LOL, just for heck of it on Friedrich from Google AI.
What Friedrich lacked in crossing ability, he made up for in pure defensive metrics. He was an exceptional aerial duelist, highly physical, and an intelligent tackler. In the 2010 World Cup, Joachim Löw moved Friedrich back to his preferred centre-back position alongside Per Mertesacker. This partnership shut down some of the best offenses in the world, including a legendary performance pocketing Lionel Messi in a 4-0 quarter-final win over Argentina (where Friedrich also scored his only international goal).

Friedrich was a quiet, reliable leader who rarely made catastrophic mistakes. Managers like Löw valued his work rate and consistency over individual brilliance. In tournament football, eliminating errors in the knockout stages is often more valuable, making Friedrich a foundational piece of Germany's tournament DNA.

you know who else fit rarely made catastrophic mistakes=Howedes, another nothing special player who played WC14 XI as a false LB, LMAO, even Argentinian Draxler failed to score while playing vs a a fake LB, LMAO. Hilarious how Argentinian Draxler failed to score against Germany in 3 out 3 WCs while facing Defending players whos quality he would usually destroy at club level, LULZ. I mean fun fact Friedrich NEVER EVER played CL, LMAO.

does anyone see any of this from any of the current CBs always in XI.....

I find our CBs due to possession footy have become almost irrelevant in aerial duals, they have the physique but more often then not don't use it much and tackling and aggression isn't always there.

who recalls Rudiger saying this about WC22
"We're back to square one. That's the hard reality! A lot of talent, all well and good, but there are other things that go into it. This last greed, this something dirty, we miss that. We are a very, very nice team!"

then in EC24, he admitted that Germany lacked the ruthlessness, the never say attitude and grit to grind results that Real Madrid has.

DAMN, what a CLOWN, LMAO. Admits that the D lacks greed and aggressiveness why the ******** would you be nice anyways, LULZ. Yeah these players just play worse in NT....

At least one who's goal doesn't get ruled out due to a "foul" (Tah against Paraguay) ;)

Actually our corners need to be worked on so we generate these opportunities for our CBS.

Could we see Bischof take Goretzka's place at Bayern and for the NT?

Tom Bischof: "I want to take the next step now. In midfield, Pavlo, Jo Kimmich and I push each other every day. Everyone wants to play, which makes all of us better and ultimately benefits the whole team. I definitely believe I'm ready for that role." "I've said it many times: you join FC Bayern because it's a dream and because you can win titles here. As a team, we achieved that exceptionally well. We stuck together incredibly well throughout last season and had a really outstanding campaign." For me personally, it was a very good season because I learned a lot, developed further, and played in different positions. That helps me for my future career. Now, of course, I hope it gets even better and that I win even more titles"

Rudy Regen, both emerged from Hoffenheim to Bayern and to NT.

we won CC17 with Rudy too!!!!

still laugh how you know who trashed Bischof as garbage and how he wont make it as a pro because hes not a W and according to him AM=obsolete position.........ignoring that Bischof was always more of a M, played attacking positions when younger because he has the dribbling and ball skills but never meant that it was his main position. Once he saw the very high #s in terms of defensive skills that Bischof had he changed his whole tune, LMAO.

Germany conceded 5 goals in 4 games in WC26, thats rubbish if the GOAT was playing we would have had clean sheets in every game.

the GOAT with him we won 2 out of 3 tourneys he played in and if bum Gomez wasnt injured would have been 3 out of 3!!!!

What a devastating header that was!!! And two years before that Hummels with the winning goal v France. There'll be times when your attackers failed to find the net. And suddenly your defender become your saviour with a clutch goal! Remember some of the semi final goal decider ; Thuram(1998), Puyol(2010), and Umtiti(2018).

I think Honigstein does a good job of debunking the Lahm rhetoric.

The reality is that the 2014 side that actually won the world cup played a hybrid of Cruyff positional football and more traditional german counter game. The Heynckes blend was probably about perfect. I agree that it makes a lot of sense if a consistent national style can be developed, but the idea it's currently too spanish is strange to me. Only Bayern really plays true positional football, and they play a hyper modern version of it based on the ideas of Rene Maric and Kompany. Especially I don't see why Germany would have advantages playing defensive, countering football.

