If anything, they're cooler than both my sibling and I. We're not slouches but my parents are a different breed. They do have a lot of stories, some I can't believe, others that have come in handy in my life, and others that make me think they're missing with me.
Ha, that makes sense. And not long after I posted the comment about the Beatles, I was talking to my mother (dad passed away nearly 10 years ago), asked her about that concert, and she corrected me that it was the Baltimore Civic Center, not Memorial Stadium.
Those Beatles stadium shows generally made use of the ballpark PA systems, it’s hard to imagine just how tinny that must’ve sounded to those up in the cheap seats.
Reading about venues, I gotta write about one that's Detroit legend. Harpos. It's a metal venue and was a disco club before it. Before that, it was a movie theater that opened in the 30s. It is also in one of the worst neighborhoods in Detroit. And it is legendary for it. Both my parents had stories about that place. Even now, it's still sketchy but they have armed security patrolling the venue now. I still think the area is dicey, but the ownership is trying to help clean it up. Groups like Huey Lewis, Quiet Riot, Johnny and Edgar Winter, Dead Kennedys, and many others played here. THere's a lot of hip hop artists that played here too. It's insane. I haven't attended this venue, and I don't think I will. Mainly because I'm not into any groups that would play there.
It’s like the Argentine rock shows I lived through growing up. Great musicians, but their live shows sucked because the equipment sucked so bad.
I always thought the Eagles were dreary af but after seeing them live (before we lost Glenn Frey) they were really good, Joe Walsh in particular, glad I went. Also, heads up, Live Nation (yes, the monopolistic price gougers) are doing their $30 ticket thing right now (just picked up tix for a couple of shows myself), $30 total, no fees, tax... Live Nation — Live Events, Concert Tickets, Tour News, Venues and (not Live Nation related), just picked up my first ever Iggy Pop ticket! If anyone here is going to be in the Portland area in late July, I'd happily buy you a ticket too. I'd rather not fly solo for this one, but I'm prepared to. It's one thing (these days) to find people who want to go see sentimental favorites like say Simple Minds, it's a whole 'nother thing to find people who want to go see Iggy Pop or X.
Sunday would be really cool, but personally I'd bail before Death Cab------bleh, I understand why Zooey Deschanel ditched you, you boring git.
Great show, great venue...beautiful day. I've seen Jack White with White Stripes, Raconteurs, Dead Weather and solo a couple of times, he was so damn good last night, new material was brilliant as were old classics, like 'The Hardest Button to Button' we were joined by some other CA transplants (who settled in Post Falls, and made the 7 hour trek)...McMenamins, Edgefield, wow, sweet spot for a show...still buzzing this morning from that one. *pro shots from last night, not mine.
Mannequin Pussy is horrible but a fun reminder that Epitaph records is still a thing. I still have my high school CD collection, many of which were released on Epitaph.
