    I didn't.

I've said the way he spoke makes it arguable what he was saying and, if people interpret him as talking about the voters, that's bad.

Can we stop talking about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin now and move on? :)

I think we're in danger of reaching violent agreement :D

Anyway, yes, I agree. If people CAN interpret him as saying the voters are garbage, that's a big deal. It's not the 'nothingburger' some people are saying.

Well, he was talking about the Trump supporting comic, wasn't he but, look, I think we're labouring the point now mate.

I've already said that I didn't think he was insulting the voters as he was clearly talking about the 'comic' who was the Trump supporter in the sentence immediately preceding it.

Also the point I made here still stands...

    https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/t...hing-like-that.2129954/page-147#post-42615588

I don't think he meant to but the somewhat clumsy way he said it has allowed people to pretend that he did say that and, (contrary to some people's belief), that's a bad look.

Quite honestly if we're having to parse a politicians words like they're on a legal contract because they're sometimes garbled and confusing, we're probably NOT in a great position.

This is why @Sounders78 and I say, maybe he shouldn't be speaking atm other than anodyne stuff about 'I support Kamala'... if that.

There's no maybe about it in my mind. Just for one week he needs to just stay hidden. Even merely appearing with Kamala would be detrimental. Opening his mouth even more so.

I mean the orange Hitler-loving felon says so much crazy we don't need to steal the spotlight. During the Rogan podcast he said he wants to be a "whale psychiatrist" and that simply doesn't make the top 10 crazy shit he said for that day. (I posted the link in the Trump faces the music thread)

This is a long but fantastic read about Biden's economic policies, the future of them, and what Harris might do.

My biggest concern with Harris is she's well off to the point of disconnect, and while I have no problem with affluence, that concerns me. Biden's done well, but he's always been grounded.

My biggest hope is that she keeps Lina Khan on the FTC. And that Harris says no to the wealthy donors who want Khan out.

I think that's a typo for "feces." Or perhaps it is the fufu version of "fee-fees?"

i like Khan a lot. I'm just not sure how long she'll be in post and whether she'll get the backing she needs if she does.

    Yep. This.

Trumpers get to be lawless and we have to be flawless, as was said a week ago. If we're going to lose anyhow, why go down being nice?

The problem is the word, 'IF', though, isn't it.

I mean, yeah... if we're going down anyway, might as well go down swinging. I'd just rather not make it become a self-fulfilling prophesy, that's all.

More to the point if you or I say something, nobody really cares but if a major politician says something, (or about which it can be claimed), it's not a great position.

Of course, if we have to play nice to our oppressors, it means we've already lost, in a sense. The only question left is how long the Dems can fight off the plague of conservatism even if Harris wins.

Bidenomics Is Starting to Transform America

Nicholas Lehmann: “Objectively, and improbably, he has passed more new domestic programs than any Democratic President since Lyndon Johnson — maybe even since Franklin Roosevelt.”

Biden has been so well-off to the point of disconnect longer than Harris has… starting in 2009, the Bidens’ income has been around $400k a year.

For Harris, she earned less than Biden until she married Emhoff, when their income jumped over a million a year, largely because of Emhoff’s income..

    This infuriates me.
FWIW most of you know I’m a public librarian; I don’t believe I’ve ever shared that my original plan was to be an archivist—my MLIS specialty was Archives & Records Management. I moved to this area and got my Masters at Maryland for that reason.
So had life gone in a slightly different direction 20 years ago, she could be my boss right now.

    And yes—Biden should fire her.

History will be kind to Biden. He wasn’t perfect and I have issues with his foreign policy but on the domestic front his Presidency was positive and consequential.

Sometimes when I hear someone say, oh, I don’t care about politics, I reply, ok, but politics cares about you.

All over America, there are millions of comfortable middle class people who work as nurses or librarians, etc, people who thought their work lives were independent of politics, who are being forced to care about politics. They’re uncomfortable with it.

All over America are millions of folks who have been able to weather any previous election because they could count on there being a "they" on each side who would at least minimally take care of their interests.

They object to the notion that this is not true this time (and wasn't last time) and manifest this objection by refusing to face the fact at all. There is "supposed to" be a "they" that allows and refuses things, and they want "them" to take care of it just like always before. They literally don't want to be bothered to exercise any self-determination-- they don't want their votes to be meaningful-- taking care of things, that's "supposed to" be up to the grown-ups...
