Pretty standard Special One behavior, casually trashing a young player to poke a thumb in the eye of a rival manager, complain about not getting enough transfer budget, and generally make excuses for himself. Bryan probably shouldn’t take it too personally.
The full quote by Mourinho on Bryan Reynolds (presumably at Roma's post-match press conference): Reynolds nel finale? “Karsdorp era morto. Aveva i crampi. Questi ragazzi devono crescere a poco a poco, però è così. Anche questo è bello”. The English translation for the key part that I got from Roma's Reddit forum (the part about Reynolds, not the part where Mourinho is whining about his squad): Bryan has potential, but he's a little boy. There's a ball where we are on the lead 2-1 and he's the reason for the (quick) throw-in. He should have put the ball where the Friedkin were, instead he gifted a throw in. Those are things the boys have to learn. https://www.vocegiallorossa.it/inte...rtita-numero-1-000-con-un-i-ko-i-video-214710 As I mentioned yesterday, Cristante in particular was having some really angry reactions towards Reynolds in stoppage time.
But he will get 7 minutes at the end and Jose will complain about having to put him in because Roma doesn't have the funds of Chelsea
He's from Fort Worth, Texas. As someone else up thread mentioned but since I'm from Fort Worth I have to say it again. None of which makes Mourinho less of an asshole.
Anyone trying to watch this on Paramount+? I am being offered every match except for this one. Damnit, I'm paying good money to watch Reynolds sit on the bench - show it to me!
Yeah, I don't think they have every match available. With so many Yanks in CL, EL, and ECL, it will be annoying.
It's hilarious, I hear pundits talking about something good happening at Roma, winning 5 out of 5 to start the Mourinho era. It is as if they haven't seen the last 5 jobs he's had. This is what happens, he comes in, everything is light and rosy, and he's the players best friend. Then they start losing or drawing nil nil, he plays uber defensive, the players get irritated, he blames them, their poor training and their girlfriends hair, and then the wheels come off. It's not if, but when. I'm not sure why the pundits still have any doubts about this guy?
Mourinho is now complaining Roma did not play well enough despite winning 5-1. He is easy not to like.
Put me in the minority that thinks playing under a defensive specialist coach who is fanatical about positioning and tactics like Mourinho will be good for a kid who has a lot of physical talents but who last year looked a mess tactically. Bryan is still young enough that even if he barely plays this year he is still on track. We shouldn't expect every teenager that signs with a big team to get a ton of minutes before they hit 22-23.
tough love is great, being frozen out completely since the manager has you already gone in january is not
He hasn't gotten many minutes, but "frozen out completely" is not consistent with the season so far. That said, I don't have high hopes for lots of minutes this year for Reynolds, as long as Mourinho is his coach.
Yeah, I think a few months of this, or possibly even one season is fine, but he needs to be playing regularly pretty soon. Can’t maximize your development through practice, and at 21-22 you’re not really a youth player anymore.
Rooting for a January loan for the kid. Until then, keep nose clean and do your time (even if the coach gives you no chance). Let's face it, Mourinho is gone as soon as he can rehabilitate himself (some) and can snag a bigger job. Meaning one season, if all goes according to his plan. Barring huge amount of injuries..we are not going to see Reynolds
So….. not looking great for him in Roma. Ridiculous he didn’t move on loan this summer. Jose playing a 20 year old American?!? No way Bryan Reynolds did not dress for Roma today -- who lost 3-2 to Verona. He was left in the stands, replaced by 19-year-old Filippo Tripi, a Roma academy product who captained their youth teams. Mourinho showed him a ton of praise prior to the match. pic.twitter.com/a7JSXN88ct— USMNT Only (@usmntonly) September 19, 2021