The amount of revisionism doing the rounds right now is incredible. During Germany’s best time (2010-2014), Löw OPENLY tried to emulate Spain and in tandem, Bayern re-emerged as an elite side thanks to Louis van Gaal’s Ajax-Barca positional play. (1)

It was all subsequently watered down and lost in the post-Pep years. The problem hasn’t been too much Spanish influence but not nearly enough since. Xabi’s Leverkusen and, in possession, Bayern under Kompany, are the only team with some of those hallmarks. (2)

The rest of the league plays transition football with little regard for positional structure in possession. I wish more coaches would try to play like Spain. (3)

Former players (or those writing their social media posts) seem to hark back to a mythical age of hard-running, hard-tackling 11 Briegels on the pitch but I’d happily trade them all for one Toni Kroos and more coaches trying to control games WITH the ball. (4/end)

I think issue is more akin that we don't have the players for anything, LMAO.
1-we don't have the players for possession footy. Reality Kimmich is just a terrible M, don't care about Bayern for Germany. What I mean is REAL quality in M to play REAL dominant possession footy. To real be dominant you need more than that. I feel like Pavlovic is ONLY one that is usable for such a role from current Ms. I tend to think Nmecha is decent but never long term option.

nevermind the obsession with Kimmich+Goretzka combo, LOL. When Bayern won CL, Goretzka was in M with Thiago and Kimmich was RB they didn't play together and it never worked well either.

speaking of Pavlovic when he emerged at Bayern in CL vs Real Madrid where Real Madrid dominated Bayern in SF Leg 2, Pavlovic and Musiala were the ONLY + from entire Bayern team that played that day from XI. Rest of team went invisible and felt like they didn't belong on XI, LOL.

2-if one notices Germany USED to play with what we had back in 2000s era. In that era we lacked the players to really dominate that style so we mostly played more attacking and more typical German mentality combination and it worked WELL.

3-when we finally got the required players with required skill set then it worked out. We needed the Kroos, Gundo, Khedira, Basti etc combos to really dominate. Thats what allowed us to Win WC14, it was M dominance mixed in with effective attack.

4-once those guys started to retire the NT also went downwards because the coaches REFUSED to back down from possession footy and go back to #2, PLAY WITH WHAT YOU HAVE.

5-Look at EC24, we went head to head with Spain and could have won the match with the usage of Kroos and Gundo and once those 2 went away we went downwards again.

6-hilariously under Low (post EC16), Flick, Nagelsmann not only did they insist on possession footy while not having required players they also didn't bother to even have players suitable for more attacking footy either. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:Whether false 9 BS, lack of fast attackers, lack of dribbling players etc. Essentially we have been a HUGE NOTHING NT for 10 years, LMAO.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

7-Now to end this post with a more upbeat note.
the next Gen Ms that we mention, yeah those kids do have that potential to take Germany back into REAL possession dominance if well used. The skillset is clearly there. Not only that but they actually have the potential to really push Germany into a hybrid possession/attacking style of play because they also have attacking skillset and also defensive skillset too, more complete potential Ms. Not only that but if one adds the next gen AM/W+CF also looking like more potential then ever is emerging. The Main question mark is more like how long until we can fully utilize them, LOL. Hopefully we see more and more of them starting Fall 2026 and increase the # as we move along timeline.

I'm not sure if this type is even in the German player pool, but I would like a true DM. Someone who really wins a lot of duels and is physically imposing, great at screening the backline. An Andrich, Frings type dirty work player. I think that kind of player would open things up for the rest of the midfield, even if he doesn't have as big of a name as the other players.

In any event the 2010-14 era is what Germany should be trying to emulate IMO. Otherwise we are talking 1990 and i just don’t think that era is relevant anymore.

I think initially we do a 2010 emulation and once more and more next gen players emerge we try to transition to more 2014. I like idea of more 2010 style for 2028 EC, as first tourney, push door for loads of youngsters to get that 1st tourney experience.

a significant aspect about 2010 was that it was a REHAUL of Germany.
all of those late 90s-early 00s basically retired BY END of EC08. Outside of Klose, Lahm, Basti, Podolski, Per, Friedrich and we brought in loads of next gen youngsters to fill in the squad. So basically come WC10, only 6 players were leftover from the 90s-early 00s players.

