IDK, I thought he made a solid impact for us. Either way, doesn't matter - gotta find alternatives now. There are several younger players vying for a regular spot in the rotation that are going to get golden opportunities in 2025 with Antonio out. Hopefully one or two of them can seize these chances.
Mostly one striker, but McLaren has tried a 4-4-2 a couple of times so far in his tenure. If we have the personnel to do that and the situation calls for it, it's on the table. But will mostly be one striker, and the expectation is definitely that this is Nicholson's job to lose for now. Nicholson can miss games (he missed both matchups in October Nations League), and is often rotated before the full 90 so those 2nd, 3rd and even 4th spots in the rotation (with respect to those games where we do run 2 guys up front) are not at all insignificant. There will be real chances for players to seize in 2025. I'm hoping the two younger top prospects in the pool (Kaheim Dixon, now at Charlton and Dujuan Richards, now at Chelsea) can step up and fill the void as attackers. Both have tons of upside and are 20 and under so if they come good we'll be more than okay.
This can all be mitigated with the incorporation of a certain Mason Greenwood. I think it's about time they get that over the line.
True, he'd fix the issue, but I'm not holding my breath waiting for him after his camp allowed those reports about contacting Tuchel to leak.
The reality is this: He doesn't fit at all and the FA will never allow him to represent the country again. Whether or not Greenwood and his camp accept that reality is another issue. I suspect they have not, which is why I personally don't really care to see him represent us (and certainly don't expect it).
He's been known for a while and there's been no signs of interest. Maybe it happens, but my honest expectation is that there aren't going to be any big England saviours coming into the picture. There aren't that many Jamaica-eligible players at this position uncapped and competing in the English top two tiers to begin with and the few solid candidates that are out there (Simms and Cameron Archer are really the cream of that crop) haven't shown any real interest in us. Dajaune Brown (Derby) reportedly accepted an invite to a Jamaica U23 camp that didn't end up happening, and is getting regular minutes in the Championship. We should probably call him, but other than that I think we will probably have to rely on the domestic born pool.
if there is no interest, no problem. i've never been a fan of these guys who magically remember their heritage, and stories with Grandma etc. after years of failing to cut it for England or whoever else just to go to a World Cup or other tournament at 30+. i accept it is a legal option, but i don't like it. i have respect for the French-born Africans who choose the African nations from the start. that said, i know we are not going to find a suitable front man from in the Craven A so we go with what we have
