Didn't he drop out of Utah State Uni after just 1 semester? If so, those must have been some real powerfully woke classes he took to convert him from a wholesome Mormon boy into a raging LGBT-loving antifa woke terrorist! Makes you wonder how anyone can escape such a mega-liberal town like Logan, Utah with their conservative values intact!* *The guy I was best man for and his wife both graduated from Utah State. Let's just say they are still extremely conservative Christians. The last time I visited them they, coincidentally enough, had James Dobson's Focus on the Family radio program on loud speaker where he just so happened to be talking about how evil gay people are. I haven't heard from them since (at least as far as I remember; it was over 20 years ago now).
99% of people think Sling TV is cable. There *is* a Sling package that doesn't have Fox News. Unfortunately, when you pay for FS1, FS2 and FS+, it's going to the same corporation as Fox News.
on a Halloween-related note, Ron DeSantis amplifies false claim about math teachers’ Halloween costumes. This is making the rounds that the Arizona teachers (and school) were mocking Charlie Kirk's death. They are really getting a lot of heat for this costume. The snag? The math department for this high school wore the coordinated outfits in previous years. It's some kind of running tradition that is separate and unassociated from Charlie Kirk
We could take a plank from Jello's 1979 SF mayoral run. At the time, Biafra's platform, which he wrote on a napkin while attending a Pere Ubu show, included planks such as: - Requiring businessmen to wear clown suits within city limits - Holding elections in which police would be voted into office by the neighborhoods they patrolled - Tearing down Pier 39 - Legalizing squatting in vacant, tax-delinquent buildings - Paying the unemployed to panhandle in wealthy neighborhoods - Banning cars citywide, and - Erecting a statue of Dan White (who assassinated former Mayor George Moscone and Sup. Harvey Milk the previous year) and having the parks department sell eggs, stones, and tomatoes with which to pelt it.
I moved to SF in the summer of 1979 to attend Art School. I had a friend who lived in Daly City and I stayed with him on a quick trip to find an apartment before moving up permanently -- as it turns out, the night I got there was the night of the White Riot. My parents were none too happy with my decision but to their credit they didn't try to stop me. That was an amazing summer. The White Riot was the source of the DKs first album cover IIRC.
Something I learned quite recently was that the Mekons' "Never Been In A Riot" was a response to the Clash's "White Riot". Also, check out this dumb bot's attempt to decipher the lyrics. You can almost see the moment it gives up: https://genius.com/Mekons-never-been-in-a-riot-lyrics
I was living in Berkeley then. Girlfriend’s mom came to town to visit, and took us to see the SF Symphony on the night of the riot. When concert was over, we walked past Civic Center Plaza to get to the BART station to take the train back to Berkeley. The riot was starting to kick off, and girlfriend’s mom wanted to stay and watch! I managed to convince her that it was better not to hang around.
