It is now almost inevitable that the final will be LA (clinched tonight) vs. NE (just have to avoid losing at home)

So here are the main points for the story:

*Twellman vs. Ruiz - this one's already been written, just drag out the old copy: one has more goals the other more points, both first year in the league, both 20 years old, both wear #20, both finalists for league MVP

*Rematch of 2000 Open Cup...only this time on New England turf

*Always the bridesmaid...LA comes to Foxborough and loses again!?!? (second time in the same city)

*Worst to first...now an MLS tradition, this time it's the Revs turn

*The return of Lalas...finalist for comeback player of the year "coming back" to Foxborough

*Offense/defense...take your pick! The LA post-season scoring juggernaut rolls into New England, which is now the stingiest defense in the universe. But don't forget that the Revs topped the table in goals in the regular season

We can only hope that this match gets the ink it deserves!

Lets hold off counting on the Revs getting to the Cup match until the finish putting the Crew away on Saturday. Our team is tired and beat up. True, they only need a tie to advance but lets not count the Crew out. As the man said "It ain't over till it's over"

So true. I wish that everyone could play and be healthy, but that doesn't look like the case.

Wish I could be home for Saturday!

Why jump ahead to the Cup at all? The story of the Revs making it this far is already classic.

Talk about irony, I start a death watch thread and my true "fan-hood" is questioned, and when I look ahead optimistically I am cautioned to take one game at a time.

Before the playoffs started discussing all the possibilities was all the rage. Oh well, at least this thread will be sitting here on Saturday night after the game should the Revs find themselves headed to the final against LA.

I have broused this forum before but never posted in here. This is an incredible run by the Revs. To early to count on making it to the finals, but if the Revs make it, playing at home. What an incredible story. First the Pats. Now the Revs.

    * Agreed. Saturday is going to be a tough, difficult match against a talented Crew squad. Yes, we'll have Hernandez and Kante back, but success will require a total team effort, much was the case last night.

Don't put the cart in front of the horse. The Crew are loaded with talent. I'd love to have one of their second string strikers to go along with Taylor. Wolde ain't cutting it despite his obvious effort.

Ahem, this would be LA's THIRD loss in Foxboro for an MLS Cup.

The last man still bashing Wolde!

It ain't easy holding the ball up when your whole team is on defense. Any it ain't any fun ragging defenders the whole game. Yet he does both very well. He's a critical component of the team defense. Watch how badly whoever replaces Twellman does and you can appreciate what Wolde (and TT) do defensively.

    A simple question

Now, if the REVs win on Sunday, can Tony Frias add "MLS Champion 2002" to his resumé?

oh god, what a scary thought, moacir. LOL.
you think tony will use that as a pick-up line? "hey, i play for the MLS champions?...what position? any one you want, baby..... hey, where are you going???"

If that happens, I would say that that cements Frias' place in Revs trivia ;)

Re: Re: The MLS Cup story that writes itself [R]

Yes, we must keep these things straight. We have already lost 2 MLS Cups in Foxboro. The first when Bruce sold his soul to Satan in the 75th minute, and the second when God decided to humble Kevin Hartman. Don't think for a moment that we aren't still pissed about it.

That being said, best of luck in what I am sure will be a great game.

    Cheers

    No, it won't be. :D

Congrats to the Revs on a great run through the playoffs. Good luck on "Soccer Sunday" and good luck in '03 international play.

It's too bad Fat Sigi's lardness overshadows his coaching ability.

Speaking of coaching, it would be interesting to see what Nicol would do should the Revs fall behind. I guess Bunker Ball wouldn't work at the point...

New England scored 49 goals in 28 regular season matches this year so I don't think putting the ball in the backof the net is foreign to them.
