5 matches left, he should get at least one to end the season and having 4 appearances in Serie A at 19 ain't too shabby for a Yank!
And it ain't 4 apps for Cagliari or Spezia, it's Roma for crying out loud. We were all signing from the mountaintops when Bradley got a sniff at Roma a few years back. Now we're pretty muted about the whole thing.
It's often easy to forget how young these guys are. I was a dumb, dumb kid at 19. If I had the money and lifestyle Reynolds has at 19 I would've been even dumber. I think he's done enough to consider this first season a success and seems primed for further success next season. It seems not a matter of if but when he'll put it all together.
5 or 6 years ago this would be the biggest Yank Abroad story. Now it's way down the list. It's like the floodgates have finally openend and 1) European scouts now know Americans can play and 2) MLS understands how they can make money selling players.
Agreed, re: MLS. You can really stabilize the bottom line of an entity like MLS with a couple of significant transfers out per year. The good thing about MLS right now is that they seem to have their youth development game in order to replace those that are leaving. Every week I hear about another new name who is relatively young and making his mark in the senior squads and garnering some interest abroad. The challenge in selling marquee names (Aaronson/Dike) is that you need to make sure you are not damaging the product by doing so, and it seems that currently, MLS is still as an entity a pretty adequate product even without some of the names that have left.
not submitted in the squad so ineligible https://www.uefa.com/uefaeuropaleague/clubs/50137--roma/squad/
Isn’t there some way we can warp this around to say he wasn’t good enough to be included on the squad before he was eligible to be included on the squad and needs to be loaned out?
Doesn't seem like he'll be missing out on playing in a final, after today. Five unanswered goals by Manchester's second-best to lose 6-2. Two road goals briefly sounds really good, though.
I believe they are not permitted to choose him. I guess FIFA didn't want January transfer season to turn into a bidding war between UCL KO 16 looking for a silver bullet.
Nor is Serie A what it used to be. Serie A needs some some serious TV contracts in order to try to keep up with EPL. Juventus et al are in serious trouble trying to keep with the "Big 6" EPL teams.
To get the tv contracts they need consumers. Outside of Inter and Juve, there isn’t a ton of star power pulling in the neutral eyeballs like there are in the EPL. I watch a lot of football and I couldn’t’ begin to guess which teams are even in the Serie A right now outside of the usual suspects. They are going to struggle to get big money from tv until they spend the money to bring in some star power.
Reynolds didn't play in a meaningless game that Roma lost anyway. Not a good omen for his future there.
