It's incredibly ignorant to say it and completely disregards reality given the actions of the party on a national and state level. Remember, people voted for them either knowing, or because of, how they would treat minorities. Wasn't it something like 1/3 of the ad money was spent on anti-trans ads? Anti-trans was a prominent theme and Republicans did not hide their animosity to the LGBT+ community. They outright lied about us and disparaged us, they outright lied about and disparaged Haitians and other immigrants, and so on. Over the previous 4 years they were not hands-off in trying to eliminate us (don't say gay laws, etc.). They called some minorities vermin - do you know what is done to vermin? And yet your "good people" voted for them. Then there is Project 2025. They are out to get minorities, it is written in black and white, published all over the internet, spoken in the halls of Congress, broadcast on tv... The CDC website illustrated it by erasing the T in LGBT and denying the existence and humanity of people who don't fall into the anti-scientific heteronormative belief structure. I noticed you chose not to respond to my screenshot, presumably because it contradicted your "reality". They are working step by step to eradicate us. They have not been quiet about it. You cannot say Republicans are not out to get minorities and have me think you are an honest participant in this discussion - in my opinion you are deliberately ignoring the facts because it doesn't align with your bias. It explains why you are giving fascists the freedom to do their thing here, while using bothsidesdoit as your excuse. Like many regular Germans in the 1930s, you are choosing poorly. It's ok to make mistakes and be wrong, there is no fault in that, but it's not ok to bury your head in the sand and tell people who are on guard that they are just seeing things and work to downplay the significance of the attack that is in progress.
42% of the Republican primary voters supported him in 2022. This is after his previous comments about believing all gays should be killed were brought back to light with national attention. Don't talk to me about "tiny minorities".
With those Republicans you assumed that the bigotry, flag waving and showy piousness to cover for their retrograde positions on social issues was just baked in. Despite that, you at least hoped they had America's best interests in mind (Iraq War, not so much). Trump doesn't even bother with all that. He signaled it with his dark inaugural address in 2017 and all of his nasty fashy words & actions since then. "Russia if you're listening", blackmailing Zelenskyy for Biden dirt, alienating our traditional allies, downplaying COVID and of course the failed coup attempt. Now he's at war with a "lawless city" and it seems as if the goal is to declare martial law. And we all warned you, squishy moderates who just couldn't vote for Hillary & Kamala.
I will occasionally still dip my toe in. In spite of myself. The poster who shall not be named has 145 posts in P&CE since Friday, how many of them worthwhile? How many of them not the most blatant of trolling? Who wants to sift through a mountain of shit to find the occasional interesting post?
I think I'll follow @Knave's advice and drop it here. I've made the points I wanted to make and I just either disagree with some of what you are saying or don't feel like I'm being heard or believed and not crazy about being attacked and assigned guilt for things I didn't say. Fair enough if you feel that way too. I guess I'll just say that calling me ignorant and comparing me to Germans in the 30s, even if you believe it to be true, is potentially counterproductive. I also think it's patronizing and infantalizing for me to agree with you (if I do not), just to be a good ally. Last call for shots on me before this thread gets shut down.
See #5179 from Dyvel above to understand why a lack of action is alienating the old-timers here. It's akin to turning a Cheers-style bar into a hipster, PBR-swilling, handlebar mustache, LCD Soundsystem-playing, asshole Brooklyn bar for...I don't know why exactly. You've danced around the issue and indicated all opinions are essentially equal. But when confronted with tons of speficic examples as to why that POV is asinine, you sort of throw your hands up and say this place is just unmanageable. We know you're smarter & more aware than you're portraying in some of your replies which makes people more frustrated.
But I haven't said all opinions are equal. I think I've just made it clear that I'm dispassionate about many things people here are passionate about (there he goes with his privilege), and it seems clear that my opinions aren't welcome here either - is that fair to say? As such, it also seems to me that the forum does not have a passing grade when it comes to the credibility test on identifying trolls, (yes, even self-avowed ones). And I believe that ignore lists or ignoring by regulars would go a long way in reducing productiveness. I do appreciate you've tried to engage me (mostly) without snark and attacks and I take away that as a positive of some of these exchanges. That is what I'm asking for of this forum. Disagree respectfully and without personal attacks. Differing viewpoints should be welcome. But, I also agree with you that it's understandable that they are not. I will add that I reached out to someone to be another more regular mod and agreeing with my approach won't be a litmus test for passing. I've said before I only get involved because I managed reported posts and since at the moment we only seem to have ASF as a semi-active mod, I think another set of regular eyes might quell some of the frustration (or not) and if the person I asked is not interested, then I'll keep trying. Heck, Jitty would be welcome to mod if lack of modding is why he left.
