The problem is we had the likes of Nancy saying only Opa Joe could make the decison, and then he kept making the wrong one. And he isn't strong enough to bring Dems along with him, despite announcing his decision multiple times - it's a total failure of leadership. Blaming Dems and campaign operatives for lacking the correct spirit is silly. This shows how Joe's age is a structural issue with both voters and the DNC. There is no real way to change it. So now we need a miracle of some kind.
Either the senate candidates need to give Biden huge reverse coattails or he's goneburgers He is running so far behind the statewide candidates. Feels like a generic Dem would outperform Biden at this stage. No wonder there is so much negativity out on the campaigns. He may well be hurting them. You saying he isn't a fascist doesn't change the facts. When you lead insurrections to overthrow a democratically-elected government because you lost, you could be a fascist. When you state that those who hold you accountable for your actions should be subject to televised military tribunals and tried as traitors, for no other reason than they document your illegal activities, you're probably a fascist. When your own VP choice once called you "America's Hitler", and you have a history of making statements and doing actions that are consistent with fascists, you're a fascist.
And I say the following with tongue partially in cheek, but I'm starting to think that even Adam Kinzinger running on the Democratic ticket could outperform Biden at this stage. (I just watched him on Colbert and he not only states what is important, but does so in a clear way). As I've said to superdave several times, the reason Biden's numbers didn't go down much after the debate is because they are as low as they can go given many of us would vote for a dead monkey as the Democratic candidate. In other words, his numbers are the dead monkey's numbers. Any generic Dem nominee would outperform Biden and a dead monkey. He's been a great president, but he is the past, not the future.
Yeah For those of us following the anorak polling podcasts - Biden's numbers have been in the toilet since his 'big win' in the '22 midterms - so there was the worry it was structural i.e. he's just too old and it's priced in. But then he tightened the race up. The problem now is, what lever is left to pull? e.g. he's been running TV unopposed in the swing states for months as Trump was convicted .... now what?
Great, now let's do fascist Joe Biden. • Sending a federal police force to round up innocent people and put them in jail for opposing your leader • Imprisoning your political opponent • Censoring true stories that are unfavorable to the regime • Calling a segment of the population an “existential threat to the nation” • Forcing unwanted medical treatments • Having a propaganda force in the media while silencing dissent
Can we stop engaging with fantasists on here? It's just pollution. Make him at least post actual reality based content.
The reason we are having this debate is because Biden had a bad debate and the press has gone all in. Yes, he is old but you are acting like the press isn't taking revenge on Biden for being a scandal free white house. 200 plus articles including 30 opinion pieces in 2 weeks. The press will have a field day with this. I make weakness an issue because it is. Trump is up there because half of the voters love a bully. When I say weakness, I mean a party in disarray. It doesn't project a party with a clear view. All these people crying Biden is gonna hurt them are creating a self fulfilling prophecy cause they keep giving the press stories instead of saying nothing. Now you kick Biden out then you will have Biden loyalist running their mouth and you will be like me wishing they shut up and stop feeding the press but it will be too late. And loads of white liberals are uncomfortable about Harris being the head of the ticket. They are the ones crying to press now. If they weren't then it wouldn't matter because a vote for one is a vote for the other.
No but the press want salacious news, why give it to them. If you want to win, you know how the game is played. What is to gain from backbiting like this?
Yeah, I remember that time when Joe said that the Charlottesville neo-Nazis were also "fine people." And when he called immigrants "vermin" and criminals of all sorts. And saying that he wants to outlaw a certain religion. He's the racist one, not the guy whose family made their money by discriminating against certain people for housing.
I don't think ticket splitting on that level has ever happened and usually people split pres and gov not so much senators. So people will vote Trump and GOP senator and not Dem Senator and Biden. All the special election wins and midterms wins and yet we are still afraid to stand for something. If you want to see a hail Mary, I rather Biden introduce a plan to go with 13 justices for 13 districts.
The risk is they don't turn out. We also know in '20, a lot of GOP voters left the presidential vote blank and voted down ballot - or voted for Biden
Ok but all voting previous shows a huge Dem turnout. We stopped a red wave ffs, so much so the house speaker has to work with Dems. My concern is people are gonna look at and say if this guy won't fight for his president cause he might lose, why would I believe he would fight for me. Remember Longwells poll showed people who wanted fighters even if they wouldn't win. That kind of romanticizing the fight has been a Dem problem for a long time and now we think caving to the press will win votes? Once the press knows they can break you, they will continue to set the agenda. And it will take a huge show of Dem unity to overcome, remember the Bernie Bros and how overcoming him meant Hillary wasn't as far ahead as she should be. Like there are so many examples of things going wrong. Plus you have people begging Dems to just pick a lane fight like hell and we still have back biting. To what end does it serve to go running to the press and say we can't win.
Look, I don't think people understand. The civil war has already started, it's just a cold war. It's bet hedging time. If the Teamster's president comes out and says "vote for Biden and the democrats" there is a very real chance that (a) he and his family will be threatened with violence before the election, (b) some number of his union dues paying members will decide that he's a turncoat against blue collar evangelical working families and try and have him removed, and (c) when Trump declares he won the election (even if that's not what the votes say) he will be on the list to be shot/brought to a show trial/put in a liberal re-education camp come November. The fact that he's a huge a-hole probably is superfluous.
The thing that keeps getting missed is that the presidential election has a different demo to midterms and specials. Dems now do better in midterms and specials because they have more high propensity voters (e.g college educated) If Trump turns out all his low propensity presidential voters from '20, Biden needs to do the same.
So Pfeiffer is correct. Biden intends to run the clock out AND bring the vote forward to kill this. Scoop w/ @HansNichols The DNC is quietly steaming ahead with plans to technically nominate Biden weeks before the party's conventionCurrent plan: train state party chairs next week on electronic votingvoting likely to open on Jul 29 and end by Aug. 5https://t.co/atecpNHDh4— Alex Thompson (@AlexThomp) July 16, 2024
Right. I see that in July, before things get really going on the campaign trail, and I see Biden as well positioned to win. There's virtually no chance that where things are now is where they will be on election day.
That's the only thing I'm not sure about because... THAT! IOW, like over here this time, the tories defeated themselves because they were batshit crazy. Of course, they were also the incumbents so, y'know...
Damn! This is telling! And I wouldn't be surprised if the failed assassination and republican convention tilt things even further in Trump's direction. Maybe that will finally be the signal that convinces Biden to get out, but I doubt it.
Well, tbf, he might... but probably only so far as quite a few other dem candidates would. It's a risk IOW but, then again, so is changing guys now. When you're right, you're right
