January 6th. That was treason. And while I am anti death penalty in general, my penalty for treason is death.
All this talk and bravado about easy wins for US troops in arctic environment just to have reports all over the place about Finnish troops being told to go easy on Americans who struggled and to avoid demoralizing them... 🇺🇸 The U.S. Army has been struggling in Arctic NATO training according to reports.A military source cited last year's Joint Viking exercise in northern Norway as a clear example of the imbalance."Exercise commanders had to ask Finnish reservists, the most formidable Arctic… pic.twitter.com/ERFl5cwhCU— Europa.com (@europa) January 23, 2026
South Korea knows how to handle this: former president Yoon Suk Yeol faces death penalty for illegally declaring martial law in 2024.
Back when the Finns and Swedes were coming in significant numbers, the economic origins of those people would have made them unacceptable to Miller and Trump, and they were retaining more of their regional traditions than Miller and Trump would accept now as well. We had a lot of Finns come to the Boston area to work mostly in quarrying down in Quincy. There is still a historic teatotaler sauna society on the south shore founded by those immigrants. Great place to steam up and take the cold plunge in winter.
Oh, I don't doubt it. Seems almost everybody's taken their turn alongside Black folks. The Amish and such don't separate themselves from mainstream America for nothing. But I have to work with the current bigotry. Which among teetotaling and saunas and cold plunges is largely embraced by Finns, or all of them?
“Which among teetotaling, saunas and cold plunges is largely embraced by Finns, or all of them?” Definitely not “Teetotaling”, Ha Ha. Not the Finns I know.
LOL, he's probably the only or one of the only brothers in this group, but they chose to take his photo. I can hear centrists and conservatives now... "Yeh, dey can't take dat kinda cold..." when in fact, it's probably something else entirely that Hegseth's military is a failure at. Understood. I guess my position is, there's a bunch of ways to commit treason without wanting to remain in a position where you have so much control over the lives of POCs. I don't really care one way or the other about those. I'd hang a racist for wanting to stay in office and influence my existence, maybe not for treason itself. We probably differ because of our respective positions in the food chain.
I think the teatotaling was mainly a thing of the times (1920s, Finland was among the countries with prohibition in that time period). It's stuck around though.
https://allthatsinteresting.com/aimo-koivunen Reminded me of this story from WW II. Regardless of how much of it is fact and fiction I think everyone can agree he had a helluva time on those skies. In 1944, Finnish soldier Aimo Koivunen got separated from his unit and survived for weeks inside the Arctic Circle without food or shelter — fueled by a dose of meth large enough for 30 men.
I was talking about why Trump chose to drop the extra tariffs on European NATO countries suppoting the defense of Greenland. His attack on J Powell had absolutely nothing to do with that decision.
I wouldn't be surprised if the US now just builds up a large military presence in Greenland then takes defacto control at a later date. Would be the smarter way to do it.
There is a legendary clip of Kimi Raikkonen crashing out of the Monaco Grand Prix, leaving the track to his boat, and starting to drink before the race was over.
Just for you to know where we are now in the discussions about the future of Greenland : What actually happened in Greenland during WW2 :
Perhaps I need to add that Sweden have deployed 6 Gripen Jas39 fighter jets to northern Greenland flying and are also planning to deploy some of their Arctic special forces, just as France have done including an Icebreaking frigate. We are obviously happy with all the support we are receiving in defense of Greenland. Just a month ago only around 200 Danish and 200 US military personnel were stationed in Greenland, but the US were not there to help defend Greenland, only to watch out for nuke missiles and space in defense of the USA. Denmark on the other hand already had 3 F-16's, helicopters, surveillance aircrafts, and 3 Arctic icebreaking patrol ships and an Arctic icebreaking frigate, not to forget the 100 dogs for the Arctic special forces Sirius patrol sled teams and an Arctic special forces snowmobile parachute unit, all to patrol and defend Greenland. But since then Denmark have increased the deployment to 500 troops, increasing to 1,000 over the coming weeks, 7 Arctic icebreaking patrol ships and frigates (that the US have none of), and some F-35's deployed in Iceland to patrol the Arctic and Greenland Obviously the deployment of troops, Arctic vehicles, aircrafts and warships to Greenland in large numbers do face some logistic issues in a country with a population of less than 60,000 and no roads connecting any of the tiny cities and tiny villages, and less than 200 km (125 miles) worth of roads in a country 3 times the size of Texas. 3
The thumbnail image of this looks like an ad for a rom com featuring a smoking hot blond woman preparing to marry her sugary daddy, but being increasingly attracted to the smoldering male wedding cake baker, who of course is also a single parent to an adorable 10 year old. Somehow ice filled oceans are part of this. Maybe she’s a biologist who studies polar bears and will have to choose between her career or moving to the baker’s small town.
What ??? I do not know what you are looking at, but this is not it. It's a serious discussion between the chair of the Danish defense committee Rasmus Jarlov and Sir Richard from the UK
The top image I see has a very handsome man on the left side of the screen, then there’s space, then there’s an old man, and then on the far right is a beautiful blond woman who seems to be leaning in the old man.
I'm getting the feeling that the USA and YT are now doing some sort of a ban and vile distortion of news about Denmark and Greenland. Have you actually clicked on the vid ?
Dave's just riffing on a niche entertainment form here in the states. It was mildly funny. The Atlantic had a piece on native self defense activities. https://www.theatlantic.com/interna...opy-link&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=share
Btw, Rasmus Jarlov is a politician kind of below the average image of a handsome Dane. I have been told by a young female US tourist that even older male Danes look surprisingly and exceptionally handsome, I suspect because of our high cheekbones. Much like this, that is also about Greenland :
