On the last point. Remember Joe announced that he was going to pick up black woman. So he picked the black woman not the best candidate for VP. But here we go with this one. The thing is a lot of black women know that white man won't vote for Harris so technically they would want somebody who can win but we've structured this thing so poorly that to skip over Harris screams dysfunction on a whole nother level so now we're stuck with Harris who has no chance of winning. I don't care what the polls say you cannot convince me as a black man in America that white people are going to vote for Harris. That is why I've been screaming to rally around Joe and just do whatever is necessary to push this thing through but it's just cowardice on every level. If they didn't do this in the midterms when we would have time to rebrand and everything else they can't do this now because this just shows the dumbest party and how do you convince people you have a plan for the future when you can't even figure out who's your candidate. This is before the Press just tear up the Democrats and then you get all of the people who were pro-biden sniping or were members of the Biden White House leaking about how they feel betrayed and this and that about the party and that's going to drown out whatever new message to save America that we're trying to say.
The wise among those women understand Kamala can't win. You'll hear some whining, sure, but what other choice is there, if POCs are to survive? This right here. It will work. She can't stand up to that level of organized, racist opposition.
As Jitty highlighted, the black women in the Bulwark focus groups were not wanting Harris, they were wanting a white heterosexual male to be the candidate because they understood that Harris would be targeted in very racist and sexist ways (and by extension all black females would be targeted) and because a straight white male would have the best chance at beating the orange fascist.
More info, but not much. Hakeem Jeffries has expressed a similar view to Biden, according to a source familiar. A Jeffries spokesman tells me, “The letter sent by Leader Hakeem Jeffries to his House Democratic colleagues speaks for itself. It was a private conversation that will remain private.”— Jonathan Karl (@jonkarl) July 17, 2024
What was the age group of these women? Because the kids on TikTok are saying white people are scared of a black female president and that is why they want Joe to step down and a blitz primary. This may mean something or maybe mean nothing but how's that going to look to Young black women and men. Older black folks will kind of more understand the situation and that there's no way a black woman can win but younger people will see it as a slight and aren't we trying to get the young people to vote.
If we were trolling Republicans the way they troll Democrats, and if the stakes weren't so high, we could do a Harris-Buttigieg ticket and watch their heads explode from all their racism, sexism and homophobia trying to get out of their mouths at the same time.
I honestly don't know - I think it was a range of ages because they did mention one of the older black women said something that all of the younger black women rebutted. I don't think they gave specific ages for anyone, just those types of generalities.
Just on that specific point, I don't think it's exactly news that the DNC isn't the best run organisation in the world. Far from it.
Trump trolling the Democrats, one of the few things they do well. They won't commit to a VP debate because they don't know who the VP will be BREAKING - Trump campaign response to VP debates:“We don’t know who the Democrat nominee for Vice President is going to be, so we can’t lock in a date before their convention. To do so would be unfair to Gavin Newsom, JB Pritzker, Gretchen Whitmer, or whoever Kamala Harris… pic.twitter.com/kCrhbFQ4t3— Insider Paper (@TheInsiderPaper) July 17, 2024
And so it begins but sure, changing candidates will work with just plug and play. Meanwhile Trump's former VP is not voting for him but who cares. The press got their scalp and now the NYT will get their sit down and whatever else they want.
Totally unrelated to anything (well, maybe not), I remember a conversation I had in November 2016 with a work colleague who was a black female (she was also a neighbor who died a few years ago; our first and last names were similar enough that we regularly received each other's mail). She and I understood each other in the sense that even though our specific situations are different, the overlap is significant. We were talking about the significance of Obama's win and she replied: "now when I tell my nieces and nephews that they can be President, I will no longer be lying." It was a touching moment.
My hail Mary would be blitzing through a bunch of legislation that demands the press focus on it. Expand the court, forgive student loans bring back affirmative action, codify abortion. All of it.
I like her. Most of my mom's family lives in Sonoma County and they like her. But obviously, I'd vote for my wife's idiot cat before I voted for Mango Mussolini. Edit/Addendum: This isn't to say I'm definitively "Biden needs to drop out." I'm very conflicted about this, I'll be honest. Sounders feel free to take back the "rep" if the addendum pisses you off.
