I don't know if it will be but I think to your point of engaging young voters, I think that too do bigger legislation or at least attempt bigger legislation that has a chance of getting their attention and somewhat impacting their lives
Politico Playbook reports that Biden now runs behind generic dem, Harris and others FIRST IN PLAYBOOK: WHAT DEMOCRATS ARE READING — This polling memo (h/t JMart) from BlueLabs Analytics is circulating among party officials still keen to convince JOE BIDEN to step aside and prevent his party from suffering what many fear will be a historic loss to DONALD TRUMP. The topline findings from interviews with over 15,000 voters in seven battleground states: “Alternative Democratic candidates run ahead of President Biden by an average of three points across the battleground states. Nearly every tested Democrat performs better than the President. This includes Vice President [KAMALA] HARRIS who runs better than the President (but behind the average alternative).” “Some of the gains are coming from winning undecideds and those previously supporting a third party. However, alternative candidates are also pulling votes from Donald Trump. All candidates continue to hold the Democratic base.” “Voters are looking for a fresh face. Those more closely tied to the current administration perform relatively worse than other tested candidates.”
Does politco have an idea how this would be pulled off. That is what annoys me about this. It is more everyone gets a unicorn talk.
It seems increasingly like Dem elites and a hubristic president are going to punished for ignoring the voters. All the polling has said for several years that voters, especially young voters, but also dem voters, black voters etc did not want a Biden candidacy. And now he clearly is not up to a campaign given the decline we've seen lately. He can't unite the Dems themselves let alone voters. I can't recommend enough Ezra Klein's recent interview with Tim Miller. Klein was early to this back in feb. His reporting is that elected Dems are now all convinced Biden will lose but would rather suck it up than take the risk. This cuts across the idea that Trump is an existential risk. Basically they are cowards. It all ends with a whimper. I think I will leave it there and not flog the elderly horse ....
Ezra should either name those “elected democrats” or STFU. He has been on this tangent for a while now. He even backtracked at some point and not he is back at it. He is basically looking for confirmation bias at this stage.
Well remember, the elites are also not hearing the base say we are fine with Joe. So the 1% percent who will be fine come what may want to make a call for the 99% cause they know better. Yeah let's do that.
nah. i was wrong. he has this correct. i’m hearing the same thing from others. pelosi tried to get Biden to go.
All of this should have happened during the midterm. It is too late now and even talking about it only serves to weaken support and belief.
But that's an issue. Do you give in and promote the 40something whelp they want? Sure, Clinton and Obama and Kennedy were ready. The rest? Nit so much.
And for someone who supposedly had a cold: not a single sniffle, no runny nose, no tissues, etc. If you can't think clearly or function effectively at the very end of a supposed cold, it's probably not the cold that's the problem.
Its not a question of whether its the media's problem. How about, its the media's job. If the media chooses to talk about and analyze the debate for two weeks afterward, it sorta becomes the media's job to ... you know.... analyze what was said in the debate, no?
^ And following up on that point, has NBC and ABC gone full right wing? They seem to have an unhealthy obsession over the Republican convention. I mean, 90 Palestinians just died in a recent Israeli attack (Hamas numbers, but still...), but let's show 24/7 coverage of people taking turns sucking Trump's dick and not even mention the bombing once. Get a clue about your viewers' interests!
We will continue to see this until November and I doubt it helps. Biden has not just been having difficulty with extemporaneous speaking. He's also been struggling to read speeches off a teleprompter. Here, he mistook text promising a 5 percent cap on rent increases for a cap on rent increases larger than $55 https://t.co/oxNxe3lip7— Eric Levitz (@EricLevitz) July 16, 2024
Listening to that right now. It's very depressing. edit: Until a few days ago I had never watched a Bulwark podcast. This is the 3rd I've watched. What strikes me is that they are saying, literally sometimes, the same things I have been saying. For example, I've mentioned several times Biden has hit the floor of his support. In this podcast linked here, Ezra Klein just said Biden has hit on "the floor" of his support.
These can of hit pieces will continue. It's up to Dems to give them no air. Every mistakes is magnified ten fold, while when there are no issues, no talk. Like how they covered inflation.
Do you think Biden will be physically and mentally able to be an effective president four years from today?
No, but it doesn't matter to me and most posters here. Unfortunately it may matter to enough voters to lose him the election.
And also factoring-in how he walks and the need to shut down at 8pm, I'm pretty sure an AI robot can carry out all aspects of his 2024 campaign better. And then Biden the human can focus on running the country. Win-win.
So the Trump shooting managed to push the Epstein news AND Project 2025 off the news. But updates about Biden's speaking issues are back on the front page. I think we're approaching the point where the truth of the matter is less important than the perception. Saying that doesn't mean I'm taking a stand one way or another on his mental fitness (I still lean towards the "he's slowed down a LOT but I don't see evidence that his verbal gaffes reflect cognitive decline" POV but I'm just one voter out of the 80-plus million he & the Democrats need).
Exactly. And if people think the best possible candidate is someone who will not be able to do the job, then we have already lost.
That's the problem with the two-party system. It gives us choices like "Sure, our guy sucks, but he doesn't suck as much as your guy." A lot of the time people vote for the lesser of the two evils, and this is no exception. However, in a worst-case scenario, the country will survive 4 years of a doddering old man, and life as we know it will continue onward after that. The alternative is a permanent change in direction down a dark, dark path that will change things forever, and not in a good way. Dems need to STFU and get behind Biden because the alternative is not some version of Mitt Romney, John McCain or Bob Dole.
First, you need to convince other people of the worst-case scenario and that your guy, who probably won't be functioning well in four years, assuming he is still alive, is a better option. That is not a winning message.
The press realized Democrats are little bitches. They can be bullied into abandoning their leader. This is a great ad for those that want to believe Dems are fighters. We are for you til the press tells us we shouldn't be.
