---------- Don't live in Seattle, but pecking order in the "football stadium" is Seahawks, Sounders, then Reign, but they also get concerts etc. like any large stadium The baseball stadium is next door, it has a long regular season of 81 home games to schedule around and then that is extended when they make the playoffs like this year and the baseball playoffs can go for almost a month depending on far you go. I think this year if you got to game 7 of the final round it touches November. Crazy.
It's seems to have worked well over the last 20 years. In think Seattle last played with football markings in 2014 or 2015. Notts County and Nottingham Forest have to reschedule games occasionally because of fixture clashes or big cricket matches at Trent Bridge. They also both field women's teams. But no-one is suggesting they relocate.
Sorry for being late coming in on this discussion, but: It's not likely that the Sounders would be impacted by a Mariners playoff game, from a starting time perspective. While it is true that SoDo cannot support both a sold out Mariners game (48k) and a sold out Seahawks game (69k), it can handle a sold out Mariners game and a "sold out" Sounders game (33k).This weekend's Sounders game was impacted from an attendance perspective tho. This weekend's game was the lowest attendance for a Portland/Seattle game in the MLS era and that was likely because there weren't any walk-ups due to the Mariners game. As an example, this weekend had a Mariners game start at 5:30 and the Sounders started at 7:30. Parking was expensive AF and/or you had to walk a long distance for free parking, but it was not unbearable. The good news is that SoDo has very good transit access and it is only getting better. There are several light rail stations that connect the major suburbs north and south of Seattle (and the Eastern suburbs later this year) and Downtown Seattle, which is the central hub for pretty much all of Seattle's buses, is an easy walk to the stadiums. There's even a ferry dock an easy walk from the stadiums for those that live on the Peninsula.
Parking was free at my place. My son and I had our chauffeur (my wife) take us down and pick us up. Heh.
========== I am sure even the light rail and Sounder commuter trains (do they run weekends or for Seahawks or other big events?) were very, very busy. But we all know people probably think about going by car and trying to park many times first. Does Seattle have that or do people or segments of fans think transit first in cases like these? There are some good cities around the country with good stadium transit access I have used. Seattle should be one, especially as your light rail system continues to expand.
My daughter went University of Washington. I’ve been on the light rail UW football games and to the airport on a days the NFL or MLB teams are playing, it seems widely and well used. Many from outside the city park and ride is my impression.
The United Football League is putting three more teams in MLS stadiums in Spring 2026. An expansion team in Orlando and the Dallas and Houston teams are moving into the MLS stadiums. Also there is a new team in Louisville in the USL/NWSL soccer stadium, and a Columbus team in Historic Crew Stadium. The DC team has been in Audi Field for several years now. https://www.theufl.com/news/united-football-league-announces-new-vision-2026
The Houston Gamblers' games at Shell Energy Stadium will mean 5 football games in the spring and 4 or 5 in the fall when Texas Southern plays most of their home schedule. That's probably fewer total football games than at Toyota Stadium in Frisco has with UFL, high school, and a college championship game but we'll see how the field does in Houston. I don't know about those other MLS stadiums total usage.
========== I'll say what I have said before when MLS teams get tenants It's great MLS teams are getting the rent checks now, rather than all the years MLS teams paid rent BUT Get all the money up front !! Make sure the check doesn't bounce
============= Other good ones around the country that I have been on and just off the top of my head= Portland has light rail station literally at the front door LAFC has a light rail and busway stop 5 minute walk and those are well use San Diego has the original light rail station that was there for Jack Murphy Station-new stadium is same area NYCFC has several subway lines to Yankee Stadium Montreal has subway as serves the Olympic Stadium as well Toronto has a commuter rail stop at Exhibition grounds and will have a future subway stop as well. DC old place had close subway stop, the new place has subway as well, but a bit more of a walk Atlanta has subway to the dome. NYRB has PATH subway into Manhattan and Newark Penn Station is a less than a 10 minute walk
I don't believe the Sounder commuter trains run for Sounders games, but I know they run for Seahawks games. Thanks to how bad the Mariners have been since *checks calendar* forever, this has been the first time it has run for Mariners games and I believe even then it is only been for the playoffs.. For Sounders and Mariners games, they will add additional cars to the light rail trains and trains run every 10 min before weekend games and every 15 min after. Most people in the Seattle area are still pretty much car first. For Sounders games, parking is generally pretty plentiful and inexpensive, if not free. Its only really an issue if the start times for both Mariners and Sounders games are close.
Vancouver is served by a SkyTrain station and Toronto in addition to a commuter rail stop is also served by the streetcar.
Houston has a light rail stop right in front of Shell Energy Stadium but it is not a heavily used system overall.
==== Man, should have Van on the list as I took Sky Train to the game once. And the Toronto too as it serves the Exhibition Place Grounds- that streetcar I think runs along the waterfront from Union Station.
Ahh Jack Murphy that's a name that brings back memories of great tailgates and mediocre Chargers teams. Although to be incredibly pedantic the "Trolley" stop wasn't built until after Qualcomm had bought the naming rights.
‐------ the light rail has been there a while. i took Amtrak down from LA and transferred to the light rail when the MLS Allstar game was at the Murph
The MLS All-Star Game was in San Diego July 17, 1999. It was one week after the US Women won the 1999 World Cup in the Rose Bowl.
