Yeah. Russia took over and (not so) covertly invaded Eastern Ukraine in 2014 and not a lot of talk of moving the World Cup in 2018.

This a long post but well worth reading.

This is what would happen if America invaded Greenland.

This reads more like a Euro fantasy of what would happen imho.

Having said that, what happens to U.S. military bases in such a context is one I couldn't possibly be equipped to answer.

An invasion of Greenland would be a de facto destruction of the foundation upon which these bases operate, which is under SOFA. There would be no more mutual defense, since America had attacked one of the member states.
That would obliterate the legality of U.S. bases in Europe. But it would not change much about their practical existence, at least not right away.
I assume there would be near immediate eviction threats in almost every European country that hosts U.S. bases, public opinion would demand it, but a threat is just a threat if you can't enact on it. Likewise, they could try and block the passage of U.S. military goods through European ports and airspace, but we are talking about direct confrontations with the most powerful military in the world here.
For instance, would a Trump led U.S. allow for a European blockade of a U.S. base in Europe? I think almost certainly not.
I think at best in the short term, it would lead to the closure of some less critical bases.
I don't think the U.S. just accepts a closure of Ramstein, Stuttgart, Aviano or Rota.

I'm quite sure the "abolish the police" crowd is. They're not exactly displeased with what ICE is facing.

I was thinking of their human rights violations inside Russia, but that too.

It's hard to predict what Stephen Miller would actually do to retaliate. After all, he is the one behind it, not the orange gullible idiot.

Don’t make it sound like I supported J6 or random violence on the police.

i certainly think if we are going to have a 2A as a defense against tyranny, then we’re awfully close to where we might need to use it. I don’t consider ICE to be cops — they’re untrained goons who probably have no understanding of the most basic law enforcement principles.

Not to mention a lot of military families live off-post. Their lives could be very uncomfortable at a minimum, and in danger at the worst.

I would argue a US invasion of Greenland puts Canada in an even difficult position than the EU.

We'd arguably have more to lose than even Denmark does.

We have the longest undefended border in the world, with a country who suddenly becomes a global pariah and the number 1 threat to ALL our other allies.

    Huh?

  11. Join the EU, and you have allies.

  12. I wonder if Iceland, after the Greenland issue and the funny:rolleyes: remark of the would be American ambassador, regrets it did pull out in 2015 from becoming EU member.

  13. It would be funnier if you used a fat maga clown instead of a barby doll, which is a bit(?) misogynic.

This was directly from a Mattel advertising campaign and they were properly roasted for it.

It's not that simple. We are literally neighbors with the US.

We would be so vulnerable if the US went that rogue.

Luckily, I do believe if Trump invaded Greenland, he would be impeached, and convicted this time.

But then we'd have Vance o_O

The misogyny is from Mattel, who made a talking Barbie that said something like that:

  18. Of course I've no idea about american adds, but I think it's inaproppriate to repeat them, especially in this context.

Some reports saying Greenland's price could be $700b.

IMO, they should also troll him back:

"Greenlanders will negotiate with the United States! It is CONTINGENT on the IMMEDIATE and Complete RESIGNATION of Donald Trump as President of the United States IMMEDIATELY IMMEDIATELY IMMEDIATELY! THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!"

  25. What will/can he do? An ayatolla on Europeans?

Bibi/Israel is caught between the hammer and the envil.
Backing the USA for sure is going to do massive damage, but the loss of the USA military reach is going to be a huge problem too.
