Lyon really could not hold it together at the end of this one. Such a bummer. The bench/staff was no help either in keeping them cool and helping kill off the tie. Game winner at 90 + 5 after RC (2YC) at 90 + 3. Yuck, plus Marseille would have stayed top with a Lyon tie.
Tessman's flub about 1:40. Lyon's cheeky goal was beautiful. Marking/challenge on the IT corner was terrible. Just soft as can be (not TT - Maitland-Niles)
I tuned in to watch the last 15 minutes, and was kind of surprised to see Tessmann playing centerback in a 4 man back line. He looks solid at this point in a 0-0 game
Guess the scoring streak is over... Meanwhile, Lyon cling to the last "hope for Euro-Zone" spot, but Lille are 1 pt behind and have to play Paris FC and can screw up everything if they grab any points. Monaco has dropped to 8th iirc. Marseille in 2nd by 2, but have better GD than PSB atm. Toulouse still safely but boringly mid-table.
Tessmann starts! Lyon playing Maccabi Tel Aviv at a neutral stadium, in a Europa League match. On my schematic, Tessmann is playing RCB in a back four.
Paul Kennedy on X: "Tessmann at CB in 3 in the back. Lyon wins 6-0 over Maccabi Tel Aviv. Touched the most balls … over 100. “Sober” and “efficient.” Per L’Équipe. Win moves #OL into first in Europa League. #USMNT https://t.co/AA4vCpacW5" / X
I normally don't like how much our guys get moved around positionally, but this one makes sense to me. I haven't seen too much of him, but what I've seen says he might find a deeper role is his ideal position. He has good size, is mobile enough for a back 3, and can likely pass out of the back at a high level. I hope they give him a run of games in this position. Worth the experiment.
Seems like he was emergency fill for Mata. He's not supposed to be out for too long, but I haven't seen anything definitive. Doubt he keeps that slot once the Angolan is back.
Tessmann starts! at RCB in a three-CB setup.* Lyon (8th) hosting Nantes (T-16), both teams with a match in hand. Lyon will be T-5th with a victory. Lens is first, btw, PSG second, Marseille third, Marseille having missed a great chance to reach first place. * Perhaps someone can confirm ...
I’m watching it now, and I would say that Tessmann’s passing is even more of an asset out of the back. He’s distributing really well. Lyon is under little pressure though, and he’s hardly been tested on defense, apart from a couple of dead balls, where he seemed in synch with his defensive line.
Thx for watching, was going to do the work but glad you did it first. How was his overall performance?

I think it's kinda interesting they choose to push Hateboer forward to the midfield. The dutchie is not really a CB but neither is (was?) Tessman. Wonder how long Mata is out.
