yes and no. He can be good near Kroos/Vitinha/Pedri type of player. But when he must be the main guy - he is not good enough.

I see absolutely no qualities in Fede in the three players you mentioned. Those players crave, demand the ball and will play passes that are difficult with a high completion rate.

    Fede is the exact opposite.

He was good when Kroos/Lukita was here, he added something, but when he must be main creator - of course he lacks quality.

Right, he was the engine to cover for Kroos and Modric to a certain extent. But those two are gone and he’s thinking he’s Kroos/Modric, which he isn’t.

Jude, Fede and Tchoumeni isn’t a MF that works. We’ve seen the sample size enough.

He probably thinks he can Xabi when he is the Khedira.

The current midfielders can't really pass to break the lines of pressure. Hence why the team struggles when pressed high. The guys we have are very good at carrying the ball, but uncomfortable playing longer passes consistently, which is why they are so easy to push back.

Which is why his best position is now RWB - allows him to get forward but also in defence. We’ve seen how limited he is in midfield.

    Fede was a top midfielder

let’s not rewrite history because we are in a negativity party

He had others next to him making him look good in terms of the midfield. He had nothing to worry about. Not really a coincidence when they left, he’s been badly exposed.

He is a top player with a great skillset, but he hasn't find his place in midfield yet. Arguably his best seasons with us have been the Zidane years and the early Carlo years when he was a RW.

He was and is “the engine room” of a midfield. Not a conductor but the player that does the dirty work and we have that in Tchou so why also have Valverde too?

Reminds me when we used to play Emerson and Diarra together under Capello

He’s stalled a bit recently and maybe even regressed in a few aspects, being played in different positions doesn’t help.

Totally different player but Kroos had a similar dip for a few years then he turned it up before retiring. Hoping it’s a small dip for Fede and can take it up a notch soon.

He is like Gerrard when Liverpool had Gerrard, Mascherano and Xabi. He can tackle, drive forward and get goals. He can’t dictate the play.

We don’t have a passer which is why everyone in the midfield looks like crap. Bellingham doesn’t want to do the Xabi role where he sits in position and gives absolutely everyone else the ball asap. And Arda is a good passer but for the final ball, not the buildup.

So we have 3 Gerrards in Jude, Fede and Arda, plus probably Nico next summer lol. England only tried fitting 2 in one team in Lampard and Gerrard, good luck to us lol.

I don’t think they are all Gerrards, but the midfield recipe needs one special ingredient and a good chef.

Right now we are full of labor "grunts" without a "manager".

Fede is an amazing midfielder, but he has to have a specific setup to thrive in.

You’re right, we have no one to dictate play, control tempo and pass the ball. They’re all hard tackling runners.

How I hate this whole thing about dictating play etc. The rose-tinted glasses opinions when looking back at Kroos makes me gag.

We just lost to Albacete. Our issues are beyond a midfielder to "dictate play" or moaning about Perez not signing a centre back.

Having midfielders who have different roles is normal in a squad.

If we had a Kroos type player, we’d probably be playing better

No, we've had Kroos in the team and played bad. Our issues are down to attitude, motivation and management.

Camavinga is somehow de-devoloping at an alarming pace..I'm guessing he remains a 'raw talent' for several years to come

I don't see us bringing a midfielder + Paz and keeping all of Bellingham, Valverde, Guler, Tchouameni and Camavinga.

Then again, this is Perez's house and his squad planning leaves so much to be desired, our legendary midfielders were all pushed by our former coaches: Modric (Mourinho), Kroos (Ancelotti) and Casemiro (Benitez).

Yep, we did play “bad” with Kroos but we won 5 CLs in 10 years with him and Modric at the helm.

Never in a million years did I imagine that Fede Valverde would be someone to sulk because he doesnt get to play in his favorite position due to circumstances, doesnt put maximum effort on the pitch and in training, and eventually joins a mutiny against any coach, let alone Xabi Alonso. If he had any sense he would have been his idol.

And all of this from the position of captain. Just wow. I used to respect this guy despite his obvious flaws as a player. Big headedness seems to spread like wildfire in this team.

the attitude in the locker room is terrible... coaches have no authority in there , no one respects them..

you think he would say this under Zidane or mourinho. Mourinho would bench him or use him as sub only to remove him in 10 mins or send him to train with the reserves.

You just answered you own question though didn't you? It's not about the players, it's about the conductor of the orchestra and those that lead alongside him.

Players often know better than their coaches, that's a truth.
