Birmingham boasts some serious talent: Tessman, Richards, and the Bellingham brothers!

They'd play him just by virtue of him being one of their most important players regardless if he'd be a loanee

Yeah, if he played through the Serie B campaign, and Inter thinks he's good enough to take a flier on, something pretty weird would have to happen for TT not to be useful to Venice next season.

He became a key starter for them in late ‘22 which coincided w/their revival and eventual promotion 19 months later. He’s one of their top 2 players. They don’t need incentives to play him, they know. A whole bunch of goal contributions (17) since late ‘22 despite playing as a 6 about 60% of the time.

    In theory, 100%.

In practice, Inter is going to believe that all the incentive Venezia will need is that Tanner is a top player for them and they need to avoid relegation. Although, again in practice, if Venezia are either sure to be relegated, or sure to not be relegated, with 5 matches to go, wouldn’t they prefer to prepare for 25-26?

Don’t think anyone is that worried about that scenario because 1. It’s unlikely Venezia have nothing to play for with 5 games to go and 2. That’s only a small minority of games in the grand scheme of things.

A loan back to Venezia should be fine. Tessmann was at the heart of Venezias team the last two seasons and if Venezia want him back on loan its a pretty safe bet he will continue in that way in the 24/25 season.

All great as long as they don't sign a big name / costly player in the same position.

I've heard of loans being structured so that the loan is 'cheaper' the more the player plays (or more expensive the less a player plays). If I invested in a player, I'd want something like that in place to help ensure his development.

As a fan, I just want him to play. If he earns it and beats out the competition (as he has in Serie B), that would be the best.

But, also as a fan, I wouldn't mind if there were additional pressure to play him, especially if Venezia sign another player or two in his position (which I would expect them to do).

Would be a bummer if, after a good campaign, his upcoming season went all "Gio 23-24" or something...

What is unlikely as he was their top player and they have plenty of hole on the roster.

In order to be as up and up as possible and fairminded on this, the level of crazy w/this jump up in club is sort of a diet version of when Barcelona signed Araujo to me. Just out of nowhere and sounds insane. I am happy though, that level of interest, especially since he'll be loaned back out and not be picking up splinters.

I guess I don't understand the advantage for Tessmann to take this deal - wouldn't it be better to play the next season in Serie A, then look at offers in the summer? This seems to be a deal that only has advantages for Inter.

I guess the one advantage is that it is a signing with a top Italian club, but if he doesn't have a good year on loan at Venezia (or even if he does), I highly doubt that Inter will keep him on their roster, much more likely they'd just loan him out somewhere. Yeah, there may be decent money on the table, but it still seems short-sighted to me.

There's probably a little of cachet that comes with being an Inter player on loan at Venezia vs a Venezia player. If he has a not so good season, he still has the Inter "name" to help find a good loan the following year.

FWIW, there are a ton of posts on Twitter in Turkish discussing both Tessman and Rokas Pukstas to Fenerbache. Wouldn't exactly be ecstatic about that move for either. But a team like Fenerbache has decent money they can throw around, plus regular CL or EL football.

I would guess his salary on the books at Inter would be far and above his current salary and any salary he would receive from Bologna, for instance.

I don’t think there’s any way Tessmann makes that move but I could see it from Pukstas if he wanted to play for Mourinho.

Valuation rumored to be around 6.4-7.5 mill in American dollars. That's not bad, more than doubled his valuation from 3 years ago but I kinda expected him to be approaching 10 mill (as in 8-10). Maybe that's part of what this is: trying to turn a quick profit on a guy, buy at 7, sell at 12-15 if possible. Venezia has likely doubled their money if they can complete a sale (although there is a sell on, sounds like he was intiailly sold for somewhere between 3-4 mill+ a piece down the line, 3 summers ago).

Fiorentina and Atalanta now rumored to be interested as well according to multiple sources FWIW.

Would a potential transfer affect his availability for the Olympics? I can't imagine a new club or Tessman would be keen to miss out on part of preseason after a big move up the ladder.

I'd have no issue if it did. Olympics is an amateur tournament and the main benefit is boosting club options for your career. I say that acknowledging that if your club situation is solid, I don't have any issue with participation.

If he gets a solid jump up in tiers and a significant investment in him from a new club, that and the preseason is more important than running around with a bunch of U23s.

Atalanta is also a fairly big step up, they killed, almost killed, a lot of giants this season, in league, Europa and cup.

Apparently Tessman feels the same way we do about the Inter deal. Seems to be more interested in other offers to smaller Serie A sides.

Which team was buying out Tanner's managers contract?
