A little sentence thrown in the USSF DA player of the year awards regarding Weston. He's a very different type of player to Pulisic, so any comparison doesn't make much sense. High ceiling, but its early. http://www.ussoccerda.com/2016-EOY-Awards The central midfielder and YNT regular (6 call-ups in 2015-16) scored 12 goals during the regular season and recently signed a professional contract with Germany's FC Schalke 04.
The evidence continues to mount........... Weston McKennie no longer listed as part of UVA's recruiting class: https://t.co/1ABLs8Tyc6— Travis Clark (@travismclark) July 18, 2016
Not surprising, considering he is not yet 18: Trouble brewing: I’m now told U.S. Soccer's release was premature, and this deal isn’t yet done. https://t.co/5uptAbsZqy— Will Parchman (@WillParchman) July 21, 2016
Weston also said it isn't true lol his birthday is at the end of August so I guess we'll have to play the waiting game
I think this is an example of some lackey at the USSF reading Big Soccer! I knew my Schalke rumor, based on a very flimsy twitter exchange, was going to make it! Hearing Weston McKennie deal with Schalke isn't finalized. U-18 star did go to Germany, but FC Dallas contract still possibility.— Brian Straus (@BrianStraus) July 21, 2016
Some highlights from yesterday's Ruhr Cup. They're only 40 minute matches so limited action. https://streamable.com/c49o
Today is his birthday. He's telling people (including FCD teammates) on Twitter things like "see you soon" or "see you in a few months" so I'm assuming he's definitely going to Schalke, it's only a matter of when it's announced.
Shock of all shocks... he has signed with Schalke: U.S. U20 Captain Weston McKinnie from FC Dallas signed with Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga this morning. https://t.co/B3anP8M3Gf— Steven Willis (@TheStevenWillis) August 30, 2016

The 18-year old midfielder will be playing with the U-19s for now. McKennie has been playing with the U.S. U-20 national team and spending time training with Schalke all summer. FC Dallas made a big push to sign him (he was also committed to attend the University of Virginia), but the allure of Europe proved to be too strong. "I'm really looking forward to Germany and Schalke 04," says the 18-year-old. "I really want to establish as a professional in Europe. For that I'll give everything every day. "

Schalke U19 won 2-1 vs Dortmund U19 in the A-Junior edition of the Revierderby. McKennie given very positive reviews by folks over on the Schalker-Block 5 forum: https://www.schalker-block5.de/index.php?thread/43560-u19-saison-2016-2017/&pageNo=14 Notable quotes: "McKennie easily won every aerial duel. Such a beast in the air. Unbelievable." "McKennie and Goller I would also emphasize with having a strong team performance" "Weston McKennie: Reminded me of Neumann last year in the Derby, the duel a world power, since his opponents barely dared to play against him. . Very strong game he had"
Whenever the literary German dives into a sentence, that is the last you are going to see of him till he emerges on the other side of his Atlantic with his verb in his mouth. Mark Twain.
Weston went off injured against Bielefield in the u-19 match on Sunday. Apparently his absence was significant. McKennie has been a strong addition to their U-19 team it seems. He's seen as a leader and a very influential player. Disappointing that he got injured but let's hope it was nothing too serious.
