Who is suggesting that the Rapids become tenants of the Broncos? Exactly no-one!!! But isn't it worth thinking about playing a CCC game in front of let's say 30,000, indoors, as opposed to 2,673 freezing souls in 15 degree temperatures at the Dick? DC United just played a game at Baltimore, Columbus played a game in Cleveland, no-one is suggesting they move there permanently.
That’s a lot at six. Lack of dome didn’t stop them so NFL billionaire owner should be ok. They are asking for a $140 million in infrastructure, not said what they’ll pay for the rail yard, and might be requesting tax deferments. Details are on going.
You don't have to look very hard to identify Crew fans who think the team might relocate to Cleveland. These aren't the smartest slice of the fanbase, mind you, but still. It's also substantively a different issue because Cleveland is 2.5 hours from Columbus, a totally different market. And the move ad nothing to do with weather but, rather, Messi. That cash grab pissed off a lot of core Crew fans.
What part of "even if its only for a couple of games" did you not read? I'd be shocked if the Rapids got 30K to a first-round CCC game in its current format in my lifetime, regardless of where it was played in Denver. Where was a permanent move for the Rapids suggested?
That's interesting. We (the taxpayers of the stadium district) just built the Broncos a new stadium 25 years ago, that a big part of my issue. If they didn't have an NFL stadium, or it was 75 years old, I'd understand putting millions into related infrastructure, but no to replace a young stadium. A trend, although stadium funding schemers are aways evolving their tactics so it may have changed recently, the last decade or more, is to have the government entity own the building while letting the team collect all revenues in order to get out of paying maintenance and property tax.
You say that, but at 25 years old, it makes it the 14th oldest NFL stadium and in 3 years it will be the 12th oldest once Tennessee's and Cleveland's new stadiums are built.
I get his point re: Philly and the tendency to be a little more out of mind because they're out of sight. That thought occurred to me when DC was playing in Baltimore. I think that's kind of a loss because it's in a different city altogether, but had it been at FedEx, I think the change to move the needle a bit in the local talk might have been worth something. But yes, that's Messi and 60+k, not CCC and whateverk that would be. The economics depend a lot on whether the cousins would charge something close to cost or would be looking to maximize profit on the game, but it wouldn't just be cheap in any case. But one other thought, CCL/CCC has been reconfigured several times, mostly to serve MLS's two needs: 1) Not to play a formidable opponent in preseason 2) Increase the share of games that would actually sell tickets Which is to say that I wouldn't be real surprised if, now that MLS no longer particularly wants a cream-puff in late February to warm up against LMX competition, the tournament isn't reconfigured again so that they no longer get one.
Yea, I don't get that. One minute it's grow the game and the next it's pissed off core fans. I watched DC United and LA Galaxy before the Union came about and went to few international games at the Linc. I've seen the Union play in D.C. and Red Bull Arena which involved travel of about the same distance. This whole cash grab thing is very transparent when you realize this is a "PRO" soccer league. Buying players, getting rid of pay to play, employing staff, training grounds, new stadiums..... All a part of growing the game and none of it is free for some reason.
Twenty five years ago this league was just five years in and I still went to Blockbuster almost once a week if not more. Seems like a long time to me.
25 years is not a long time for a building. Chances are, the apartment or home you lived in then, and the actual building the Blockbuster was at, are still standing.
Not sure I'm getting your meaning. In any event, re: the Columbus v. Miami "home" game in Cleveland, I don't think anyone would have batted an eye if ownership had relocated that game to a larger stadium in Central Ohio. The problem being that there isn't one that's able to host an MLS game. Ohio Stadium is certainly large enough, but since it's last renovation it's field is too narrow for anything other than exhibition matches. So, surprise surprise, ownership moved the game to a stadium they control 150 miles away. Adding insult to injury, they required season ticket holders to buy a ticket to that game, there was opt-out option. So, yeah, it was a cash grab, which is fine. But it was also done in a way that screwed over the team's core fans, whch is not fine.
lol. Mine became a sex toys store; and the manager went to work in a tech call center. I get the feeling blockbuster was his favorite job, he is a real movie fan.
It is fine, I know there was a movement by fans to save the Crew, but the current owners are the ones the really save the Crew, just pretend that for the owners in order the save the crew they come up with one condition ( to play one game in Cleveland) and the fans vote YES or NO which one would won? Stop the entitlement please
This is the kind of elitest attitude that gets upvotes here but reaffirms that, after 30 years, MLS is still a local-first entity with little national understanding. Haslam Sports Group is actively gaslighting the Crew fanbase, little by little, that "The Crew" (HSG's preferred term) are a regional team. - The anthem singer at the Crew home opener this year was called "homegrown" ... from Twinsburg (NE Ohio) - STH reps are only assuring people that there won't be a Cleveland game "this season." - My first rep this season told me ... off the record while out the door ... "IMO, based on what I know, only a matter of time before big games go to Cleveland with the schedule change." '- HSG released an animated video showing a soccer team in Crew colors playing in the dome. No one is building a $3 billion dome and owning 2 soccer teams 120 miles away ...and retaining MLS rights to NE Ohio ... and not moving games. Or a team. Not over the long term. Columbus Crew fans have every right to be concerned.
Video from this weekend...still no grass, that stuff is gonna be coming up in chunks when they do play on it for the first time.
Gilette held up better than I expected for two games this past weekend after the sod was just brought in for the world cup. Someone has figured out the right way to do it.
It's going to be like how Disneyland was when they opened it. Open to the public, but construction is still going on behind scenes.
To answer my own question Pitch Details: Top-notch Bermudagrass will dress Nu Stadium, grown in a farm that grows high-quality sod locally in Loxahatchee, Florida. “Lay and Play” sod: a unique process of growing sod that allows it to be laid on the field and have great footing immediately, without moving like traditional thin-cut sod. World-class tools such as grow lights, compact sensor devices and a sophisticated drainage system will ensure the right air, soil, light, humidity, soil moisture and soil salinity is provided to grow the grass healthy and recover from usage.
