Reports over the past month or so have suggested they have new sponsorship and owner money. Not 100% sure they fixed it, but what I've seen have suggested they think they're ok. But I'm no expert of course.
A whole bunch of McD's league games went off at the same time today. Tessman started allegedly in the RDM slot of a 4-2-3-1 v Angers 0-0 at HT
TT goes 70, subbed out right before the 2nd Lyonnaise goal as they win 2-0 and stay in the final "some kind of something in Europe" slot on GD.
🚨 OFFICIAL: Olympique Lyon have been relegated to Ligue 2.The club has the possibility to appeal the decision. pic.twitter.com/T4UKbqYQBV— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) June 24, 2025 Does Tessmann leave this summer?
They will have a chance to appeal, but with just a little over a month and a half before the competition is supposed to restart??? its-a-fire-sale.gif
https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2025/lyon-relegated-to-ligue-2-following-dncg-meeting/ Maybe Textor would not appeal and he's "fine" with the decision. If there's enough money coming into the club via the sales of Palace and OL Women, maybe there will be enough cash flow to keep a decent chunk of the current team. There's no doubt some will be sold because of the cash they could garner. But If they could keep a bulk of the team they would probably run away with the Ligue 2 title and bounce back up. As for Tessman (and potentially Turner), I'd wait to see who OL retain before I decide to stay or go. This is definitely a situation to watch...
Put's into perspective how crazy it was that Del Piero, Buffon, Nedved, Trezeguet, Camoranesi, and Zelayeta stayed with Juventus when they went down to Serie A. Capello has blood on his hands for the 2005 and 2006 Champions League campaigns.
Tessmann and Turner [maybe] should just do the year in Ligue 2 and come back up with Lyon. It's not that big a deal for him to spend a year in Ligue 2.
Turner is on EPL wages. Tessman is reportedly on €2.2M per season. You ain’t getting that in Ligue 2.
You are if your contract doesn’t have a clause to reduce wages upon relegation, which a club of Lyon’s stature almost certainly doesn’t have. Also, strong disagree with it not being a big deal to be in Ligue 2 for a year. That league stinks, and Turner and Tessmann both have World Cup ambitions. Those ambitions are DOA if they spend a season in Ligue 2.
Correct. However, this financially situation has been looming for over a year so it wouldn’t be crazy to think any new contracts signed in the 24/25 didn’t have a relegation clause. That would apply to Tessman, if so. Remains to be seen if that’s the case though. Regardless, OL will have to sell some assets and Tessman, considering his age, could be one of those.
Why should I believe he won't be paid his contractual wages? Tessmann literally spent 2023/2024 in Serie B. So what if he spends 2025/2026 in Ligue 2? Olympique Lyon won't ship all it's players. Some will stay and lead them back to Ligue 1. Tessmann could definitely be a part of that.
Unless Lyon got a bit arrogant and didn't include relegation clauses in their contracts (and some clubs have failed to do this). But dump as much salary as you can, sell a high value guy like Almada.
Loans are a thing, too. Always depends on how your finances look and how you feel about your chances of popping back up, but selling under duress then restocking the next year can be a not-excellent strategy if you like the players you bought.
Something tells me he will stay with them in Ligue 2. His playing time went up as the season progressed but he didn’t stand out. Transfer market has him valued at 6 million.
LMAOOOO I wonder if Paulo Fonseca's touchline ban only applies to Ligue 1 or if it extends down in Ligue 2.

Hamburg thought this as well and it took them 7 seasons to return to the Bundesliga. A little different situation as they were relegated due to play. However, HSV were in dire financial straits and had to sell off many players which eventually led to relegation. Many thought they’d bounce right back. Hell, same could be said about Schalke. But arrogance and poor money management has kept them down and it will be a loooooooong while before they are even in contention for promotion. My point is… promotion isn’t guaranteed even if OL retain players.
Damn that's a lot in France right. Seems a lot for a guy who had only success in 2nd division of Italy.
And Juve won Serie B [and tied the league record for points iirc]. Lyon had a 6th place squad... Hamburg/Schalke/Kaiserslautern etc etc did not... they had relegation caliber squads. Lyon, even if this relegation sticks, isn't going to lose every player from their 1st team squad and Tessmann isn't so good/established that he goes in the automatic transfer bin. He's in the might go but could definitely stay and be a piece expected to lead Lyon in Ligue 2 bin.
According to Capology, Tessman is the 13th highest earner for OL. Lacazette is the highest earner at €6M. Tolisso is at €5.5 and then a slew of players between €2-4M.
Like @ArsenalMetro said, a season in Ligue 2 is the end of his World Cup hopes. And Turner's have taken a knock too, though probably a minor one I'd say that is a BFD
