Sounds a lot like the main agent and the intermediary are arguing among themselves, which used to be a common occurrence. It's too late to get a new agent for this window, but when it finally closes it's time to move on someone who can do the damned deals on their own or has strong ties established with a European agency. In the meantime, it's time for Tessmann to bring the hammer down and say "I want deal X to go through. I'm signing. Sort it out between yourselves."
Nicolo Schira is reporting that the total agent's fees that Tanner's camp are requesting comes to €2m. That's like ~30%-35% of the total transfer fee... my understanding is that a normal commission is between 6% and 10% unless it's a massive blockbuster transfer involving a huge star. Absurd ask.
I don't really pay too much attention to the nitty gritty of the transfer business but I have seen things about commissions/agents/sale %s being grumbled about for a while now. Looks like Tessmann is getting the real deal suspect transfer business situation experience.
He's also burned his bridges at Venezia and the new Serie A season begins in less than two weeks. Not the greatest position to be in.
And like other silly season stories, something like this only gets in the press when someone with a press agent or good contacts wants it to. I’d guess it is a message to Tessmann from one of the clubs.
I remember there was a big controversy over whether "Kon Schramm" or "Ron Waxman" (both sound like 100% made-up names but are real people) were Michael Bradley's agent. I think it turned out that Bradley's US agency hired Schramm to look at opportunities on Germany for him. Anyway, having 2 agents is confusing. I think Bradley switched to a European agency soon after. According to this piece, Tessmann's agents are trying to get €2M in commissions from Fiorentina. However, the club's American owner, Rocco Commisso, is not backing down and the deal will only move forward if the agents agree to accept less. https://www.violanews.com/stampa/la...-di-commissioni-rocco-commisso-e-innervosito/
uhhh... Tessmann is apparently trying to fire some of his agents in order to secure the move to Fiorentina: #Tessmann ha chiesto ai suoi agenti di essere liberato per la #Fiorentina— Alfredo Pedullà (@AlfredoPedulla) August 6, 2024
Too many Crooks. This smells a lot like Florence going to the press to let Tanner know his ding-dong agents were screwing him. Smart move if true. Kid shouldn't get screwed because his agents are looking out for themselves first.
Ugh this sucks. Hope he has some good independent lawyers now. The type of "agent" who tries to skim himself a couple of million dollars is definitely going to sue for breach of contract. What a mess.
Other YAs repped by PROSPORT: Joshua Wynder, Sam Rodgers, Erik Palmer-Brown. Hope they're taking notes. Seems to be a serviceable agency for domestic players (Mexicans and Canadians included), but they seem to be out of their depth in Europe.
Will be interesting to see. The fact that they don't seem to be well-traveled in Euro leagues (according to some posts above) suggests they might also not want to get known for blowing deals in the big 5 leagues due to greed either. There's a couple of articles/posts now in Italian saying Tessmann is going to get the deal done without/around the reps/agents. I imagine they are all sourced from the same place, but often in this kind of public situation an intermediary would rather compromise on the fees than get dropped and dragged, esp if they aren't a well-known top rep.
Seems like Tessman has a Confederacy of Dunces at his disposal. I know Italian clubs like to negotiate in the press a bit, but it truly is sounding like his team are trying to look out for themselves instead of their client
Most of the reporting on-line is that it's going to happen, but I have no idea if any of those sites know anything. They seem to be referencing the Pedulla tweet a lot. If, as reported, Venice and Florence have agreed to terms and Tessmann and Florence have agreed, it's pretty dangerous for an agent to kill it over anything beyond customary fees. Opens them to a pretty expensive lawsuit as well. I got no idea what Italian laws are like, or even where/how this kind of dipsute would be heard, but in North America, Tessmann's damage claims, if the deal were to fall through, would be way higher than the agents would be if TT just signs on his own. I can't imagine they don't work it out.
I'm seeing a lot of reporting lately originate with La Nazione, which is a Florence-based newspaper. They follow Fiorentina closely and have their own journalists & sources. With the Serie A beginning in a week and a half it looks very likely to screw the start to his season though.
Yeah, not great that it's tied up this long, that's for sure. The reporting that he's trying to firing them could also complicate things if Florence doesn't want to get caught up in "domestic" battles but it still seems unlikely the reps won't agree to some 100's of thousands rather than blow the whole thing up, unless TT is so pissed he's really trying to cut the out completely now, which could also complicate things. There's also reporting that the Caviglia transfer is on hold till TT is sorted out, which makes sense.
According to TuttoMercato, there is a "decisive" meeting set for this afternoon. Fiorentina are still making TT one of their priorities, but they are not budging on the requested €2m in agent's fees. If an agreement can't be reached, they will start pursuing backups, as they still need to sign two additional midfielders.
I don't know where I got this number from originally, but I had always thought it was standard for agents to get ~10% of the transfer fee as a commission. Is that not right?
I've seen figures that suggest between 6% and 10% is standard, but 10% of this transfer would be roughly €500k - €600k, not €2m.
