    ... Shaq Daddy?
    No!

    ... MJ?
    No!

    ... Tiger?
    No!

    ... Derek Jeter?
    No!

    ... Anna Kournikova?
    Please...

According to the front page of this weekend's USA Today, it is...

    DAVID
    BECKHAM!

I can't believe a footballer is on the front page of a leading American newspaper and it isn't even a World Cup year!
I hate Manchester United (sorry Devils) but I'll take whatever pub the sport can get in this country! ;)

But I think Michael Schumacher is more popular (lots of people seem to dislike Beckham)

I'm sorry, man, but anyone that sits on a throne at their wedding (or anyother time, really) is a twat. And that's putting it mildly. If a US athlete did it, we'd be all over it, talking about the arrogance of it all.

I like David Beckham. But that's just ridiculous.

I also don't think he was the captain of England in 1999, either.

They've got it all wrong. If they mean "popular" in the sense of being well-known or a household name, then it's STILL Pele...

Or Mohammad Ali, or Mickey Mantle, or, uh...
    Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

It's 2003. It's between Tiger Woods, Beckham, and Michael Jordan.

You think that was his idea?

It's that damn wife of his.
As much as I like to dislike Man Utd as the best of them do, one must say that David does seem to be a pretty solid chap - apart from his readiness to be swayed by his other half, of course.

He seems like a swell fella, I'll give you that. But you just don't do things like that. Ever. I don't care what you're wife said. If my wife asked me to walk naked down Haight St, I wouldn't do it. If your wife asks you to sit on a f'ing throne at your wedding (and don't forget this is not to long after WC '98), you say no.

take a pill. it was to show that it was a post-wedding pic... "their day"... you know - like being king & queen for the day? They were in jeans & not exactly pretending to be royalty.

    big friggen deal.

I was referring to him being Captain of England at this moment in time.

I suspect the throne was Posh's idea.

    no no no..

He's not the most famous athlete. The most famous athlete in the world is that guy who does all that stuff. You know.... kind of medium tall. with the thing. He's really good. Never seen anyone do that better than he did.... What's his name again? He was in that commercial where he was all like "buy this - cause I use it" and stuff. man. I hated that commercial. remember when he went to that place where they drive on the other side of the road.... cant think of the name of the place right now... but when he got there, the press was all like "hey, can we take your picture and stuff?"... and he was all like "yeah man. g'head". so he was like in all the papers the next day and stuff... what was his name again? I can't seem to remember.. but man, he is like the most popular athlete of all time...
