Not surprising you are confused - seems both Australia and New Zealand have "league" problems at the moment. The NSL (which is Australian but includes a NZ team) has been ended and a new comp will start ... well, eventually. NZ is in a similar situation IIRC.

So, maybe the Tahitian League and Pirae or Ba in the Fijian League. Or maybe the WNSL and the ACTAS Canberra Eclipse. :)

We (Australia & New Zealand) have FINALLY got our act together! Kicking off in 2005 we will have the Australian Premier League: a hybrid of the J-League, EPL & MLS with 8 new teams, 2 being Perth Glory & Adelaide United.

New Zealand also have an 8 team Premier League and that is going to kick off very soon, October i am sure.

In the mean time between now and September 2005 the ASA have announced an interim league for the entities to participate in. The winner of that qualifies for the WCC in Japan.

The new league is modelled on the seperate-entity status of the EPL. The mentality and tactics in approaching the new league is similar to MLS, where it is competing with other, more popular professional sports despite a huge amateur player base. The goal is to create a J-League type structure - highly corporatised and very lucrative, with an ability to keep Australia's better players at home, as an alternative to 2nd-tier European leagues.

OK, thanks Ceasar. Something unique that comes directly from the tried and true.

Yes that is what i was going to say! :D
why not use the best of these leagues and in the future (40 years) it can be up there as the best structured league.

lol at 40 years comment. I do agree with taking a bit from different sources to make a good league. None of this X-Gamesish visual stuff on the jerseys. True, MLS is better than in '96, but still not quite up to par.

But as far as Oz, are they set to start about the same time aas NZ's new league does?

i heard an interim league for October 2004 and a September 2005 kickoff for the APL.

apart from that it is all rumours of teams apart from Perth & Adelaide
