But as you so frequently-- and quite reasonably-- remind us, you are not "most everybody." That is among my problems, but it isn't my fault. Clift was about as open a secret as secrets can be made to be open. The scandal there, such as it was, was Elizabeth Taylor's delight in playing ****** hag for him. And Hunter was basically outed by his own agent. When he was supposedly dating Natalie Wood, the tabloids covered it as "Natalie Would, but Tab Wouldn't."
Not faulting you for what I don't know about Hollywood, just adding to the convo. To be honest, I've never seen a Montgomery Clift film, and the only thing I ever saw with Rock Hudson in it was McMillan & Wife from 5th or 6th grade. The rest are names I've heard but don't have any experience watching. I've watched more episodes of Mannix, Hogan's Heroes, Cannon, etc. since I cut my cable than I did growing up.
Never seen prolly his best performance in “From here to Eternity” With Sinatra and Burt Lancaster. Donna Reed and Debora Kerr? Classic.
Here's a classic Montgomery Clift clip from Red River (starring John Wayne). No closeted subtext there whatsoever.
Good one. You don’t often see stars like Sinatra saying they give $10 blow jobs to rich guys. Extra cash mid month. As in FHTE.
"The Misfits" is well worth seeing; Monroe's best performance, and all the other principals are great, including Clift. And it is about stuff... freedom and captivity and the price of each, and the death of the free range West and so on.
The one old school actor I've gotten into is Paul Newman. Loved him in Slap Shot, learned he was on Nixon's enemies list, was a good race car driver, has one of the most well known watches (Paul Newman Daytona, look it up), made amazing salad dressing, along with starting a camp for seriously sick kids to have fun.
The right wing media and the comments in social media are going crazy over the Jackie W, that congressman from Indiana that passed away, gaffe.
https://www.npr.org/2022/09/28/1125591160/biden-jackie-walorski President Joe Biden mistakenly called out for the late Rep. Jackie Walorski, the Indiana Republican who died in a car crash in August, while giving opening remarks at a White House conference on hunger, nutrition and health. Walorski was one of four cosponsors on a bill to fund the conference and had been an advocate for reducing hunger in America. "Jackie, are you here? Where's Jackie," he said looking out into the audience on Wednesday morning. "She was going to be here." According to a White House transcript from the event released Wednesday evening, Biden said he "didn't think she was — she wasn't going to be here — to help make this a reality." yeah, the ring wing NPR sure did go crazy
I appreciate the little things. NEW: President Biden is reforming the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, which was dissolved in 2017 after all its members resigned in protest against President Trump’s comments about the “fine people on both sides” in Charlottesville https://t.co/OpifDubUBE— Jennifer Schuessler (@jennyschuessler) September 30, 2022
The Trumps have less appreciate for the arts, high or popular, than any family I have ever met. Books, film, paintings, music ... those things don't exist for Trumps.
No doubt to be painted on black velvet by a team of the finest Elvis on Velvet painters in the country.
Right...it's literally impossible for me, and probably every one of you, to imagine Trump being moved by a poignant vocal performance, or a stirring scene in a movie. At least a ********ing dog will howl along with music.
