So.... I just saw our youth team highlights of the game in which they played Benfica's youth team and I must say they are shit....
a LOT of teams with awful youth systems link up with Benfica because they have so many young players coming through the academy I know Orlando City SC has an agreement with Benfica to loan out players to them.
FULL TIMEVittoria! Azzurrini ai quarti!#NapoliBologna 2-1#ViareggioCup pic.twitter.com/928Pf5UIxU— Official SSC Napoli (@sscnapoli) March 22, 2017 Leandrinho is a ********ing beast! 6 goals in 6 matches.
So our team in the UEFA youth league has 4 points after 3 games, tied with Feyenoord for 2nd spot. In Italy though, we're in 2nd last tied with Juventus. Our 2 most interesting players are Leandrinho and Gianluca Gaetano who are 19 and 17 years old. Leandrinho should go out on loan next year if he does well this season. I'd give Gaetano another year with our primavera cuz he's just turned 17 this year.
Gaetano has been incredible for the primavera this season, really their stand out player and looking to be the best since Insigne. Anyone know what the hell's happened to Leandrinho though? He's being included occasionally in the senior squad, but he's only made like 2 appearances for the primavera this season. That can't really be good for his development.
He was really good for Brazil's youth team, and continued that with our spring. Also he's often making the bench, I know Sarri clearly at least somewhat rates him. It's not like the spring squad because he's not good enough, it seems more like Sarri thinks he's too good for them. Edit: I've just seen an article released a few days ago, wherein his agent says that he hopes Leandrinho can play in the Copa Italia, at least as a sub for the last half hour or so. That'd be nice.
Leandrinho has returned to playing with the Primavera, and in two games already has scored one and set up another via a parried shot. In general he just massively elevates our standard of play, though he does seem slightly out of place with his teammates. Gaetano has also continued his fantastic form, he now has 14 goals and 9 assists this season from attacking midfield, while playing for a team struggling against relegation. He looks like a really special talent, he's been just as good as Insigne was for example. There's also been some rumours of interest in Musa Barrow, current top scorer in that division with 22 goals and 8 assists in 17 games. He'd be a fantastic pickup, he's already on the edges of the Atalanta squad.
Napoli primavera got trounced today by Torino 5-2. The only bright spot is that Gaetano scores two goals Gaetano! 🔥 #TorinoNapoli pic.twitter.com/Pfpi0dEcKf— Everything Napoli (@NapoliPix) April 24, 2019
Lots of our primavera players coming back from being on loan this summer. Players who have been playing Serie B or higher are (ages are listed in brackets: Tuttino (22), Palmeiro (23) and Roberto Insigne (24). Tuttino - Cosenza - 34 appearances, 10 goals, 5 assists R. Insigne - Benevento - 28 appearances, 9 goals, 11 assists Palmeiro - Cosenza - 29 appearances, 1 goal, 1 assist Tuttino and R. Insigne are wingers while Palmeiro is a defensive midfielder. Stats don't always tell the full story, Benevento came 3rd place and are the favourites to win the promotion playoffs. Cosenza finished mid table (10th place) but only scored 34 goals meaning Tuttino was directly involved in almost half of the team's goals. Tuttino and R. Insigne may be ready to make the jump to a Serie A team next season or at the very least a team near the top of the table of Serie B. Palmeiro is the least promising and will definitely spend another season in Serie B.
Our Primavera team came 10th of 16 teams in Campionato Primavera 1. They also came 3rd in the UEFA youth league group stage. Despite the poor showing, Gianluca Gaetano got 5 goals in the 6 group stage games and finished tied for 2nd in scoring among the whole competition (Including no penalty shots). Gaetano was by far the standout on the team but another player who we should keep an eye on is Alberto Senese who can play anywhere across the backline.