And it is not the normal context-- every one here, basically has been quite outspoken about their politics, here in a very public and semi archived place. We're all on the chopping block, not just the usuals. We must all hang together or we will surely all hang separately.
We might all be in the same “camp” after that 2AM crash of the front door coming down. First they came for those who post on liberal chat rooms …….. Remembering when I first came to the States in ‘69. Taking a trip up the Owens Valley and finding this place called Manzanar and walking around in there. I thought HTF did this happen here and made it my business to find out as much as I could. Then working at my first job I found one of my workmates was born there. he seemed surprised that I knew of it. At that time not many people seem to know about Executive Order Number 9066. Or care! And they hadn’t done anything wrong.
That doesn't piss me off. I have no hostility to people who support Biden either fully or questionably. My hostility is toward those who want to suppress the dissent of people like me, ignoring that people like me are on the front lines with Republican targets fully fixed on us.
You know what I did? I went to a yoga class today, socialized with some people that I hadn't seen in a while, bought a new yoga mat to replace the old one I had (Bought in 2012!), then I got tacos, followed by ice cream at 10 P.M. It felt great. Anyway, Schumer couldn't even wrangle Manchin (Who is his own brand of stubborn) or Sinema (Who is off in Arizona somewhere) and Biden had to step in. I don't think Biden is going to take him seriously. Regardless, the cynical part of me thinks of that Grim article about older Dems being scared of Republicans and being stuck in the 80s. Meanwhile, Biden, a Dem who came of political age during that time, is still going forward. I think it says a lot. I'm still Biden, for a variety of reasons. One, he's the incumbent, two, primaries have said otherwise, three, he's still the best option as he's beaten Trump before. The end of the day, it's still his decision. Obama podcasters, Never Trump types like Tim Miller, aren't the arbiters. EDIT: We are also, and I cannot stress this enough: Three months out. At this point, people should be enjoying a beer or an edible and just enjoy summer. Having worked in political windows, things really don't start kicking in till September. I will be honest, I considered Klobuchar, even donated to her. Also thought Bernie might have had a chance. And while I think I have a good read on things, this was one of the things I whiffed on. Once she dropped out, I started considering Biden. Once he was endorsed in SC, that was when I knew that I had to vote for him and no one else in the primary. Mayor Pete didn't have any appeal, he comes across as too slimy, too slick. That said, Biden's appeal has always been a retail politician with a goofy uncle vibe as one person who used to post here put it. I also said electing him was the equivalent of calling your dad (Or someone important to you) for help when you know you ********ed up.
I've mentioned in another post, I spent a lot of time visiting a nursing home as my great-grandmother and aunts were based there. They were a group of three, and all three, were mentally sharp. My great-grandmother, while not in the best shape physically, was brilliant. Still gave me advice, we could talk about anything (Mostly sports, current events, and college). My great-aunts, same thing. All sharp. The kicker? All three lived through some stressful times (Great Depression). All three also lived well into their 90s. My grandmother is a year older than Biden, she's doing more things than I am and I usually live an active life. Last time I talked to her, she was telling me about her plans for fishing and bowling clubs. She also has a cup of coffee before bed. And lives on her own with a cat. My grandpa, same thing, my great-grandpa, again: same thing, and he survived three heart attacks. I mention these because having spent enough time in a nursing home, I like to think I'm able to recognize that age might be a problem. Biden's old, no getting around that, but he isn't displaying the things that would have me concerned. Trump on the other hand, is also old and has been displaying things that quite frankly, are things that should have had him in a home for his own safety back in 2020. His slurring, those weird tics he does when he garbles words ("Uck-yuck, crimincale"), that weird pause he did followed by a sound of relief in one speech, his weird tangents (Bags of soup, his thing with plumbing), his years of not taking care of himself, and of course, the recent assassination attempt. And yet, it's funny how there's silence from the media. Anyway, the one thing I'm going to try and not do is be certain. I do however, remain cautiously optimistic for a reason.
