Pretty well. Not a starring performance, but looked like he belonged. Passing, including progressive passing, was good. People challenged him physically, and he could be better on positioning / aggressively getting to the right spot as a d-mid to challenge midfield opponents. Don't expect him to blast into the starting XI, but he's increasing the team's confidence in him.
FWIW he was in the top half of Lyon players in most ratings I saw. Most reports had Lyon quite lucky to win this one.
That should be a good game for Tanner. Johnny is scheduled to start in conf league game today at 1000PST v. Warsaw You can compare the two if you're up for a double feature.
Tessmann not in the squad at all today. He is registered, maybe picked up a knock? Looks like Sage just decided not to bring him. https://sportwitness.co.uk/rangers-...-2-summer-signings-out-of-squad-for-el-clash/
extra-bummer that TT was not in the travel squad as Matic went down the tunnel at 28. No idea if the injury is serious, but a bummer TT was not there to get some minutes.
My French isn’t the best and twitter translate won’t work. appears he was left out of the squad for either behavior or below par play? 1841746665239134254 is not a valid tweet id
My French doesn't exist, but X cooperates with me better "Tanner is experiencing something that others have experienced before him. And behind that, they played, scored and played 90 minutes. So there is not necessarily a tomorrow for that. The idea is not to be in a logic of repression, but rather of performance. Even a player who has a bad match, even a player who arrived late, even a player who has shown that he is not happy, we can expect him to have a good match the next one and that is what we expect." "Play better and you'll get time despite of whatever happened before, nothing personal, just business." Olympics started to look like unmitigated disaster.
This is all happening because my thread title choice got overlooked. Is he more Danny Szetela than Mike Bradley?
Wow, according to BS, Wes has gone from a role model you should avoid emulating to one you should emulate in just a few weeks.
This really was poor timing for Tessmann to get in the dog house. Sage said Matic' injury "we will have to take exams to find out because it seems quite serious." which will open up some space in the midfield if he's out for long. Hope Tanner can work his way back in.
I don't know what the heck that means. Definitely seems performance based and not injury based. I also didn't see where that last quote comes from about nothing personal just business. Was that you just speculating...? My best guess is that the coach is not pleased with Tessman's play but almost seems to exaggerate his poor performance. You can't lock the guy up and throw away the key after a few sub minutes and 67 minutes of a start. He has been there for like 4 weeks. It wasn't even close to that bad of a showing. Really odd and a bit of an overreaction unless we are all missing something in the translation. French accents are really hard to understand let alone speaking and understanding French... maybe Tessman is struggling with instructions.
The confusion is Sage lists 3 things that "could" keep a player out, but doesn't ascribe a specific one to Tessmann: "Même un joueur qui fait un mauvais match, même un joueur qui est arrivé en retard, même un joueur qui a montré qu’il n’était pas content, on peut s’attendre à ce qu’il fasse un bon match le suivant et c’est ce qu’on attend..." My French isn't nuanced enough and the quote is not complete enough to give me a sense of whether Sage thought Tessmann's last outing was a "mauvais match" or if Tanner "n'etait pas content..." or what. Maybe all 3? It's just not clear, but regardless, Sage seems to make it clear it's only temporary if Tessmann plays/trains well - and with Matic out, if he's smart he's there early and staying late.
It's common for a new player, especially somebody young, to take a game or more off after a first start. There's a lot of stuff to go through and work on. There's likely some esoteric stuff going on but it's too hard to explain in a presser so the manager shows up and spouts some generic word salad.
I dunno, I think "We're still integrating Tanner into our system and felt like he was not quite ready for a trip to Ibrox" is a lot easier than the abstract quotes above... but who knows. Could be as simple as "not ready for Glasgow" to "complaining too much about PT so we needed to remind him who makes the line-up" - whatever it was, worked out for Lyon and perhaps Matic's injury works for Tessmann.
