2011 MLS Cup Playoffs Thread Guess we don't have a play off thread... NY up 1-0 in the 61', currently an ideal result for Crew if they can advance tomorrow.
New York leads FC Dallas in the 70th minute on a goal from Lindpere after some nice work from Ballouchi. It seemed against the run of play, but NYRB is putting some pressure on. A NYRB victory and Crew victory keeps the Crew in the "easier" Eastern Conference playoffs.
Re: Adopted Cousin of Other Teams' News Thread I'm loving this. If the Crew could somehow survive tomorrow, we could very well wind up playing for the Cup at the HDC if we stay in the east. The east is such a cluster that I could literally see any team beating any other team. There's no real separation there. I wouldn't like our chances against L.A. Go Bulls!! (vomit)
Wow. The actual contact wasn't all that severe, but when you come in from behind like that -- that should be red every day of the week and twice on Sunday, and I'm glad it was called that way. Going to be an interesting finish now.
Wow. Henry gets a goal in garbage time. LA at NY this weekend, and the Crew's playoff route will now head back east if they survive Colorado.
Serves FC Dallas right. You lack sense of urgency, you pay the price. This is why anti-futbol is pathetic mentality on the field, especially when up a man. Either pimp the game, or else, get pimped.
Henry ices it with a goal in the 98th minute. NYRB win 2-0. Wow... the Crew really have a great opportunity here.
Garber has to be hating this. He's probably going through the league charter, looking for a little known codicil that will allow both teams a direct route to the final We have such a great history when presented with opportunities like this.
I bet Donny G is loving this. He gets NY vs LA, he gets Henry vs Beckham, and Agudelo vs Donovan (even though Agudelo doesnt start)
I dunno. I'd think for him 2 games is better than 1. And a good learning opportunity for non soccer ppl with the aggregate system.
Wouldn't it be funny if we won the east and NYRB won the west again and we met at HDC again 3 years later and beat them once more?
That's what I'm worried about... Hopefully we don't treat it like our last opportunity and let them run all over us like we did against Chicago.
I have to think that we're the most Garber obsessed sub-forum on this website. Yes, including MLS: You Be The Don.
My guess is that the Crew FO is hating this. After the game finishes with our win at Midnight eastern, they have 1 business day to sell a SKC game rather than a Galaxy game. But, as far as our chances go, this is much preferred. NY has already proven that what you do during the regular season doesn't matter so much: if you qualify you have a chance. I hope it helps the guys believe as much themselves. But yeah, The Don and Co. have to think this is about the best case scenario save NY v LA final. A 2 legged affair in 2 of the best venues between the 2 biggest salaried teams. It even helps to put a lid on some of conspiracy theories as one of the high and mighty will be eliminated. That NY back line is going to need to play a little better for them to have a shot though.
Wow. RSL drops a 3-0 hammer on the Sounders in leg 1. And it could have been worse. Keller made several outstanding saves, and they were lucky not to see a straight red card to Alonso right after the second goal.
Saw a Grant Wahl twitter post last night halfway through the second half that said something to the effect of, "We are now in the 10th half of MLS playoff soccer for the sounders and they have 1 goal." Is there any reason to believe Sounders can score 3 goals? And how do they play so much better during US Open Cup than MLS Cup? Bizzare.
I'm just glad another team has a coach who can't get past the first round of the MLSCup Playoffs! Amirite?!!??
