My experience with a similar character, (Boris Johnson), indicates that is WAY beyond him because that implies actual competence and an ability to administer things.

You don't actually have to do so. You just have to make people think you have done so.

Missed this ad for Kamala coming out which includes one of my favourite tracks, John Farnham's 'You're the voice'.

I liked the track when it came out but I was reminded of it watching Peter Kay's 'Car Share'...

OT but that's worth watching if you get the chance.

Emily Maitlis and Jon Sopel have a good take on how Kamala Harris has energised the race...

They mention something that I've noticed... you never see Trump laugh, do you.

Literally never once. I don’t even think I’ve seen him genuinely smile, the most he ever manages is a smug smirk.

Well except for that time his crush Vlad showed up.

Walz has been saying that in his recent interviews. How weird it is to encounter someone who never laughs. It’s just not normal.

Many of you are still in the same place as 2017. If you do not want to change the Constitution to avoid minority governments pursuing antidemocratic policies, do not want the breakup of the country, and do not want to advance a set of policies that will temporarily disenfranchise people who vote for fascists...

Then what is your plan to stop an active, ongoing authoritarian takeover of our governing institutions?

    What is it?

Honestly, speak up. Explain how you stop this.

And if you don't have an answer, nobody is making you continue to post.

1)have the leader of the Democratic Party….now Kamala Harris…actively run on expanding the Supreme Court, speak of the courts lack of legitimacy (that they themselves have shredded). Talk openly about voter suppression efforts. Talk openly about situations like what happened in Harris County…and the discrepancies in polling stations and resources per capita all across “Republican” states. Speak openly about the VRA ruling and its affects. And then state clearly and unambiguously…if the American people deliver me a congress that will pass legislation to expand the court…I will sign it.

Bullshit like proposing amendments is just that…complete bullshit. They will never pass. The sooner Dem politicians come to that realization…the better.

    But the filibuster!!!!!!!

Make failing to vote to remove the filibuster politically TOXIC for Dems,

Make dumbass like Durban and his honoring bullshit traditions like blue slips absolutely TOXIC.

And the answer to the chicken littles that say we can’t do that because republicans will just reverse everything when they have a trifecta….that there is a ********ing reason why republicans do everything in their power to try to make it hard to vote…because if they could suppress votes…couldn’t gerrymander the duck out of their states….they’d never win a trifecta.

There’s a reason they’ve been trying so hard to capture the judiciary. They’ve known writing has been on the wall for decades that it was only a matter of time before they lost power and influence. It was inevitable. That’s why they made it their mission to put hyperpartisan politicians on the court.

And Biden should have been calling for this since before the primaries. And Dem congressional candidates should have had to explain why they wouldn’t commit to do so in every town hall they did. It would have been the only question that mattered to my in the Dem primaries. Are you committed to voting for legislation to expand the Supreme Court? If not…you ain’t getting my vote.

Okay, so let's say Kamala Harris says all this and then election night comes. Arizona and Georgia vote tallies show her narrowly beating Donald Trump. Trump challenges the validity of those votes. Then the Republican-controlled legislatures in both states agree that Trump's challenge is correct and pass a bill on party lines approving an alternate slate of electors. The Georgia governor signs the bill while the Arizona governor vetoes; legislature files in court that the governor cannot veto. Cases race through the courts and make it to SCOTUS, where 5-4 they say the state legislatures are correct.

    What is your plan then.

Decades ago, in line with "The Emerging Democratic Majority" idea, I was hoping (expecting?) the wisdom of younger generations to save this country.

But those damn kids just keep getting stupider.

The Flynn Effect, that IQs were increasing about 3 points per decade, has ended. IQs are now heading down. So the kids are getting dumber.

There's been an interesting side argument playing out on the Bulwark over the last 5 years about whether the problem is the voters are too dumb or the problem is the corrupt leadership lying to the voters, or some other structural moral panic type argument (mah tiktok newz!)

I tend to land on the side that the kidz will be fine if people stopped lying to them

Having said that, the voters are way dumber than we could have imagined - but it is rich to blame the kids given the absolutely clownshow amongst US conservatives over the last decade

We've discussed the data before which indicates the problem is specifically young men, who are now significantly less liberal than young women. This gap does not exist in other generations

My plan is to get in a Time Machine and get Dem politicians…and a whole bunch of shitheads around here who have been telling me that Biden and the Dems are politically brilliant…and despite all the times I’ve asked “ is now the time Dems should embrace the concept of expanding SCOTUS”…have told me no…of course not…anyway….id go back in time to get Dems to embrace that concept early often and repeatedly.

That way the reasons for it are clear for all those supposed “moderates” that are allegedly turned off by the concept.

Because then you’re not talking about marginal wins in AZ and GA. You’re talking about Dem landslides.

I’ve said repeatedly over the last several months that we are heading into a civil war. I truly believe it. In fact….about the only way I see avoiding it is a Trump victory (assuming blue states will fight fascism from within) or a massive Dem victory that includes flipping states like Florida and Texas blue.

Because a narrow Harris win…and any attempts to fix this….will lead to a state like Texas irrationally voting to secede(this is more acceptable to Texans than a lot of you would like to think). And the remaining red states that realize they’d never be able to flip the country back red w/o Texas’ EV’s and congressional delegation…and join them. And war will be inevitable

And just in case you think this scenario you point out to me is somehow new to me….here is me pointing out the reality of this constitutional flaw over two years ago

I thought it existed in all generations except the 65+ category (?). Or maybe I am just thinking of white men v women. But yeah, Gen Z males are a generation of immature losers, broadly speaking.

Civil war, that we on the left will lose.

    It's the only way.

    Winning elections just delays it.

    I know you think that.

But look at a map of red states.

Then imagine when those red states follow suit.

    what happens then?

if not to you…with your exit plan…to the ones that are not fortunate enough to have your resources. I know you don’t like to hear this…but your apparent indifference to the plight of millions of left leaning Americans…including LGBTQ…that would be left to the devices of the Christian Republic of America…is very republicanish of you in its selfishness.

This is the captain, the ship is sinking and cannot be saved. We've decided it's best if everyone stays on the ship and not use the life rafts because it would be unfair if some get left behind.
