Biden really has pwned the pundit class with this deal He's now pushed through 3 trillion in stimulus between the rescue plan and infrastructure deal, and turns his attention to his next reconciliation bill Flashback: Bipartisan Biden Continues To Be Better At Politics Than You. https://t.co/tVp6rXuRVV https://t.co/w0ZnaJCf1l— Tim Miller (@Timodc) August 10, 2021
I was just listening to PSA podcast and they mentioned how weak McTurtle looked this time. In their opinion, the bill got a lot of support among reps for several reasons: 1. There is good stuff for their states, that GQP can push during their campaigns next year. 2. It is not really about Trump, and it is difficult for him to tie this around any GQP senator, even if he wanted to, so the senate doesn't feel pressured to fall in line. 3. Even McTurtle, the quintessential obstructionist, realizes that this is a lost battle and that he will have more chances to try and block Biden's agenda. However, by losing this particular battle, he has setup himself to lose a couple more in bills that can be done through reconciliation, this year. Mitch will probably choose to die on the Debt Ceiling Hill, but that is also a though sell to his caucus, since GQP has lost most of these showdowns in the past, even (or specially?) when they go all the way to shutting down the government.
Yes - it reminded me of PSA comments at the time of the potential Covid Relief bills just before the November '20 Election. It would have made sense for Turtle to pass Covid relief to help Trump and his candidates - but he couldn't because his caucus was divided on it, so he did his usual thing of preventing any vote on it Now he is not majority leader, he can't prevent the votes, which reveals how split his caucus is.
Not passed the finish line, but the senate just cleared a major hurdle and got all 50 Dems to sign onto Reconciliation to pass the 3.5trillion infrastructure deal.
I would guess that Pelosi won't allow many, if any, changes to the bill. I expect it to get through the House. This has been some damn fine work by Team Biden.
But, but, but Don Jr. stated the other day that the only Biden has done is to remind people how much better "they had it under Tr*mp." Are you saying Don Jr was not correct? No way!
Why has no one mentioned this about the Texas abortion law and how it connects to recent census numbers about the number of white people in America going down for the first time ever in the census. They want to force white women to have more white babies. This could also go in the racism thread. I cross posted it in the Supreme court thread.
when I was at school, aged 18, one of my classmates was a bit of an odd person, very quiet and introspective. one day a group of us, in-between lessons, were having a serious discussion about racism -- as informed as any group of 18 year old, 99% white kids, could ever have, that is -- and he piped up with something that has stuck with me through the last half-century.... the only way to end racism is to force people to marry and have kids with, someone who is a different skin colour than themselves. in two generations racism would make no sense. that pops into my head now and then.
Belize and Brazil are two nations where there are a lot of people of mixed race but racism is still a thing.
I wonder-- the "forbid people to marry across races" went on for a very long time without much resistance...
Yep, when Loving v. Virginia was handed down 16 states (Delaware and every Southern state from Virginia west to Texas and Oklahoma) still had "anti-miscegenation" laws. Alabama only managed to get rid of its law in 2000.
That presumes that racism is a natural reaction to identifiable, static and universally-defined groups of people who can be objectively defined as 'races', rather than a historically developed ideology contingent on context.
Point of order--I realize that Delaware is now a thoroughly Mid-Atlantic state, but I think you could argue that 50 years ago it was still Southern in many ways. The history of slavery, if nothing else.
Take that Saudi Arabia.... Joe Biden has announced the wholesale review and declassification of files from the investigation into the 9/11 attack, in response to intense pressure from Congress and victims’ families currently suing Saudi Arabia. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news...elease-files-september-11-investigation-saudi
I'm currently listening to the audio book of "Unacknowledged", which is hilarious. HW, Cheney and Rumsfeld are all in on the UFO cover up.
If the government knew anything whatsoever about UFOs, there is a 0% chance the last president would have been capable of keeping it a secret.
