    Golden boots is pretty pointless since it could be won by players who add their goals in meaningless 3rd place games. In fact its already happened multiple times.

    Why are goals scored by teams that are not even in the tournament anymore counted anyway ?

    I bet a decent legal team could overturn this decision in court

    One could argue it's already pointless because in a tournament format, players are playing against different sets of teams of different strengths.

    All the matters at the end of the day is winning the title.

    This is the same reason why citing a player's "all competitions" numbers is pointless.

    As in, "Julian Alvarez scored 20 goals in all competitions!" (Though he got a lot of 'free goals' while bumslaying a quitting Spurs team.)

    Yep, Rodri winning World Cup GB is such bullshit. Not taking any from Rodri (great player, really wish Barca could get him).

    Can only guess that Messi already had two GBs so they wanted to give it to other players instead. Argentina's celebration after England match, may make Fifa uncomfortable. And the winner take it all.

    2026 WC is Messi's biggest carryjob, alongside with his 2018/19 season with Barca. All ended in shameful defeat, with his teammates blew away all his hard work.

    I've long been an admirer of Messi. But how can he win the Golden Ball, when his side were so thoroughly curbstomped and humiliated in the Final?

    That said, who GAF about individual awards? Isn't that more of an LPB/Mbappe/Vini type of thing?


    I'm more concerned with Barça winning silver..

    Those are the only reasons, maybe the political one even more so. As funnily neither Busquets nor Xavi was top 3 in 2010 (Forlan, Sneijder, Villa) which completely contradicts FIFA. Also what's the point of MoM's, if they also contradict to the actual results...

    I don't know if this is the right thread to ask this question but here I go.
    After winning Euro 2016, did Cristiano ever make a comment that a player must win an international title with his country before he could be considered a GOAT?
    If so, link to an article or video would be appreciated.

    Remember CR7 "coached" the final from the sideline after getting injured. He claimed he had predicted Eder would score when he came on as a sub, so I'm guessing he counts that as an assist for himself.

    That said, I don't think he ever made a statement like what you're asking about. But 2016-17 was peak of Ronaldo-is-the-GOAT talk: he had as many Ballons as Messi (5) and had won the Euros, while Messi had been to 3 consecutive finals (Copa twice, WC once) and failed to win any. It was a genuine debate then, but CR7 declined ever since and Messi has just kept on going.
