Exactly. If people think she’s only about her image or is some 2-dimensional damsel in distress who relies on her image just to increase her popularity, they don’t know what they’re talking about. She’s extremely brave and smart and principled. I wouldn’t trade her for a thousand Kid Rocks as far as musicians as political spokespeople go (not that she’s trying to be as politically visible as that joke of a man).
Well, that's why I saw this isn't a 'normal' election because of Trump. IOW what we're measuring this time is the number of people that are voting against Trump rather than for a democratic presidential candidate. That was the significance of the mauling the tories got over here despite the fact that labour only had a minor increase in their share of the vote... because voted for ANYONE that had the best chance of slinging the tories out in their area. That was why the LibDems increased their seats from 11 in the previous GE to 72 this time.
I don't know as that's as true as it was a week ago. The surprising and encouraging thing about this transition has been the number of people who appear eager to vote for Harris, when we were told a couple of years ago that she was irrelevant, dead in the water. I think we did not then realize that the sources of this "information" had dropped even the pretense of liberal bias, and that the rumors of her passing were greatly exaggerated. There's actual enthusiasm rearing its head right now.
Brooooo. Kid Rock was at the RNC! How could you possibly say there isn't a Taylor Swift of the right when he was at the event!!
There does seem to be a change in tone... from the Trump lots as much as anything. That's for sure. Hopefully it continues.
I don't know if "a lot of TV people seem eager to vote for Harris" is worth a lot. And in any case, all this buzz could easily be down to renewed hope among people that would have voted against Trump regardless. But that hope is just that - hope. Think we will have to wait a bit for the dust to settle and for some reliable poll numbers to come out on the new-look race.
Kelce. But, also, you were quite clearly talking about her current boyfriend: As an expert on Taylor Swift and her boyfriends, can you point out which ones are hardcore Trumpers? Now, admitted, she did date a few country singers when she was a country singer, so you could probably find a few there. Also, here's a list of her boyfriends and even the songs she's rumored to have written about them: https://taylorswift.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_Taylor_Swift's_ex-boyfriends So, if you could go through the list a point out which ones are hardcore Trumpers and why we should ignore Trump's very obvious support for Democrats and left leaning policies because of those boyfriends.
Doofus, I wasn't counting those. I was counting personally known people including my own sweet self. I was willing to vote for an old white guy one more time 'cause he's been a really good one. But I am eager to vote for Harris; she's impressed the heck out of me the last few days. And both my knot of long-term friends and my cohort of shallower recent acquaintances seem to be reflecting that same shift. It's like a threatened-all-day thunderstorm finally broke and we're all laughing while soaking wet.
I can't help thinking we're getting slightly bogged down in detail about a singer, (I assume), who may be expressing support which we find helpful. I don't know about @BocaFan but MY point was that it can be a two edged sword depending on who they are and what they say. The stuff about Taylor Swift actually supports this because, by the sounds of it I can't help thinking we're getting slightly bogged down in detail about a singer, (I assume), who may be expressing support for stuff we all agree with. MY point was that it can be a two edged sword depending on who they are and what they say. The stuff you've described about Taylor Swift actually supports this because, by the sounds of it, she's talking about opinions regarding cultural issues she thinks are important and about which anyone can hold an opinion, rich or poor. That's obviously going to be helpful because it matches our values and rejects the values of the right. Most fair minded people will accept she feels a degree of connection to the issue for the reasons you've stated. The situation with Marcus Rashford over here was similar in that he was talking about an issue with which he was familiar... child poverty in the UK. In both cases their statements seem authentic so they come across well to the public. All I was saying was that's not always the case with every celebrity so if a wealthy celebrity starts holding forth about monetary theory, say, when there's no reason for anyone to think they know any more about it than the guy propping up the bar at the dog and duck It isn't that they can't express an opinion... it's that people will feel less likely to listen if they think they're no better informed than that individual. Anyway, I think we've analysed the crap out of that issue so, as I say, moving on...
I think most of us are happy that Biden is out of the race, but since the context of the discussion was polling I think its too early to know if there is anything meaningful behind this buzz you refer to. One thing we have learned (especially in the last month) is that it really takes a lot to move the polls even a smidge.
If you had any character or even class, why would Cheeto Jesus have considered you in the first place?
