoot the ball, and she perhaps needs to be a bit more aggressive about getting her shots. If Miedema, Pelova and Djikstra were all fit, if everybody was fit, who would be our starting 11?
60758 Andries Jonker enjoyed the Orange Lionesses. The coach saw his team whirl against the United States and was lyrical. Yet it went wrong again against the football superpower. 'It's a pity that it's not a jury sport', Jonker began his analysis at ESPN. The coach then began a great hymn of praise. 'We really played a formidable first half. One thing is missing: scoring. America was over our knees, only we helped them ourselves by working the balls into our own goal.' Was it the best match under his leadership? 'This is one of the very best matches the Netherlands has ever played. This was unprecedentedly good. I've seen everything I want to see.' Jonker expertly ticked off his wish list. 'We put high pressure, played aggressively, put up a fight, won duels, had a high ball speed, individual class, created chances and had good set pieces. Everything was there. I look back on it with satisfaction, but in football it's all about scoring.' And the Dutch did not do that. At least, one goal turned out to be too little. 'Then we can be satisfied, but afterwards it's still not good...'
The Dutch football players have suffered a clumsy defeat in The Hague against the United States. Despite a great field superiority, the team of national coach Jonker went down 2-1. Before halftime, it seemed like prize shooting (actually looked more like pot shots). Standout Leuchter time and time again played a teammate free, but Van de Donk and Roord missed chance after chance. Top talent Buurman did a nice header, but did the same in his own goal just before halftime. After the break, the teams were more evenly matched. Again, Van de Donk missed a great chance and on the other side, Williams slid in the 1-2. Moments earlier, Ajax player Yohannes had made her debut with the US.
Notably doesn't score/assist in major tournaments at a rate that you'd expect from an elite CAM. Fantastic leader and work ethic though.
Forgot about Dijkstra; she would start alongside Janssen. Casparij and Brugts as the fullbacks (not optimal in Brugts' case but who else?). Damaris, Groenen, and Kaptein in midfield for me. I've felt like Leuchter hasn't been great recently, but if she can make today's performance her consistent level, I would start her and Pelova on the wings. Miedema or Roord up top. Maybe Roord at CAM, but Kaptein's been quite impressive for the Dutch. Thought that Van de Donk header was a very presentable chance, and her 2nd half miss and Williams' goal were practically the same chance. Her chance at the very end of the match wasn't straightforward, but it was quite similar to the great goal she scored vs Denmark. Couldn't find anywhere near the same type of finish though. I don't want to be too critical of Buurman because she scored a great header and is a newbie. However, how does one score an own goal like that? It wasn't even an aerial duel, and the US player shouldn't have really impeded her line of sight. Buurman just took her eye off the ball for whatever reason. Unfortunate end to a great half.
Just saw the Van de Donk to Roord chance. That was actually a great setup from Van de Donk. Poor touch from Roord; she would have shot with her left if she had controlled the ball ahead of her instead of under her foot. Edit: These final touches?! How did Groenen to Beerensteyn not lead to a decent shot on goal? (The Dutch absolutely sliced the US open on this sequence.)
54' - Davidson on Leuchter after the shross. That's rarely called a PK, but should that type of play be regularly called as a PK? Edit: And Buurman's clearance wasn't good on Williams' goal either. Tough match after a great start.
61212 PSV ladies inflicts Ajax first loss, big wins ADO and Utrecht The cracker in round nine of the Women's Eredivisie between Ajax and PSV was won by the visitors: 0-2. The team from Eindhoven made the difference in the Johan Cruijff Arena by two goals from Renate Jansen before halftime. Both Ajax and PSV now have 22 points after nine matches. For the team from Amsterdam, it is the first defeat of this season. FC Utrecht can get to 21 points if it settles with Fortuna Sittard on Sunday. A great moment at Feyenoord - Telstar. Kirsten van de Westeringh made her comeback after an extremely long absence due to a knee injury with the team from Rotterdam, which won 8-1. Kirsten van de Westeringh makes her return to Feyenoord after 447(!) days and gives an assist on first touch of the ball — ESPN NL (@ESPNnl) December 7, 2024 ADO Den Haag and FC Utrecht won convincingly in the Women's Eredivisie on Sunday afternoon. ADO won 4-0 at home against Excelsior through goals from Manon van Raay, Floortje Bol, Iris Remmers and Louise van Oosten. Utrecht beat Fortuna Sittard with the same numbers thanks to two goals from Elisha Kruize, Ilse van der Zanden and Gera op den Kelder. Utrecht is now third, ADO eighth.
Janssen excels at Manchester United with goal and two assists Dominique Janssen has played a leading role in Manchester United's 4-0 win over Liverpool. The Dutch international gave two assists as a midfielder and scored a goal. Jill Roord won with Manchester City with the same numbers from Leicester City and recorded an assist. The football players of Chelsea have also won their ninth game of the season in the English league. With only the contribution of Dutch international Wieke Kaptein before halftime, the leader won 4-2 against Brighton & Hove Albion, where defender Marisa Olislagers completed the ninety minutes. Pursuer Manchester City also won. Against Leicester City, which was beaten 4-0, Jill Roord had an assist in store. Dominique Janssen at Manchester United took it a step further. She could call herself the star after the 4-0 home win against Liverpool with the assist at the 2-0 (deep pass) and 4-0 (cross), while in between she took care of the 3-0 with a placed shot. Brugts also scores On Saturday, Esmee Brugts helped leader Barcelona on the road against Real Betis in the Spanish league. The winger, who played the entire match, opened the score for the title holder after fifteen minutes. After a 4-0 halftime score, it eventually became 4-1 for Barcelona, which remained without damage in matchday twelve.
Later in the day, AZ won thanks to goals from Floor Spaan and Bo Anna op de Weegh with difficulty at low-flyer PEC Zwolle (1-2).
61723 The KNVB unanimously agreed to change the rules and accept women football clubs as independent entities. No longer a club has to be part of a male football club to beable to play in the women Eredivisie. https://www.parool.nl/nederland/ams...erland-mag-toetreden-tot-eredivisie~b3174be7/ Amsterdam's Hera United may become the first paid women's professional club in the Netherlands, allowed to join the Eredivisie Amsterdam may get a second professional football club: Hera United. The women's professional club is allowed to join the premier league through a KNVB regulation change, which makes it possible for a female professional team to no longer have to be part of a male professional football club.
I like this, especially because it's change of direction from where women's football seems to actually be going right now, with independent women's football clubs disappearing or being relegated in minor divisions everywhere in Europe and top-teams strictly depending on the support from men's clubs.
