Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, now global head of football at Red Bull, is emerging as a potential replacement for Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid. (Sport - in Spanish)
A few websites are saying it’s all bollocks. The Spanish (and Italian) have a lot of form for this. A lot. Whether it’s a player or manager, the media gets stuck in and essentially tries to build a narrative. I think I’ve mentioned here before, I knew an Italian journalist who worked for Tuttosport. He candidly admitted without much or any shame that when they were stuck for column inches or needed an “exclusive”, either off his own bat or being directed from on-high, he would sit down and invent what he thought would suit, say, Juventus, best. All invented. He did point out that agents, clubs and players would feed info and wish lists with no fingerprints expecting publication in furtherance of whatever narrative suited their ends. I can only imagine it’s 10000000X worse now with clickbait sites and social media.
Given the fact that there is never (rarely) really enough that is interesting to run with for Sports news - making up fodder news for Sports junkies has always seemed to me to be ongoing treadmill. I rem reading the back pages on commuter trains in London back in the day and going mostly - why am I bothering even looking at this.... Then I moved to the US and saw what passes for sports interest stories here, rusghing yards and batting averages and gymnasts' grandmothers' Ohio cake bake-offs.... and nearly found myself longing for the nonsense....
Jurgen Klopp is back in Liverpool, attending the LFC Foundation Gala Ball on Friday evening, and it has been revealed he made an incredible donation. Klopp returns for the first time since leaving the club last May, combining his duties as an honorary ambassador for the LFC Foundation with attending Sunday’s final game of the season. And it has been revealed that Klopp did not simply wish to be a ‘name on the door’ and to ensure his role as ambassador, confirmed after his exit, involved duties. The German also has made an incredible donation of €100,000 (£83.9k) to the Foundation. Jurgen Klopp makes €100,000 donation to Liverpool FC Foundation - Liverpool FC - This Is Anfield
I'm sure with his net worth that isn't going to affect his budget that much... but he didn't have to do it, yet he did. Guy just seems like a really decent human being. Last fall I was asked to take part in a mentoring program at the university where I work for students who have been placed in foster care, or have experienced homelessness while growing up. The idea is that these students don't necessarily have a support network or family that they can celebrate holidays with, and so they are matched up with a mentor who they can check in with and get advice or support from. To try to match us "mentors" with students we had a speed matching session. One of the ice-breaker questions was if there was one person (currently living) you could meet with, who would it be? One of the students I met with asked me this question, and the first person I thought of was Jurgen Klopp. I had to explain a bit who this was to my student match, but it really was the first person who came to mind. I'm pretty sure that the person I was eventually matched with picked me mostly because she had a German boyfriend and my wife is German and I'd spent time in Germany... So not because I wanted to meet with Jurgen Klopp, but I really do think it would be fascinating to meet him and talk with him about "just stuff."
he looks the picture of health, compared to when he left the club. absolutely the right decision. he's gonna be in the crowd for the parade on Monday, says he won't be on the bus. classy as always.
Martin Keown says Jurgen Klopp is the best person to replace Ruben Amorim at Manchester United. He does admit, however, that it might be difficult to persuade him. I’ve no idea how much Keown gets paid for his punditry, but whatever it is, it’s definitely not enough. There’s a decent chance he’s getting paid more than I do on BigSoccer.
I was just thinking that myself yesterday. He's slimmed down, looks great. I'va had a suspicion his medical advice might have been to step down from that crazy job he was doing. The man was really doing too much......