I suspect between 33%-50% of squad will likely be leftover players. Still better than Nagelsmann, LOL. But after EC28 the #s of leftover will only decrease.

even better 2002, GRIND OUT EVERY GAME!!!!
could be best way to regain the German mentality and German traits that have been MIA for like a decade.:p:D

It's not my intent to go back to 1990. But I do think Germany have not been good on defence for a long time. When I look at other top international teams, they do not concede the kinds of silly goals Germany consistently concedes. It's very difficult to win tournaments when your only option is to always score 2+ goals in regular time to win matches, regardless of if your opponent is a good offensive side. Curaçao's only goal in the WC came against Germany, same with Ecuador. I think that one thing Klopp will have to do is instill a defensive identity that can prevent us from conceding against teams we have no business conceding goals against. That Paraguay match could have been a hard-fought 1-0 victory, no shame in that against a team with a permanent low block. But instead it was 1-1 because Germany cannot keep clean sheets against anyone and then we lose on a penalty crapshoot. And that may involve, as I said above, putting more defensive utility players in midfield. I don't have all the answers, but I do think we have to figure it out.

Sure - Klopps liverpool sides were defensively good. Of course he had a generational centre back, and then stacked the midfield with destructive players. They also tended to have a very good press.

One thing about international football is germany are likely to see a lot of the ball against the 'smaller' sides. So there does have to be some plan to use it well. Against Paraguay, the team seemed to lack any idea beyond give it to Wirtz to lump it in the box.

Indeed. I think the trouble is that Karl was sort of the piece that would tie everything together in attack. You'd build around an attack headlined by Karl and Wirtz's adept combination play. with Musiala being able to sort of ease into things being out of form and slowly re-building his game from the leg break. But then Karl got hurt, and Nagelsmann was incredibly loyal to Leroy for some reason. Leroy would do pretty much nothing all tourney aside from cut inside, lose the ball, and back pass. And Musiala was consistently neutralized by the big physical 6s at the 10 spot, which leaves Wirtz as pretty much the only AM that can do something constructive. I personally would have like to have seen a young dynamic player like El Mala be called up and leave Leroy out of the side altogether, but that's obviously not in the cards.

because Nagelsmann is a bum who seems to dislike so many players, LOL. How does Sane who doesnt impress in Turkey even get called up anyways.....worst part is his shamelessness of shitting on players.

according to most reports, Klopp was perplexed that Nagelsmann left out Ouedraogo and El Mala PRE-TOURNEY. Of course Ouedraogo got called up when Karl got injured but he wasn't initially called up.

Here are some posts about how Klopp sees things

1-Klopp refers to the next generation – with El Mala
The early elimination of the German team ensured that a general debate about the future of the national team broke out just a few minutes after the embarrassment against Paraguay. And one name that keeps coming up is Said El Mala. Why? Because he wasn't there.

Jürgen Klopp also mentioned El Mala's name Magenta TV shortly after the game. According to Klopp, there were „several players who were not there for different reasons“ who would now come into focus. And then he named El Mala, Tom Bischof and Lennart Karl. Yann Bisseck and Jonas Urbig, two other players with an FC past, also came up in the discussion.
    https://geissblog.koeln/2026/06/neuer-bundestrainer-juergen-klopp-redet-schon-von-said-el-mala

2-Klopp: German football has talent; we must create manageable expectations for players
Klopp, who is set to become the German national team coach, believes that despite the team’s early exits from the FIFA World Cup three times in a row, the future of German football remains promising.

Klopp told MagentaTV during the FIFA World Cup final between Spain and Argentina: "We were runners-up at the U21 European Championship, and the U17s won both the FIFA World Cup and the European Championship in 2023. We have talent."

At the same time, Klopp demanded: "We must create expectations that players can handle. The game needs to feel free for players to perform at their best. They shouldn't always feel: 'We're not good enough, we can't satisfy anyone.'"

Klopp also said that a unified "development language" is crucial for a better future, admitting: "I can't even say whether this has already been achieved."

However, the reality is that full-time coaches have long been assigned to youth development performance centers at all levels. Klopp said: "But if you sit there at 8 AM, and the kids come to practice after school at 4 PM, you won't say: Just play casually now. You'll have 10 ideas, 20 ideas. There will definitely be over-coaching, not everywhere, but it does exist."

Klopp believes the most appropriate approach to youth training is: "Play, play, play." He also said: "We must get children into sports, and then get children who love sports into football. This is not for tomorrow, but for the future." Klopp will be responsible for shaping that future.
    https://m.allfootballapp.com/news/B...e-manageable-expectations-for-players/4853168

woah there, why does this clown think Germany has talents. According to DFB, Germany has 0 talents, incoming doomsday, terrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrible age groups, minnows catching up (they arent, LOL) etc. Your NOT allowed to contradict THIS from DFB!!!!!!!

obligatory shitting on DFB aside, Klopp just missed Germany U19 2nd place this month too!!!
