After the success of the girls during the 2007 World Cup, I figured they deserved their own specific thread. It looks like Sermanni is sticking around. http://www.smh.com.au/news/football...rmanni-overseas/2007/11/22/1195321949825.html
The Matildas have received further recognition with captain Cheryl Salisbury and youngster Ellyse Perry collecting major awards at the NSW Institute of Sport 2007 Awards held overnight in Sydney. Matildas skipper Salisbury collected the latest award of her decorated career in winning Team Athlete of the Year award, while at the other end of the scale 16-year-old dual international Perry was named Junior athlete of the Year. Last week Matildas striker Lisa De Vanna became the first footballer to claim the WA Sportswoman of the Year Award, with team-mate Collette McCallum also nominated. There was also recognition last night for Australian FIFA Women’s World Cup final referee Tammy Ogston who won the Officiator of the Year Award at the Queensland Sports Federation Awards. http://www.footballaustralia.com.au...px?s=insideffa_newsfeatures_newsitem&id=20497
The Matildas will play a two match series against the US in a few weeks at Cary on the 27.04.2008 and at Birmingham on the 3.05.2008.

Looks like our girls will get their a-leauge after all http://au.fourfourtwo.com/news/73143,spring-date-for-girls-aleague.aspx Like Jo said - If we can make it to a World Cup quater final without one imagine how good we will be with one!
And the draw for the Asian Cup has been completed, and the Matildas face a tough group stage to qualify for the semi finals. http://news.smh.com.au/matildas-draw-challenging-cup-group/20080418-273j.html

A nice win over Canada last night! Just caught the Highlights on SBS. Munoz's goal was sweet. Great stuff
Walsh, Burgess out for the Asian Cup Personal reasons for Burgess -- but Sarah Walsh will be out for quite some time, due to a broken leg. Bad luck for a good lady.
Aust won 4-0. I hope they don't have to rely on Goal Difference at the end of this group, but at least the key players will be fit for the S Korea game. S Korea beat Japan 3-1 overnight.
I saw Perry's goal- excellent effort! http://www.smh.com.au/news/football/matildas-on-cusp-of-semis-berth/2008/06/01/1212258649391.html
Matildas through despite defeat to Japan. http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/matildas/matildas-progress-despite-defeat-119952/
They were lucky as it came down to goal difference with 3 teams on 6 points (S Korea and Japan). We now have to play N Korea who have been a bogey side for us.
All right Frank Lowy, time for you to do the right thing and sack Sermanni. Failure to qualify for Beijing 2008 combined with a fourth-place finish at the AFC Women's Asian Cup should make the decision so easy even a monkey could do it.