I'm not an old-timer in PC&E like @Cascarino's Pizzeria mentions, but I still find this guy infuriating and subtractive. I long just didn't interact with him but ultimately decided to hit Ignore, which is a sad thing to do in a shared-interest forum (as opposed to, the wild world of apps). I've also been watching/listening the last few days and have been thinking about folks here equating his posting behavior with others'. I confess I don't find him equivalent, and as I responded to him what he calls pithy I call just short and lazy. Still--I like to think I'm a good room-reader, and I like to make jokes at least as much as several others here. I saw at least one mention of "one-liners, not always funny." The vibe I thought I was getting was that this board entailed discussion of some topics, with room for the leavening of humor. If I've misjudged that and contributed to what some see as the degradation of the board I apologize. I agree with @dark knight that opposing viewpoints should be welcome. As I also responded to our poster, he doesn't express viewpoints, he just kind of leaves phrases lying around in hopes someone will bite. Lazy. If he asked genuine questions or expressed genuine opinions, of course that would be worth engaging. He doesn't. So at some point I can see that for some there's a Venn overlap between what lots of people see as shit-posting from this one guy, and the "one-liners, not always funny" that crop up. In the end I'm thinking about whether and how my posting may overlap with posting that some folks here don't like, and whether this board's O.G. is after a more thoroughly deliberative/declarative space, as opposed to having fun *as a part of that*. For myself I get more than enough purely srs bzns at work and with the whistle, and of course as part of considering the utter shit-show in which we now find ourselves. If I've overstepped or under-thought, my apologies. I've enjoyed my time in P&CE since the election, but in the words of Valentine Michael Smith, on this board "I am only an egg."
There have been a number of us who have said the same - we want opposing viewpoints. But we want them thoughtful. We are very certainly left leaning (in most cases), but also have healthy discussions. Sometimes they get mean, but not often (and I really detest those who use "IC" in some from to denigrate posters). That said, most of the posters with a right leaning view do not meet this expectation. Regarding the current poster being discussed, there have been many of us who have asked for a source on what he says is fact, or provide some evidence to back of his beliefs. None has been done. All he does is post twitter links (for which he once mocked me for saying twitter was not representative of entire views) which rarely (ever?) have links in them. But we really want a good and thoughtful right leaning poster. As an example, of sorts, I will use @ceezmad I disagree with him on a bunch of stuff, but really appreciate that he does post links and very much appreciate his posting in the Cities thread. He has gotten me to think differently about housing (meaning looking at it from a different perspective), specifically, because of what he posts. Stuff like that I appreciate. Not the driveby posts of Toaster or the trolling of Germy. When twitter became popular, the lazy posting increased from most. We used to have posts that were longer and views more explained, usually with links somewhere in a back and forth. Now they are often truncated into two or three sentences. It's disappointing, but most of us often do reference where we get new material. Or, if not, it is usually easily searchable. Not so with a poster like Germy.
Is this referring to me? If so, I have never said anything along the lines of "HAHA GET REKT, LIBTARD CUCKS". That is simply a whiny projection from a liberal who hates seeing opposing viewpoints in his echo chamber. Will I poke fun at liberals from time to time or say things that may irritate them? Of course, but that's part and parcel of any online community. However I'm more than happy to engage on any issue and there are multiple posters with whom I often have exchanges with with no issue. That is, we go back and forth for a bit, and then agree to disagree.
If I thought there was the slightest chance of him offering an interesting post, he wouldn’t be on ignore.
I mean … you just link dumped 5-6 links of videos with basically the same thing in the immigration thread . That’s troll behavior . It’s clear you’re just trying to get a rise out of people .
This is a fundamental misunderstanding of what is happening and this attitude likely comes from a place of frustration and anger. I am providing evidence that what some people are claiming is not happening and hand waving away IS in fact happening. A single video can be dismissed as a one off or "selectively edited". Multiple videos from different angles of different parts of the city helps tie together the picture and gives people less grounds (whether they admit it publicly) to simply dismiss it. For example, looting that poor woman's store or vandalizing a memorial to Kobe and Gigi are poignant images, but different, and both help tell a story.
Yes, Fartimus DogPyle. You could post links backing up your conservative feefees but you never do. You never act in good faith and therefore are kicked around like a Spaniard's head in an Aztec soccer game
I'll simply say that stating a viewpoint is based on ignorance is not the same thing as saying the person is ignorant. I am ignorant when it comes to biochemistry, but that does not make me an ignorant person. I didn't say you were ignorant, but I am saying the viewpoint is based on ignorance of the situation, especially considering the information I have presented that is directly contrary to what you suggest.
Somewhere along the way, maybe with Facebook, people started leaving words out of sentences. Remember when Facebook was about updating your "status" and the word "is" was automatically included, so someone might have posted "feeling sick after last weekend" or "over the moon" instead of the complete sentence? Then, people became allergic to the word "the" in sentences. Someone might say "My favorite basketball team is Cavs" or whatnot. The laziness continues with the overuse of the comma everywhere. "Who has time for periods or semicolons, just throw a comma down?" And if we could stop referring to people by their last name? "Was that the game where Mathis scored or McBride got hurt?" /Rant
ok. Don't remember this being a thing, but I've never been on facebook. Agreed. Ok, are we supposed to call them, "Clint," and "Brian," only, as if we're best buds or something? Can you elucidate?
