https://www.reuters.com/sports/socc...-striker-alfonsos-sexist-comments-2023-10-04/ Getafe rename stadium following former striker Alfonso's sexist comments Perez told El Mundo newspaper over the weekend female soccer players should not be paid as much as men because they do not generate as much income and media coverage. "Female football has evolved, but they have to keep their feet on the ground and know that in no sense can they be equated to a man footballer," he said. Good for Getafe.
Love it. Getafe FC does not own *its* renamed stadium and has no say on township decisions about that venue, but somehow its institutional brand gets positive press for a couple of cents. Just ask Getafe Femenino athletes, who are not allowed to play at the renamed Coliseum. Their matches are relegated to some training pitch at a nearby sports complex. Getafe Femenino currently plays in Spanish Women's 3rd division, so money talks after all. Still, interesting to see Getafe FC get cheap positive press without spending an extra dime on its female squad.
In protest against mistreatment by their own federation Jamaica WNT will not take part in upcomming qualifying match(es) for Gold Cup. from Alison Swaby's twitter/X account
That is very unfortunate. The laddies that play for Jamaica deserve a lot better treatment. I am not really surprised that a major issue about support for women's sports, in particular women's football, should come inside CONCACAF. We have some very backwards attitudes still prevalent in much of the region and even the best countries, including the USA (Which I am unsure should be placed among the "best") do not really help the less powerful countries to achieve equal rights. It is hoped that Jamaica can get this sorted out soon but it sounds like the whole structure is flawed and that implies that a lot of work needs to be done just to get people in place that both sides can trust. I usually enjoy watching Jamaican soccer but they do not have a lot of depth so, if they choose to field a team from the remainder of the available players, any team fielded will be much less "fun" to watch. Of course if the rest of CONCACAF really wants to support the Jamaican then they would not accept any entry if this issue is not addressed prior to the entry being submitted. I remember coaching a girls team (U13 at the time) way back in 1998 or so and one of them asked if women's soccer will ever be popular enough for female professional players to not have to hold other jobs. I told that young lady that it was possible but it would be hard for a lot of players particularly in poorer countries and/or countries that hold misogynistic attitudes. That has proven to be true but I was way too optimistic as I though most of the world would treat women athletes as well as the men by 2020 or so but now it looks like we will be doing good to get mostly even compensation and support by 2050 so their is a good chance that I will not see it. I do wonder if the problems in Jamaica are the result of the system being flawed or simply the result of one or two corrupt people getting into position of power and then misusing their power or if it could be that incompetent people are running the Jamaican fed and are trying to do right but are too incompetent to make things run correctly.

Women's NT coach wage as % of men's NT coach wage: Sweden (48.4%) Japan (40%) Spain (14%) France (13%) Netherlands (11.2 %) England (8%) Germany (5.3%) USA - equal wage from the article in the Athletic: Emma Hayes deserves equal pay with Gregg Berhalter – this is why
In France Deschamps has a huge pay packet because he delivers results. Renard has a smaller packet but his win bonuses are really big, that's how he negotiated his appointment.
In Norway: Hege Riise before she was fired had roughly € 150k a year Men’s coach Ståle Solbakken: € 430k
The numbers for Sweden seem a bit old. Footbollskanalen checked how much they earned for 2022 Nya siffror: Inkomstlyft för Gerhardsson - men långt efter Andersson (fotbollskanalen.se): Peter Gerhardsson: 2 722 500 SEK (todays exchange=€ 237k =£ 208k=$ 258k ) and Men's coach Jan Andersson: 4 420 300 SEK (todays exchange=€ 385k =£ 337k=$ 418k ) So it is more like 61-62% now. And it is likely Gerhardsson got a rasie after WWC2023 while I am pretty sure the Men's coach
Renard gets 400 000 € per year and his win bonus for the World Cup was 600 000€ and it will be the same for Paris Olympics if France wins the tournament. I don't think the FFF has to worry too much.
“A dubious handling of the accusation of an assault, a series of defeats, a desolate game against Spain, rebellion and a coach in the headwind: improvement is difficult to imagine.”What is happening with the Swiss National Team?https://t.co/qXmdIAjqIZ— swiss wnt (@swisswnt) November 4, 2023 ...some new developement More chaos in the Swiss Nati as Blick speaks to the ex-employee accused of “pinching a player’s butt”.The employee denies this and the New Zealand police were contacted for CCTV footage. This rings true in any case and is a great impetus for further improvements: They are used to good conditions at their clubs and they know what is possible in women's football today. In terms of infrastructure, training and communication. If the conditions in the national team deviate too much from this, it causes irritation and resentment.— swiss wnt (@swisswnt) November 4, 2023 Regarding Inka Grings, she coached a male team for a season. "Only" a club in 5th tier, but that may well explain her management style.
Maybe not the right thread for this but can someone explain to me why there were barely 1,000 fans in attendance at the Rosengard-Eintrach Frankfurt game in the UWCL? I went to see Rosengard-Hammarby back in October in Malmo and there was at last 4,000 fans in attendance.
I do not know but think possibly weather and this can have had an impact: The day Hammarby Women took 7,000 fans to an away game – and won the league | Sport | The Guardian

I checked, it was 5 degrees during the Rosengard-Frankfurt game, hardly that cold for Sweden. That article has nothing to do with the Rosengard-Frankfurt game.
No, but a lot to do why there may come more people to see Rosengard-Hammarby than Rosengard-Frankfurt.
There were around 500 visting Hammarby fans when I went to see the game against Rosengard. It was played in Malmo and the majority of the crowd was Rosengard fans.
Inka Grings is now gone, officially for an unrelated case of tax evasion. Let's see how this continues.
