If we're being honest, he was already much improved once he got his place back from Williams. Still not quite where he was prior his injury under van Gaal but pretty close. And he indeed does look terrific (even his hairdo is looking much better than it used to be). Still want us to bring a viable option to not just push him but also to replace him if he goes down (his reliability is still a question mark at this point). Definitely do not think it's impossible for him to regain his place in the England squad. Only real competition right now are Saka (if he chooses to play for England) and Chilwell, who he can get past if he gets back to his best.
Luke Shaw calls for more signings. https://www.manchestereveningnews.c...-news/man-united-transfers-luke-shaw-18964940
Kinda hoping the new guy either a. lights a fire on this guy’s ass or b. takes his spot. Too comfortable and although he has improved slightly, not comfortable with him as the guaranteed starter.
Shaw decision making and positioning were woeful as pointed out. However, not to defend the guy (guilty as charged) but bigger picture is the why. Shaw was the “apparent cause” while the “root cause” was their tactics of pushing on their fullbacks who were not tracked by either our midfield or wing-forwards. So everytime they switched play there were free runners. With our static Matic #6 caught out by the switch and Pogs being Pogs (even more so this post-Covid version) there were players free wide and central. So our defenders had choices to make and often made bad ones. We have had similar issues in the other games, the weaknesses in this starting 11 have been well and truly exposed. https://www.manchestereveningnews.c...ws/man-united-tottenham-news-tactics-19054423
Luke Shaw dropping consecutive good performances, registering assists in both games followed with a hamstring injury is the most Luke Shaw thing ever. Always seems to happen when he hits form. 😤— Man United Media (@ManUnitedMedia) November 8, 2020
🗣 Shaw: "We have a great relationship, he pushes me each day in training and we get on well. It’s nice to have that competition, we push each other to get the best out of ourselves. It’s a positive way for both of us to look at it."Certainly getting the best out of Shaw 👏— UnitedReds (@UnitedRedscom) January 18, 2021 Shaw is clearly a guy who needs to be kept on his toes, lest he starts feeling secure in his position and will invariably coast. Seen it before with Williams when he first was called up and now with Telles's arrival. Shouldn't be like this ideally, but if that is what is needed to get the best of him, then it is what it is. On this form though, Shaw does deserve to be in contention for England: of that there is no doubt (even if there is serious competition with the likes of Chilwell and Cresswell).
Top 3 left back in the league on form. @doubletrouble his attacking output has already stepped up Another improvement in Shaw’s game that has increased his attacking output is his involvement in more goals and shots. Shaw is now creating 0.34 goal actions per 90 minutes compared to a very low 0.05 last season and 2.94 shot actions per 90 minutes compared to 2.18 last season. pic.twitter.com/snG1ucu7ix— Armband Media (@armbandmedia) January 18, 2021 And his pressing has too. On the defensive side, his successful pressure percentage has gone up from 28.5% to 41.6%. Unlike previous seasons where he applied most of his pressures in the defensive third, he is now applying more pressures in the midfield third, which maturity in his playing style. pic.twitter.com/2G3YKRluU6— Armband Media (@armbandmedia) January 18, 2021 Most of all, he gains us a lot of territory with his dribbling and progressive passing. That cutback to Bruno deserved an assist at the weekend.
Shaw is clearly a pet project of Ole's, one that appears to be reaping rewards. "I have spent a lot of time talking to Luke. He's a guy I like talking to, love helping him. He wants to improve." Solskjaer : "J'ai passé beaucoup de temps à parler à Luke. C'est un garçon avec qui j'aime parler, j'aime essayer de l'aider. il veut être meilleur." #MUFC pic.twitter.com/kBGO87aFQ5— Manchester United (@MUnitedFR) January 19, 2021
Not taking anything away from Luke but it helps that Trent and Robertson play on the same team - ie their team attacks down both flanks, we are almost exclusively attacking on Shaw's flank AND he takes most corners. Still, for someone who hasn't had a lot of creation in the past, this is tremendous and should be celebrated.
Who is this guy? After two and a half years out of the picture, an England recall will follow and from what we’re seeing I think he’s England’s best bet for the left back slot at the Euros this summer #eng #mufc https://t.co/afa5pXnXp2— James Ducker (@TelegraphDucker) March 8, 2021 z

José Mourinho in 2017: "I was making every decision for him. He has to change his football brain"Luke Shaw in 2020/21: created more chances (55) than any other defender in the Premier League."He crawled through a river of s*** and come out clean the other side..." https://t.co/6ObF0MGY6w— Squawka (@Squawka) April 11, 2021
An aspect of his game that never gets love in statistics is his ball progression, interplay and press resistance. 3 or more times a game, he'll get put in a situation where the only option is to hit it long or put it out of play. A couple seconds later, Luke is galloping away from 2 confused defenders. WIthout fail!
Interplay, ball progression has been a feature of his play even when he was committing unforced mistakes but if you look back at his career from Poch Hodgson Mou everyone had one issue with Luke thats not working hard on his fitness. He is fitter now and has improved his overall game specially crossing and decision making in final third before he was mostly shooting at shin with little awareness of his team mates.
Shawberto Carlos Luke Shaw on being called ‘Shawberto Carlos’: “I’ll be honest I’ve seen some things on it on social media and sometimes in my group chats my mates send me some stuff and I just laugh about it! I can’t be compared to him, he was unbelievable!” #mulive [mu]— utdreport (@utdreport) April 13, 2021
