They did what they were supposed to do, under what I’m sure was enormous pressure. And it looks like they weren’t pulled into that multi-state fake electors scheme either. But that’s just doing your job, no bonus points for that. On the importance of Trump’s endorsement to Kemp’s reelection, Trump said yesterday that Kemp knew he was going lose, Trump then endorsed him and he won, amazing, and Kemp’s wife could not be more grateful. Of course Trump’s a pathological liar and could easily have made that all up but it’s hardly a profile in courage for Kemp not to then call that out, if untrue. Kemp is like so many of these Republican politicians who run scared of Trump even though they know who he is and the danger he presents.
How amazing would it be for Kamala to carry Georgia because a few 10ks GOP/undecided decide to leave the President blank / 3rd Party / or write in another candidate, because Trump couldn’t stop badmouthing Georgia GOP?
I'm feeling a bit like we are going around in circles. Let's say Kamala Harris pledges to do all of this in a single day if elected and Dems get a trifecta: The Republicans don't want President Harris to happen so they claim mass fraud in battleground states and different counts give Trump the lead. The Republican state legislatures in Georgia and Arizona do what I said they will do. The Pennsylvania and Wisconsin GOP-controlled chambers also argue that Trump won their state. Competing slates of electors are submitted. Mike Johnson refuses to hold the session certifying the election until SCOTUS weighs in. SCOTUS says the uncertainty means the Constitution says the House must vote. In January 2025, the House chooses Trump over Harris. Now what is your plan. See what I mean? Everything you are suggesting is meaningless in light of how the GOP can and will act.
But in addition to doing their job, they also loudly and strongly pushed back against his narrative that anything was wrong with the election in Georgia. They could have thrown those urban counties under the bus and backed Mango's narrative even while not doing anything illegal, but they didn't do that. For the most part, the Republicans lost big in those midterms and Trump was a drag on them. Kemp won (barely) in spite of him not because of him. No, he really isn't scared of him at all. And now I need a shower after even indirectly giving half-hearted plaudits to a Governor I can't stand.
They did stand up, and you're right, they could've rolled over. They had not one but two recounts, as I recall, and ultimately they did the right thing and honored the will of the people, but not before poll workers were savagely victimized by the orange menace, and so on, but it was a massive result, not just that they went for Biden, but also (and just as critically) got not one but two Democrats elected to the US Senate...tipping the majority in favor of Democrats, and thank you for that, good people of the Peach State. Now, can y'all do that again, please? How are things shaping up I wonder, hopefully people are more enthusiastic now that Kamala Harris has entered the race? From way out west, Kemp & Raffensperger look like your typical Republican politicians, putting their own political survival ahead of what's best for the country. Kemp knows who this guy is, and if he somehow forgot, he was just rudely reminded. I just hope at least a few Republicans were turned off enough to stay home, but that would probably be naïve and wishful thinking.
Then we fight? Want do you want me to say? I’ve been consistently critical of Garland (and Biden for that matter)from the very beginning precisely because this is the type of danger I thought Trump posed to the republic. I called out scenarios like this long before J6…hell…way before people started raising the alarm about online chatter that the j6 crowd was going to try to disrupt the vote. Here is me mentioning it back on 2019 https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/t...ption-und-lugen.2104710/page-17#post-37966806 https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/t...ption-und-lugen.2104710/page-18#post-37969007 Hell…the only thing I’m surprised about is that republican State legislatures haven’t already passed laws reversing direct election of presidential electors. That was coming from the moment SCOTUS made their gerrymandering ruling.
I want you to stop criticizing people who might have ideas on how to stop the ongoing threat, if you don't have a solution of your own. I think the Constitution needs an overhaul and we may have to temporarily disenfranchise Trump supporters to guarantee the new Constitution is safe from their threat. Criticize it, but have another plan!
The latest NPR/PBS/Marist poll finds President Biden’s approval rating at 46% to 51% — the highest its been in a long time
Man, one of the great things about being in Nordic countries these last ten days is that I haven’t heard anything about American politics.
These are nice countries that seem to work pretty well. But, their societies are so different from the US that their success would be tough to copy.
Another screw up by the SS: The U.S. Secret Service is apologizing to a Massachusetts salon owner after an agent covered her security camera with duct tape and broke into her salon by picking the lock so that its bathroom could be used by various people for a two-hour period. After the two-hour period,… pic.twitter.com/s4qSFtebn0— Yashar Ali 🐘 (@yashar) August 11, 2024
The Vibes economy: Seems pretty clear that those who blamed “vibes” for Biden’s poor approval ratings were basically right. https://t.co/jMC52VgUIC— Michael Linden (@MichaelSLinden) August 11, 2024
Good interview.....Moving words. Biden will never heal the loss of Beau. It is such an open wound. I love my President. I will always love him. He’s an incredible man. He rescued this country from the grip of a madman, and then he passed the torch to his Vice President to move our country forward. I sobbed like a baby halfway through this, but it’s so worth the watch. https://t.co/sBYfMLcAQP— Jo (@JoJoFromJerz) August 11, 2024
Yeah, I was trying to figure out what the difference is between those countries, (and many western European countries for that matter), and it's hard to pin down what the difference is... and then it occurred to me. They keep voting for right-wing arseholes that don't give a shit about ordinary people and manage to manipulate the rubes to vote against their own interests with nonsense about furriners, immigrants, black people, LGBT people, the poor, (in general), etc, It can't be as simple as that, can it? I watched donny tiny hands the other day and he was describing Walz as 'hard left' with his lunatic policy of, y'know... giving food to children. I mean, yeah, these people must be stopped!!!
This country should be ashamed of itself. We are chasing away a great human being and a good president because people don't care to pay attention to things.
The key is our moderate democrats would be conservatives in those countries is something to think about. The squad would be moderates and Nina Turner would be progressive.
