Pre-match: The inevitable war with Iran

Houthis joined the fight and has apparantly launced a salvo of drones and perhaps even ballistic missiles.

 

Iran has little experience with layered air defenses, never mind ones with Israel's depth and sophistication. It will have to launch a large number of missiles to be sure that enough get through to cause meaningful damage, at least on camera.

Too many getting through and Netanyahu has the pretext for igniting a regional war if you think that's what he really wants or is forced to act on his bluff if you think it isn't while also forcing America to get involved with potentially devastating consequences for Iran.

If only a trivial amount gets through, Iran's deterrence will take another major hit, bad enough to require Iran to attack again, even harder.

In which case all the calibration problems I've already mentioned will kick in again, leading to a rinse and repeat pattern that will be very hard to stop.

 

Depends on who says "enough" first.

If the mullahs are the ones that cry "uncle", Israel's deterrence will be massively, massively enhanced and the axis of resistance will be humiliated. Given the amount of money that's been spent on building that axis, this could have real consequences on the home front.

 

From diverse sources (FR 24, NYT, the Guardian etc), Iran has launched cruise missiles towards Israel.

Israeli intelligence has detected the launch of dozens of drones and missiles from Iran and Iraq, two Israeli officials told the New York Times anonymously.

According to the officials, the Golan Heights and an Israeli air force base in the Negev desert are expected to be the areas of impact.

TBH, I make it a point to filter which posts I read on this forum carefully for my own sanity, so this may be my first introduction to this person. Otherwise I'd have them on ignore already.

As far as that being a bannable offense, you'd think, but I'm often surprised what is & isn't. Like I said, there are double-standards what's permissible in this political climate.

 

Drones have now arrived in Israeli airspace and are being intercepted.

Iran's embassy in the UN in a statement: "From our point of view, the event is over. If Israel makes another mistake (and responds) our response will be much harsher. This is a conflict between Iran and the unruly Israeli regime and the US should not interfere in it"​

Reports are saying Israeli war cabinet has approved for a strong Israeli response against Iran on Iranian soil.

 

The videos being posted on Iranian television show a lot of direct hits and explosions in Israel. Among targets hit was the Israeli air force base in the Negev desert used to launch air strikes on Syria with 7 missiles hitting the Israeli base.

 

What I care about is for those driving the war policies of Israel not to create false narratives to pretend a confrontation with Iran would be sensible.
