The worst thing about it is that they are no longer in control of their destiny re: the Super Semifinal. They have to hope Boston collapses and that they break the roadkill streak against the regular season champs.

So for those who witnessed these last 3 games, please tell me, as an outsider, just what the frak has gone wrong? Were they spooked by the refs in the 2 games before this week? Goalkeeping by committee? What, exactly?

I think you're seeing a major case of dead legs, and I think other teams have gotten smarter about defending them. Let's hope that the bye this weekend lets them re-energize for the final game and the playoffs. And don't forget that they had TWO goals disallowed for offside against the Breakers; it's a game of inches and luck, at times, and they've had a bit of a bad run on both accounts. As you'll recall, last year's winner didn't exactly have a lot of momentum going into the playoffs--they needed other teams' help to even get into the mix. No need to panic, it seems like a pretty resilient group.

They also had two goals disallowed against Sky Blue as well. But at least with Washington's loss tonight we at least are guaranteed to host a home playoff game, but most likely not the one we wanted.

True dat; sorry for being a gloomy Gus, everyone. Now let's hope FCGP holds up their end (leading Boston 2-0 w/15min left in the game) and next Sunday's game means something after all. :)

The less said about last night's howler, the better. A week and change to prepare, and that's what we got? In the end, the Independence peaked too early. Added to being outscored 9-2 in the now 4-game losing streak has revealed bad goaltending, a porous defense, a non-existant offense, UEFA's insistence on taking away our internationals for world cup qualifying at the worst possible times...and people STILL think Riley is a coach of the year candidate? Before August 22, he was. Not since, though.

A better way to say this is:

WPS's insistence on scheduling games on FIFA dates.

Both MLS and WPS schedule on FIFA dates. The other major leagues do not. Teams are required to release players on FIFA dates. If you don't like it, then do not sign players likely to play for national teams.

As an aside, how is it that Sanderson's goal was listed as unassisted? It was pretty clear that Lindsey should have an assist. And my dismal fantasy points would be all the better for it!

Bad luck with reffs for 2 of the games... not having the full team available and just not being able to get enough play from the midfield to control the game

The Midfield is the strength of the team and teams have been clogging it up and our Midfield is not playing strong enough. too many sloppy passes that were very concise a few games ago.
