Yeah, I thought the IMAX screen was smaller than what I remember from the science films I saw as a kid at Balboa Park, but I figured I'm just an adult now so things aren't as big as they use to seem. Still, front row, in the state that I was in: certainly I'm in no position to remember exactly how big the screen was. Big enough, I suppose.
When faced with the prospect of giant floating subtitles in Avatar 3D (I'm in Brazil), I decided instead to go see director Ken Loach's Looking for Eric. Good flick. Although I couldn't where it was going for awhile it redeemed itself in the end. It will probably come to the US sometime this year. It's about a hapless bloke who gets life lessons from Eric Cantona and... Bah, here's the trailer: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j852L4afUJs"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j852L4afUJs[/ame]
Yeah, perfect casting. Cantona doesn't even have to "act" in this. He just is Cantona. (If you see it, stay for the credits.)
Saw The Lovely Bones last night. Very much a Peter Jackson-looking movie, but it's not quite as good as most of his movies. I haven't read the book but those who have say there's been something lost in the interpretation.
It's a really good film. I saw it a couple of days ago and I keep thinking about it. There's also a great scene thats football-related, and IMO, is very well done, specially for a non-Hollywood film.
Roger Ebert passed away today. He was a big time movie critic here in America and will always be remembered in the 80's for treating popular movies with the same gravitas as serious movies. RIP
