Re: The Moose is on fire!!! Let the..Mother-(blank)....Burn! He did ok, but he needs a haircut...he looks like Frankie Hejduk Jr. except he can cross and has yet to do a stepover
What did he do that was so great? Totally muffed one attempt near goal (no one near him), and was stripped of the ball a number of times. He's quite mediocre.
He took advantage of space and made some of his own. By running intelligently, he put himself in positions to create that "no one near him" situation (and others like it). You forget his early rocket that forced a real save (that was muffed) and his screamer that was just over the bar. His third clear opportunity he decided to pass rather than shoot. Probably was conflicted. Normal young player stuff. I enjoyed watching him because he was one of the few who ran well.
Let the Moose loose! He played well and deserves more minutes...man our depth in midfield is scary...can we get some defenders??? -rw
Ray has it right. Moose showed energy, got open and took some shots. He also got exposed defensively and had several giveaways. However, given the energy shown, the ability to find space and the willingness to put serious shots on frame, his other lapses can be accepted (and worked on in practice). If you saw the same thing from a 5 year player, you would say "journeyman", but that's not the worst thing in the world either. (See, Kamler, Brian.)
I thought that he played quite well. In fact I think that our depth at midfield is one of our strong suits. And as we found out Sunday as well we have depth at striker. Kpene is pretty good, on and off the ball.
I am a bit confused by the title of the thread, why do you want to burn his mother. not cool. He played with a lot of excitement, would have been great if he scored.
He hustles a lot and that's it. He's a prototypical 90's American player and unless he develops his technique and strategery, he'll end up in the A-league.
Lets see, its only May in his second season and he's finally getting minutes, give him time before relegating him to the A-League.
I was pleased with his contribution. I'd rather have a player bust his ass, take shots, create chances, and make a few reckless tackles, than sit back, make too many flat-passes, and look to lay the ball off instead of taking the shot. With a bit more seasoning, Moose could become an American version of Fred. I wouldn't mind a lineup with Moose on the right, Olsen on the left, and Fred in the middle. They're all quite aggressive, and Fred and Moose aren't afraid to take defenders on, all 3 won't hesitate to take a shot either.
True but he still has had limited minutes let him find his feet before we all relogate him to Erpen status.
Yeah. I'm being a little too much of a Negative Nelly on Moose. He played well and, dear goodness does the kid hustle. Comparing him to Fred may be a bit out there, but he played pretty well and hopefully will continue to develop.
If it's the play I'm remembering (I think Kpene dummied a cross-field thruball that got to a WIDE OPEN Moose) watching it live it looked like he shoulda crossed to Olsen. But then on the replay it looked like Olsen woulda been offside. Still Moose should have taken a more effective shot. But I think his play was encouraging overall (although he also missed badly on a Facu-style slide tackle that gave Bornstein an open path to the endline to send in a cross).
He took two shots that were in the general vacinity of the goal. Right now, that makes him one of our best players. He did some things well, some not so well. I think if he keeps progressing, he'll be a nice contributor. He also seems versatile, which is nice.
He hit one long shot that the keeper had to save. He blasted another over the bar after chest trapping between two defenders. The third I think was more of a cross to ben than a shot and Ben just missed getting to it. not sure if was would have been offside but I don't think it was a shot based on how Moose hit the ball.
I'm willing to give the kid a few chances. Some of his bad plays seemed to be more a product of inexperience than inability.
