Shaw signs for United Manchester United is delighted to announce the signing of Luke Shaw from Southampton Football Club. He joins on a four-year contract with an option to extend for a further year. Shaw, 18, recently gained his third cap for England and was the youngest player to feature in this year’s World Cup campaign. The left-back has made 67 appearances for Southampton since making his debut in 2012. Luke Shaw said: "I am thrilled and excited to be joining Manchester United. I have been at Southampton since I was eight years old and I would like to thank them and the fans for everything they have done for me. I want to continue to progress my career and joining United is the ideal place for me to do that. I am looking forward to this new chapter in my life and also looking forward to learning from the world-class players and management at the club." Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs said: "Luke is a very talented young left-back with great potential. He has developed immensely during his time at Southampton and has all the attributes to become a top player. I am delighted he has joined Manchester United as I believe this is the right club for him to continue his development as a young player and eventually fulfil that promise." http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-F...e=twitter&utm_medium=post&utm_campaign=ManUtd
Overpaid to be sure, but overall pretty happy. Am really interested to see if Evra ups his game with some rotation and some competition. Either way, he can mentor Shaw.
I complained about the price initially, but ******** it. We have what we want. 2 quick deals, and both should have a full pre season. Very important.
Do "chances created" mean "successful crosses"? Because if so, Baines was significantly less successful on average than Evra. Also, if as Teso asked, this includes set-piece delivery, it all combines to support the notion argued here last season, that Baines is a "quantity over quality" crosser. As we saw at the World Cup, he truly is nothing special when it comes to defending either.
but we knew that already. i've always said he only ever gets praised for attacking traits. you never hear him praised for anything defensive, it is always crosses or FKs
Why you think we cringed every time we heard best fullback in the league, Bayern wanted him, one of the better fullbacks in Europe thing that kept going on.

One cant get a 30 goal striker for that anymore. Unless, hes in the last year of his contract, over 30, a head case, or a crock. In other words, he has big question marks.
Very happy with this. Sure we overpaid, but the rules meant he was always going to attract a premium given his age. He isn't the finished article yet and will make mistakes, but not seen an 18 year old as close to the real deal as him. Happy with Evra's contribution overall but he has been poor defensively the past few years - so many goals we concede come down his side. So the bar is set fairly low for Shaw. Rio showed that sometimes a big investment in a relative youngster will pay in the long term. Hope that turns out to be the case with LS. Wing backs are also becoming more important in the modern game esp under LVG system, LS will need to improve his final ball, but he is already looking pretty solid defensively. Did a good job on Januzaj at the end of the season.
This is one of those signings which will either end up a great success or a massive loss - no middle way after we broke the records for both the most expensive fullback (or joint most depending on Coentrao) and the most expensive teenaged defender in one go.
I'm happy with Shaw. Evra will be an interesting comparison for him. Paddy has been poor defensively of late, but he's also had weaker CBs next to him, a CM less capable of controlling the game all while expecting to be our main outlet for the majority of our games on his wing. He also played 50 games a season. There was no way he could do that without help. If we keep Evra, which we should, both Shaw and Evra will benefit from having a capable backup.
