Seen some fans criticize the Dutch for finishing second in this group, but honestly, I don't exactly get such criticism. They were missing their midfield engine/glue player (Groenen) for the first two games. They've been without their best offensive threat/goal scorer out of midfield (Roord) the whole time. Pelova (arguably their best creative talent at her best) has obviously been out the last 3+ games. Miedema has either not played or been still working to get back to an elite level. Beerensteyn has mostly been inconsistent. While Martens was inconsistent as well, they definitely could have used her occasional elite moments the last two games. That being said, I very much thank Koivisto for helping the Dutch finish second by scoring very, very late to equalize vs Norway, who continue to be goal shy despite their great offensive talent even without Hegerberg. The Dutch were also very lucky not to concede a PK vs Italy (Spitse handball). However, if Italy had won that match 1-0, it wouldn't have changed things for the Netherlands and Norway regarding this match; so, I think everything worked out in the end. Also, how close was that high boot on Kaptein to a PK? Not sure.
I'm also going to put some of Graham Hansen's goal on Spitse. She gave away the ball under no initial pressure leading to the Norway corner. If Jonker's not going to play Damaris in midfield, I'd seriously consider playing her in place of Spitse on the backline.
If you haven't found a replay yet, check out NeySport on YouTube. Yeah, the trademark relentless work ethic in midfield is still there, but it isn't supported by quality offense from the run of play (Roord and Pelova both out is a big blow) or on set pieces/corners (Spitse's deliveries aren't producing anywhere near as well as they previously did).
Don't have much confidence in Ajax at the moment. They got thrashed by Twente in the Supercup over the weekend and now face qualfiers for the Champions League. They lost Leuchter, Weerden, and Grant via transfres and did not bring anyone in. Did not renew Bakker's contract and Spitse was critical of the club after the performance.
Sucks, but the problem is that the female pond of players is rather shallow and will be for years. You really need numbers of players to have a realistic chance of replacing quality going out.

54329 FC Twente Women make history: for the first time in the Champions League FC Twente Women has qualified for the group stage of the Champions League for the first time in the club's history. It always went wrong in the preliminaries, but on Thursday evening there was cheering. Over two matches, NK Osijek was convincingly defeated: 8-1. Twente never managed to qualify for the group stage, but in this edition the Tukkers hardly had any problems. In the previous round, Valur was eliminated with clear numbers and Osijek was also a size too small for Twente. Last week's away game was already won 1-4 and so the return was more or less a formality. Especially after Kayleigh van Dooren opened the score after 25 minutes in the Grolsch Veste and with a virtual score of 5-1 it couldn't go wrong. Alieke Tuin, Sophie te Brake and Daniele Galic made it even more painful for Osijek. Twente will know on Friday who it will meet in the group stage of the Champions League. The draw is at 13.00 hours.

54644 A very weird comment: 'Not very sour', De Reus reacted to the defeat against Fiorentina on Sunday on ESPN. 'Of course, it's always annoying when you lose a game, but the reality is that we also think the competition is important. Then playing double matches is a huge extra burden. Ajax experienced that last year, so secretly I think it's nice that we have ourselves control over the weekly workload.'
Yohannes scores a beauty at the convincing start to the competition for Ajax. Ajax has started the Eredivisie Women with a resounding victory. Against PEC Zwolle it was 5-1 on Sunday afternoon, partly due to this beautiful goal by Lily Yohannes. Danique Tolhoek scored twice, but also missed a penalty. At the same time, Feyenoord did not get further than a 1-1 draw against AZ.
At the kick-off of the Women's Eredivisie, PSV immediately made its mark. Thanks to two goals from both Renate Jansen and Joëlle Smits, the Eindhoven team put aside the defenseless Telstar: 4-0.
