There's a real chance this gets out of hands if he does intervene in Venezuela.

Preemptively announcing to Petro that Colombia is next puts everyone on notice. What do you think happens when most Latin American governments who knows their next get together to organize a resistance?

The US have lost it...completely - its a rogue state

A lightbulb moment for Trump. I'm sure he's work shopping piracy as a supplement to his dumbass tarrifs.

It appears the situation is shifting from the prospect of full‑scale war to the imposition of a naval blockade on Venezuela which is an act of war under international law. A secondary objective seems to be the choking of Cuba’s energy supply, deliberately worsening its crisis. Such measures amount to collective punishment, which is also prohibited under international humanitarian law and could be characterized as a form of economic terrorism.

Another critical question is ownership of the seized tanker. If the vessel is Iranian, Tehran could retaliate by seizing ships in the Strait of Hormuz - a risk US officials openly acknowledge as recurring. If the tanker is Russian, Moscow might respond by escorting its ships as they already have assets in the region.

Disrupting oil trade and pricing is just bad for everyone and will just further isolate the US - all of this looks improvised.

I’ve been meaning to revisit this.

I believe there was a hokey attempt to include Venezuela under the War on Terror’s Authorization for Use Of Military Force (AUMF) from 2001. They were trying to somehow wrap the drug operations as being in league with Al Qaeda somehow via Iran and ME.

This admin is grasping at straws.

I doubt if Tehran wants to play stupid games in the Persian Gulf right now. They’re still licking their wounds and desperately searching for water. But Trump is clearly agitating for conflict with Maduro, it’s a whole lot less clear what his strategic objectives are and if he even has any.

The Nobel Prize has no credibility whatosever in my mind due to one man: António Egas Moniz.

He was awarded the Nobel Medicine Prize. What was his great contribution to medicine? Lobotomy!

Head of US military southern command stepping down.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/16/us/politics/southern-command-head-stepping-down.html

I think this is the kind of thing that could perhaps reverse US course on Venezuela or at least slow its current trajectory down. Not too optimistic though, but at least its something. We dont know the exact circumstances for his resignation, but on the surface it looks like he doesnt want to be part of something that will get US bogged down in Latin America.
Not to mention breaking the geneva conventions and laws of war with gunboat diplomacy and murdering peoples on boats (including double tap on remaining survivors floating in the vicinity of the wreckage)

No. It’s why he stepped down. You don’t step down and retire a year into a 3 year promotion. That means you retire at your previous rank. This was done in protest. Now…you could argue his protest was neither vocal nor public enough but its Bradley who is the piece of shit…not this guy.

Wow, it was a near miss with an American airliner that would have put the Inevitable War with Venezuela on the prime time news channels:
    upload_2025-12-15_15-45-18.png
One of the planes involved was from the low-budget company JetBlue.

'Passenger plane almost collided with US military aircraft over Curaçao'
A passenger plane almost collided with a military aircraft from the US last Friday evening over Curaçao. This is reported by the NOS, which has listened to conversations from air traffic control.

It is a JetBlue aircraft, which was on its way to JFK in New York. The pilots reported to air traffic control that an American tanker plane flew close by, at the same altitude. To avoid a collision, they had to fly lower. "It's outrageous," one of the pilots would have said on the audio recordings, writes the NOS. According to the crew, the military aircraft had no recognition enabled, such as a transponder. Other planes could therefore not see him on their radar.

And then a few days later:
'Another near-collision with military tanker plane over Curaçao'
In the airspace above Curaçao, another serious near-collision has occurred between a civilian business jet and a military tanker plane. This is reported by the NOS.
Sound recordings from air traffic control show that the crew flew straight towards other traffic during take-off, while it was not clear at what altitude that aircraft was.

We're blockading the oil tankers that contain the oil Venezuela stole from us. Or something

Until land and assets are returned to the US.

Yeah, WTF does he mean by "all of the oil, land, and other assets that they previously stole from us"?

Hey, when are those Epstein files supposed to be released, you know, based on that law congress passed last month? And Trump scheduled a prime time address to the nation for tomorrow? I wonder if these things are related.

Probably talking about when Chavez nationalized the oil industry a couple of decades ago.
